... "The guy swallowed it hook, line and sinker, didn’t he? Even after being told the setup was a fake, this media 'professional,' who immerses himself for a living in the stuff that dreams are made of, accepted without question that the rest of the illusion must be real—because, after all, it was a public service announcement. Besides, who’s ever known an advertising agency to stretch the truth?"

"California already bans the manufacture and sale of such magazines, but 'it’s not against the law to possess large-capacity magazines in most of the state.' And true to form, now that they’ve imposed their edict in L.A., the antis are looking to expand it nationwide. That was a major talking point at a rally outside City Hall featuring citizen disarmament advocates and publicity-seeking politicians behind the 'We Don’t Trust You with Essentially the Same Technology Used in Pez Dispensers Act.'" ...

"Gun rights advocates like to point out that the hysteria over 'assault rifles' is misplaced. AR-style modern sporting rifles are a lot less likely to be used in a crime than handguns, as statistics reveal. The New York Times (no less) reports that 'In 2012, only 322 people were murdered with any kind of rifle, F.B.I. data shows.' The numbers don’t reveal the percentage of MSRs in that total, but you can bet it’s pretty low. Besides, what difference does it make? Traditional hunting rifles are just as deadly as 'assault rifles', as this story [via burlingtonfreepress.com] reveals . . ." ...

"Northwest Second Amendment activists are preparing for what appears to be the certain passage on Monday by the Seattle City Council of two gun control ordinances, despite a 33-year-old state law prohibiting such laws, as social media is burning up with discussions and disagreements over who won last night’s debate by Republican presidential candidates ..."

"Hunting in Africa is big business. The African countries depend on hunters, willing to pay extravagant tag fees to the government and spend many thousands of dollars in the local economy, to fund their conservation efforts that preserve and protect these beautiful animals from poachers and extinction. Earlier this week Delta, United, and American Airlines all announced that they will no longer allow the shipment of hunting trophies on their flights. While the reaction from Americans was one of support, the African governments who actually understand the situation are saying that this PR stunt might be single-handedly responsible for eliminating any remaining conservation efforts for these animals." ...

"In the wake of high-profile mass shootings in South Carolina, Tennessee, and Louisiana, some of the calls for more 'gun control' are coming from a perhaps surprising direction. The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), the firearm industry's trade association, is calling for revisions to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) that would deny more people the most effective means of defending life and liberty. What's more, they are proudly boasting of having done so in the past, and lamenting the fact that 'gun control' groups won't give them any credit for their own 'gun control' efforts." ...

"Immediately following the news that there was an attack in a movie theater in Antioch, Tennessee, CNN’s anchors consistently started the segment by intoning that, 'We’ve seen this time and again.' The implication was that shootings in theaters are becoming commonplace and they bemoaned the fact that nothing has been done to prevent such tragedies. The obvious conclusion: CNN’s anchors wanted to see more gun control legislation. Since that hasn’t happened they are blaming every attack on the evil NRA and gun owners. There’s just one problem: the gun used in this particular incident was fake . . ." ...

"Every so often, something comes out of the firearms industry that forces you to stop and think, 'Why has it taken them so long to fill this gap?' I’ve had the privilege to say that I’ve had my hands on one of those firearms during the course of the last few weeks and every time I show it to a new gun enthusiast, they agree with that sentiment. I’m talking about the Olympic Arms MPR308-15M. But, before you roll your eyes at the photos and pass this along as 'just another AR' review, read on because as far as I can tell, there isn’t anything else like this on the market. You’re looking at a rifle capable of firing two totally different calibers . . ." ...

"Front Site is right: the average number of attackers in a gunfight is two. And handgun rounds aren’t the super-deadly one-shot killing machines you see on TV; shooting someone with a pistol – any pistol – is no guarantee that they’re going to stop attacking you or other innocent life. The key takeaway here: don’t stop scanning for threats after you discharge your firearm in self-defense. But it’s not as easy to train yourself to do that as Front Site would have you believe. ... "Gun lobbyists and their allies say the answer is for more law-abiding Americans to carry guns in colleges, or shopping malls, or churches ... Mike Huckabee, a Republican presidential candidate, suggested more armed worshippers would have meant fewer deaths in Charleston. Like Mrs Stevenson, others have already reached that conclusion: Chuck Chadwick, of the Texas-based National Organisation for Church Security and Safety Management, says demand for its programme, which includes firearms instruction, is rising, partly because of fear of Islamic State."

"Terror and mental illness are similar issues in Japan, Europe, Canada, and the United States, but annual deaths due to guns in the other countries are only 30, 150 and 200 respectively versus over 10,000 in the United States. It is Americans' access to guns that makes the huge difference in gun deaths, not the existence of terrorists or the mentally ill." ...

... "But let’s say I’ve misjudged the pro-life movement. ... Let’s pretend abortion clinics haven’t been under constant 'pro-life' terrorist attacks or threats. Ignore all the bombings and harassment, and forget that Dr. George Tiller wasn’t shot in the head while attending church. Let’s just take them at their word — that they really believe every life is sacred and they really care about children."

"Then I welcome pro-lifers to join the anti-gun movement. There’s not as much raucous slut-shaming — but there are a lot of actual children dying. Pro-lifers can be more than just pro-birth. If it really is a moral conviction that life is sacred, then get out of women’s birth canals and grow up." ...

"On Wednesday evening, July 29th, three-year-old Dalis Cox of Washington, D.C. died in emergency surgery, of a gunshot wound. The 'assailant' was her seven-year-old brother, who was playing with a loaded gun. Dalis is one of 48 children who have died so far this year from unintentional shootings. In a typical year, over 100 children die this way, and over three-thousand children and teens are shot unintentionally."

"Once again, our two U.S. senators have braved the glare of the TV lights in order to stir us to action, and this time their topic is gun control. While Connecticut law requires that a background check be completed before a store can hand over a gun, in most states the FBI has only 72 hours to complete the check; otherwise, you get the gun anyway."

"That’s what happened with Dylann Roof, who allegedly shot all those people dead in Charleston. He was able to get his gun after 72 hours, even though the background check — which he would have flunked — was still in the works. According to the senators, this 'default to proceed' loophole has led to the delivery of 15,729 firearms to 'prohibited people' in the past five years." ...

"I am pro-gun, pro-constitution and anti-violence. I despise that innocent men, women, and children are losing their lives to this kind of mass gun violence ... I despise that our inner cities are riddled with minority on minority gun crime. I despise that our second amendment rights are are justly being questioned, as most civilized folk are desperate to stop the cycle of gun crimes." ...

"I totally agree that everyone who wants a gun should have one. I do not agree that anyone who owns a gun should use it to shoot someone. Every crime involving the use of a gun, from robbery — without even firing a shot — all the way to murder, should be labeled a hate crime and the perp should receive a mandatory no-parole life sentence. If we are so enraptured by the wording of the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution — in the same way, perhaps, ISIS is committed to the strict, narrow-minded interpretation of the Koran — let's stick to the strict wording of the Second Amendment and force the creation a well-regulated militia." ...

I quote: 'A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.' "All too often we see governments implementing more and more restrictive gun control laws in an effort to 'reduce gun violence.' As we’ve been saying here at TTAG for years, that strategy has the opposite result — allowing criminals to run rampant and unchecked, preying on now defenseless citizens, all while the government demands further restrictions on civil liberties to solve a problem that citizens can solve themselves given enough firepower. Panama has finally gotten the message. In an effort to combat their astronomically high murder rate the South American country’s decided to start relaxing their restrictive gun laws and enabling their citizens’ natural right to armed self-defense . . ." ...
