"Talk show hosts are in a better position to live with the very same realities their listeners live with. Liberal hosts not only do not live with the realities of their listeners, but they also do not have to live with the consequences of their leftist policies. As one primary for instance, many liberal lawmakers are armed one way or another by carrying a loaded sidearm or hiring armed guards, and last year, California lawmakers had asked for latitude in concealed carry permits for themselves. Lawmakers have made California a second amendment hostile state while asking to be armed themselves. ..." ...

"Concealed Weapons. On Monday, days after reports of a possible gunman at Virginia Tech shook the campus and revived fears of the 2007 attack, an organization that promotes the right of licensed gun owners to carry concealed firearms on college campuses brought together a number of speakers for a discussion on the issues of gun control and Second Amendment rights. The discussion was part of the second national conference of the group Students for Concealed Carry on Campus, which was held at the National Press Club and supported by the Second Amendment Foundation. ..." ...

"Imagine a newspaper story on automobiles in which the writer confused camshafts and driveshafts. Or a piece on investing in which the words 'stock' and 'bond' were used interchangeably. Or one that referred to Marines as soldiers (which will get you a punch in the mouth from any self-respecting Jarhead). Not likely, you think. No reporter is that ignorant or that careless. Wrong. They are when they turn their attention to guns. Cartridge and bullet are used interchangeably, clip and magazine mean the same thing; submachine gun and machine gun are synonyms. And it gets worse." ...

"By the time you read this, I’ll have gotten back from the two-day Executive Protection Seminar hosted by Bob Duggan, the legendary founder and leader of Executive Security International in Colorado. I didn’t count, but Bob told me there were about a hundred attendees. I couldn’t help but notice that some major firms were there, actively recruiting new security professionals. The market for them is booming, both here and overseas, the worldwide economic slump notwithstanding." ...

"In Top Shot season three's opening salvo, we learned that Survivor survivor and series host Colby's hands have been surgically attached to his hips. And there's someone on planet earth thinner than Colby. Who was eliminated. I mention all this because it's funny. In other news, the competition began with TTAG commentator's Joe Matafome's pride and joy: the Smith & Wesson 500. With Germanic pride (i.e. over-capitalization) Smith's website calls the five-shot revolver 'A Hunting Handgun For Any Game Animal Walking.' Running? That too. Did you know that S&W designed the 500 cartridge before the new-for-2003 X-frame wheelgun that holds it? The can was invented before the can opener too. As for the 500's shootability . . ." ...

"In the world of budget bolt action rifles, there are a few names that immediately spring to mind: Mossberg, Savage, Marlin, and even Remington. You immediately think of hunting stands at dawn and target practice out on the farm. But the name Weatherby typically evokes images of a finer experience, perhaps well dressed gentlemen hunting on the open plains with brandy snifters sitting on the dashboard. There was a time I thought a Weatherby was too fine an instrument for my mediocre shooting abilities. And then I realized that I could own one of their rifles for less than $100 more than I spent on that Mossberg 100 ATR." ...

... "Walking around with a gun for all to see is not on the level of what the Westboro wingnuts do, of course, but there's something unsettling about the practice. People who feel the need to advertise their guns seem overly paranoid, and they make other people nervous."

"That's probably part of the point. The subliminal (maybe even overt) message is: Don't mess with me." ...
-------

Submitter's Note: Swing and a miss! The message I try to convey when I open carry is See? Permit holders are just regular folks doing regular things. We aren't urban thugs, or camo-clad rednecks, we're middle-aged, overweight white guys who hold doors for ladies and help people get items off the top shelf in the grocery store. So YDR, please stop projecting your insecurities and neuroses onto law-abiding open-carriers.

"In a split second, he found himself firing the weapon at a masked stranger who rushed up behind Tanner with what looked like a gun."

Federal carry law would be bad for gun rights and Constitution

"Across the river in Illinois, the argument is being made that the carrying of defensive firearms should be regulated at the federal level. Says Tim West, writing for the Naperville Sun-Times:"
"What it seems to me to be the best solution would be a federal concealed carry law that would apply to all the states."

"That way, someone who travels from one state to another with a legal firearm wouldn’t have to worry that he or she might be breaking the law in some state to which they may travel, even though they are in compliance with the law in their own state." ...
-------

Submitter's Note: On the other hand, a Federal law requiring states to abide by Article IV, Section 1 of the Constitution regarding carry permits would avoid the pitfalls of a federal 'may issue' law.

If British shopkeepers had the right to bear arms, vicious thugs would think twice before looting

"During the Los Angeles riots in 1992, many store owners in the south central part of the city defended their property against marauding gangs with their own weapons, and succeeded in protecting their livelihoods and thousands of jobs that depended on them. And across the country, Americans admired their bravery, thankful for the Second Amendment to the US Constitution ... In contrast in London in 2011, shopkeepers were left at the mercy of feral, brutal thugs acting with impunity across whole swathes of the capital as the police were overwhelmed. If they had the right to bear arms and defend their stores with force, it would have been a very different story, and brutal looters would have met firm resistance." ...

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
Thanks to the government’s past record, it is unfortunately very predictable that, in spite of the severe penalties mandated, tens of thousands of people will not comply at all (with Bill C-68). A new class of criminal will be created among harmless citizens whose previous lawbreaking may have resulted in nothing more than parking tickets. — Lee Morrison, Canadian Mounted Police
