In 2005, Colt committed the unspeakable by discontinuing its iconic Python. For many, the decision portended the end of an era — indeed, the company’s next chapter would be dictated by CPAs and MBAs, the chasing of government contracts, and almost total indifference to the civilian market. For 15 years, shooters lamented the Python’s loss. |

If you enjoy big game hunting or shooting at the range, you may fire cartridges with nickel cases or pick up a few off the ground. This often leads shooters to a few questions that need to be answered:
Why is some ammo nickel-plated?
What is the difference between a nickel-plated brass and a brass casing? |

New security equipment to crack down on firearms entering Michigan Capitol grounds will be installed in early August, with the system fully expected to be online shortly after the Labor Day holiday.
The move comes following a unanimous decision by the Michigan State Capitol Commission in February to ban guns entering Capitol grounds except in specific instances.
Commission Executive Director Rob Blackshaw told commissioners July 31 once the system is purchased on Aug. 8, training for the likes of the Michigan State Police and Capitol staff – along with House and Senate sergeants-at-arms – is scheduled for Aug. 10.

By the late 19th century, Colt had entered the growing trend toward double-action revolvers with two guns that nonetheless mimicked the general configuration and sidegate-loading system of the company’s Single Action Army—the Model 1877 Lightning and the larger-framed Model 1878. But the company more fully embraced the modern double-action-revolver concept with its swing-out cylinder designs of the 1889 New Model Navy and the 1892 New Army and Navy (which featured mechanical and nomenclature upgrades through 1903). |

The United States Supreme Court ruling striking down New York State’s concealed carry permit rules as unconstitutional was big news in June of 2022, but indications are that officials in the Big Apple are still trying to decide how to best pretend it never happened. In that decision, New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen, the Supreme Court invalidated the State’s demanding “proper cause” requirement for carry licenses and its discretionary “may issue” licensing standard. Between the fees, paperwork and other requirements, getting a license was already a notoriously difficult and time-consuming process, with an uncertain result. |

James Bond author Ian Fleming wrote, “Once is happenstance. Twice is coincidence. Three times is enemy action.” It could be time for New Zealand gun owners to start getting suspicious. On July 26, the New Zealand Herald reported that the country’s new Firearms Safety Authority had compromised the personal information of more than 100 gun owners. The paper explained,
In an email sent shortly after noon on Wednesday, seen by the Herald, Auckland Central Police District firearms staff emailed more than 100 gun owners to warn them their listed firearms licence address may not be up to date. |

Developed around an earlier Russian design, the Yugoslavian-made M57 pistol chambered in 7.62x25mm Tokarev was a unique product of the Cold War. That’s what first drew me to the gun, that cool history factor. But the more I dug into it, the more I discovered there is a heated passion for and debate around the 7.62x25mm cartridge, too. That made the gun even more fascinating to me. Some folks brag about its flat-flying characteristics and elevate it to the realm of “armor piercing” while others scoff at the idea. |

Even for the individual who is a complete novice to any sort of self-defense or tactical training, the understanding that proximity relates directly to danger is rather innate. The closer the threatening entity, the more dangerous it is to you. A bear at the top of a hill should certainly have your undivided attention, but we would all agree that it is better to spot it at the top of the hill than to have it stand up from the brush right in front of us. To harm us, most creatures with claws and teeth need to be at contact distance, and many can close that distance very quickly. There is a similar dynamic when facing a human threat as well.

In the United States District Court for the Southern District of Illinois, on November 25, 2022, Larry Morse and Theodore Ray Buck, Jr. filed a lawsuit against the state of Illinois, claiming the state ban on the sale and possession of silencers violates the Second Amendment.
