"Rising dairy and oil prices grab the attention of shoppers and motorists. But the increasing price of ammunition – a consumer product the government considers when calculating the rate of inflation – has largely gone unnoticed."

"Before I launch into the substance of this book, I must admit two things. One, I get a little squeamish about the idea of owning a gun ... And two, Philadelphia-based photographer/author Kyle Cassidy is a friend of a friend, and so I had heard tales of the book-to-be long before it officially emerged. However, my choice to write about Armed America has nothing to do with cronyism or any ideological stance; instead it is based on my complete absorption in the book each time I pick it up. I find myself peering into every corner of the richly detailed portraits, laughing at absurd scenes and out-of-control pets, marveling at the diversity of human self-expression and questioning my own perceptions of guns and gun ownership." ... |

"A few Ventura County cities have recently passed, or are considering passing, ordinances requiring gun owners to report the loss or theft of their firearms, typically within 48 hours of when the owner knew or 'should have known' the gun was missing. Gun-control advocacy groups ... disingenuously claim the law will prevent unlawful sales of firearms by purchasers who buy a gun legally, intending to resell it illegally on the black market. These 'straw' purchasers often falsely claim that a crime gun traced back to them was stolen or lost." ...

"Gov. M. Jodi Rell recently signed legislation that requires owners of lost and stolen firearms to report stolen or missing weapons. ... the law imposes stricter penalties for gun owners who fail to do so."

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
A strong body makes the mind strong. As to the species of exercises, I advise the gun. While this gives moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprise, and independence to the mind. Games played with the ball and others of that nature, are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun therefore be the constant companion of your walks. — Thomas Jefferson, Encyclopedia of T. Jefferson, 318, Foley, Ed., reissued 1967. |
