In a tragic incident in West Philadelphia, a husband and wife were ambushed and shot to death as they returned home from work at a local bar early this morning. The details are chilling – the shooter, or shooters, fired 18 shots point-blank. Bullet shells were discovered just inches from the victims’ bodies, some even beneath them, suggesting the calculated nature of the attack.
Authorities believe the attack was not a robbery gone awry but a premeditated murder, given that valuables such as cell phones and a purse were left untouched at the scene. |

Last week, the Delaware General Assembly adjourned. The anti-gun legislature passed two bills to expand gun free zones. Legislation to impose a Maryland-style “handgun qualified purchase card” and a handgun transfer registry passed the Senate but was stopped in the House. A Constitutional Carry bill was also heard in the Senate but was never released from committee. Below is a list of gun control bills that passed, and extreme anti-gun legislation on which NRA-ILA worked to defeat with pro-Second Amendment lawmakers, grassroots activists, and our state affiliate, the Delaware State Sportsmen’s Association. |

The first half of the ordinance is rather simple: all firearms in a person’s home must be safely secured by a locking device. Any failure to do so leaves the gun owner at risk of liability in a court of law for any potential injuries caused by the unsecured firearm or firearms. However the ordinance does not apply to instances of self-defense. This section was hardly discussed by the village board at its July 5 meeting, as all members were supportive. |

“Bruen valued colonial laws to the extent that they informed the original understanding of the Second Amendment,” argues the brief. “In over 150 years of colonial history, few laws restricted firearms use by intoxicated persons. None restricted firearms use by people who were sober at the time, but otherwise used intoxicants.”
“While the Founders were concerned about the excessive use of intoxicants, they never addressed that concern by eliminating someone’s Second Amendment rights based solely on their use of an intoxicant,” said FPCAF’s Director of Constitutional Studies, Joseph Greenlee. “922(g)(3) therefore goes too far, and under Bruen, it should be held unconstitutional.” |

He claimed the weapons surrender order violates his Fourth and Fifth Amendment rights against unreasonable searches and seizures and self-incrimination, since turning in his weapons would mean admitting he had firearms that he wasn’t legally allowed to have under the no-contact order, which made it a felony offense for him to possess firearms.
The Washington Court of Appeals agreed with Flannery, dropping the weapons surrender order in a November 2022 decision.
Since then, the Flannery case has spawned uncertainty over a law meant to protect domestic violence survivors from gun violence in Washington, a state with some of the strongest firearm regulations in the country. |

"It's been a trend throughout the country right now and we believe at this point, again this could change, this was a jugging incident," said Chief William McManus.
San Antonio Police says, jugging robberies are on the rise in our community. That's when a victim is staked out before thieves find the perfect, isolated place to strike to commit their crime.
"Individual was withdrawing money from the ATM, two suspects approach him, they try to rob him, he shoots at them," said Chief McManus. |

Where a defendant indicted for being a felon in possession of a firearm argued the statute upon which the indictment was based was unconstitutional following New York State Rifle & Pistol Ass’n v. Bruen, 142 S. Ct. 2111 (2022), his motion to dismiss the indictment was denied. This court and dozens of courts around the nation have considered the constitutionality of 18 U.S.C. § 922(g)(1) in the wake of Bruen, and none have found the statute facially unconstitutional. |

The National Rifle Association of America (“NRA”) on July 3 announced it had filed a lawsuit against the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (“ATF”), the U.S. Department of Justice (“DOJ”), ATF Director Steven Dettelbach, and U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland (“Defendants”) in opposition to the unlawful “pistol brace rule.”
“The NRA has ramped up its offense on this arbitrary and unconstitutional rule,” says NRA Executive Vice President & CEO Wayne LaPierre. “We are confident in our ability to confront the ATF and DOJ – and preserve freedom for NRA members.” |

At first glance, the Biofire Smart Gun is different from other firearms. The large handgun looks part Halo, part Cyberpunk in design.
It’s an appropriate look since the gun is made with new technology ripped straight from science fiction. It’s unlocked biometrically, meaning it can only be activated with an authorized user’s fingerprint or face. That, in turn, means only authorized users can shoot it.
Kai Kloepfer is the CEO of the Broomfield-based company Biofire. He said making a gun like this was impossible until very recently. |

One year ago, President Biden signed the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act into law, marking the first major gun legislation in nearly three decades. The law introduced enhanced background checks for gun buyers under 21, closed the "boyfriend loophole" to prevent convicted domestic abusers from purchasing firearms for five years and allocated $15 billion in funding for issues like school security and mental health.
Sens. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), Thom Tillis (R-N.C.), John Cornyn (R-Texas), and Kyrsten Sinema (I-Ariz.) played key roles in negotiations that led to the bill's passage. They were spurred to consensus after shootings last year in Buffalo, New York, and Uvalde, Texas, left a total of 31 people dead. |

With dozens of cases filed challenging New York’s reprehensible “Concealed Carry Improvement Act” (CCIA), that the Democrat Party controlled legislature passed on July 1, 2022 and that Governor Kathy Hochul signed into law the same day, coming on the heels of the U.S. Supreme Court’s Bruen decision, published just one week earlier, on June 23, 2022, one obscure case is worth mentioning. It is Goldstein vs. Hochul, 2023 U.S. Dist. LEXIS 111124 (S.D.N.Y, June 23, 2023). |

Marshall’s public defender found a problem with the law, and it could have broad implications for Louisville. Simply, state law appears to give only state lawmakers the power to create crimes punishable by jail time. Not Metro Louisville.
“These are all somewhat overlapping, and it’s confusing about what power metro government has,” Butler said. “This is a very smart motion that was made.”
The County Attorney’s Office prosecuting the case disagreed in court, but did not convince Judge Anne Haynie to overturn her ruling saying Metro’s firearms discharge ordinance is unconstitutional. |

President Joe Biden appears more determined than ever to make gun manufacturers vulnerable to frivolous lawsuits in the hopes of bankrupting the firearms industry, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms said today.
On July 4—a day when the president should be leading the nation in celebrating its 247th anniversary—Biden was instead capitalizing on violent crimes over the holiday weekend in an effort to push his gun prohibition agenda. |
