A federal lawsuit filed recently in Massachusetts reflects a growing frustration among gun owners as far away as the Pacific Northwest, where law enforcement agencies have “suspended” the application process for concealed pistol licenses.
The Massachusetts lawsuit was filed by the Gun Owners Action League (GOAL) on behalf of Thayer Eastman against the City of Lowell for “failure to process firearms licenses in a timely fashion.” The case also has similarities to a federal complaint filed days ago in Illinois by the Second Amendment Foundation and Illinois State Rifle Association.

This February, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg reached the halfway mark of an unprecedented Supreme Court term, staring down what would be a momentous spring.
Behind closed doors, the justices had already cast preliminary votes on disputes concerning immigration, LGBTQ rights and the Second Amendment and they had voted to add even more blockbuster cases to an already bursting docket on issues related to abortion, Obamacare and President Donald Trump's tax returns.
Unbeknownst to the public, however, Ginsburg was battling another front. On the cusp of her 87th birthday, routine health scans in February revealed a recurrence of cancer with new lesions on her liver. |

The plan includes:
Criminalizing private firearm transfers Disrupting interstate commerce by criminalizing online firearm and ammunition sales Instituting endless “delay” windows for background checks Banning the manufacture and sale of modern sporting rifles Banning the manufacture and sale of standard magazines Enacting licensing schemes to exercise Second Amendment rights Enacting ex parte “red flag” laws to seize guns without legal recourse Mandating home storage requirements under penalty of law Repealing the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act to subject the industry to frivolous lawsuits |

The Falls Church City Council Monday voted unanimously to advance a new gun control ordinance that bans the carrying of weapons on City-owned or operated properties despite a heavy outpouring of written citizen comments opposing the step.
Legislation passed by the Democratic-controlled Richmond state legislature earlier this year and signed into law by Gov. Ralph Northam allowed local jurisdictions for the first time in over 30 years to fashion their own restrictions on guns, and Falls Church has followed Alexandria and Arlington to push for the same restrictions that the City has lobbied for over decades. |

While Missouri is home to the Castle Doctrine and Stand Your Ground Law, nothing of the sort exists on the federal level. In order to protect Second Amendment rights of Americans across the country, I am a proud cosponsor of fellow Missourian Congressman Jason Smith's bill, the American Family and Private Property Defense Act. This legislation would prevent an American citizen from being prosecuted for the use of force against an intruder as long as that force was used to protect themselves, another individual or private property. I am hopeful we will be able to get this bill passed to ensure Second Amendment rights nationwide are safeguarded. |

While some in the Hispanic community in the US have said they purchased firearms in recent months, there are still generally mixed feelings about gun ownership and gun control.
About 30% of Americans said they own a gun, according to a 2017 survey from the Pew Research Center. About 36% of White and 24% of Black adults said they own a gun, the survey found, compared to 15% Latinos.
And not everyone in the Hispanic community is a gun enthusiast — some support stricter or new gun control laws. |

In the first part of this series, I wrote about the history of silencer criminalization, about how a simple safety device, relatively easy to make at home, was made into contraband. Contraband where mere possession can result in some of the heaviest criminal penalties in the federal sentencing guidelines.
Silencers are easier to make today, than at any previous time in history. |
