"The 2008 Democratic Party's draft platform confirms that the party still 'doesn't get it' about Second Amendment gun rights versus the Utopian fantasy that gun control laws will somehow make neighborhoods safer, the [CCRKBA] said today."

"'While promising to preserve our Second Amendment rights,' said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb, 'the party platform demonizes semiautomatic sport utility rifles and wants them banned, calls for anti-gun show legislation and proposes so-called 'common-sense' gun laws. Many Democrats believe bans on most guns are 'common sense' ... Boiled down, all it really means is that the Democrats are still the party of gun control no matter how they try to re-package the rhetoric, and they know it.'" ...

"... For years gun-grabbers like the Brady Center have claimed that they aren't after your hunting guns. As the old saying goes 'Actions speak louder than words'. Not content to go after deer hunters rifles by calling them intermediate sniper rifles, now they have targeted your grandaddy's bird gun."

"On Sunday July 27, 2008 a disturbed man ... entered the Tennessee Valley Unitarian Church in Knoxville Tennessee firing three shots resulting in two deaths, wounding seven others before being tackled and held until the police arrived. The murder used an upland hunting gun, a Remington Model 48 semi-automatic shotgun. This is what has the Brady Center trembling with fear and outrage, the dreaded semi-automatic 'assault weapon.'" ...

Second Amendment is teeth of liberty

"The Supreme Court recently struck down a gun ban (D.C. v. Heller) and affirmed the Second Amendment of the Constitution is an individual right. While this seems gun-rights friendly, the opinion contains serious flaws. The opinion is self-contradictory by first acknowledging a pre-existing right and later claiming it is the Second Amendment that confers a right to gun ownership. This claim is at odds with the clear intent of the founding fathers and leaves the door open for untold infringements to a citizen's right to self-defense."

"The knife violence in Britain has reached epidemic proportions according to an article at Dailymail.co.uk, an online news agency in England." ...

"Americans recognize the sensational headlines and use of the term epidemic to describe the actions of common criminals because of articles by the U.S. media that use the same format but vilify guns instead of knives. The nature of this type of news reporting makes it obvious they are used to sway public opinion against guns, or knives or the use of self-defense by the average citizen."

"When Britain outlawed guns (and self-defense), their elected officials claimed that the impending domestic tranquility would make them the envy of the world." ...

"The new Taurus PT709 Slim 9mm semiauto pistol represents a significant departure from Taurus' existing pistol platform designs, embodying a unique combination of tried-and-true traditional compact-auto operating features with several 21st century innovations."

"It is an ultra-compact, recoil-operated, polymer-frame, striker-fired single-action with a manual safety, slide lock and excellent handling characteristics. At only 19 ounces, it may not be the smallest medium-caliber auto pistol Taurus has ever produced, but it is the slimmest, and it is designed specifically as a concealed-carry gun." ...

"A man who was sleeping inside the home shot and killed one intruder and at first deputies said they were looking for only one other suspect. Now that investigators have had a chance to interview neighbors in the area, one eye-witness tells deputies she saw a man exit and run from the home and she says she saw a woman driving a car, presumably a get away car."

"'The bear was staring at me,' Evan Pala of Boca Raton said ... 'Then he just stood up (on his hind legs) and jumped on me. Before he even got me I called, 'Bear!'"

"The bear mauled Evan ... grabbing the boy with his mouth and tossing him about like a rag doll ..."

FULL TEXT BELOW:

Beginning this fall, it's legal to hunt deer in Madison County with a rifle.

The law was signed late last week by Gov. David Patterson. The legislation, co-sponsored by two Democrat state lawmakers -- Assemblyman William Magee and state Sen. David Valesky -- allows rifle hunting in Madison County on a one-year, trial basis.

Magee and Valesky both said last month in interviews that they carried the bill at the request of the Affiliated Conservation Clubs of Madison County. In the Central New York area, hunting deer with a rifle is allowed in Oswego and Oneida counties.

It is not allowed in the more populated Onondaga, Cortland, Cayuga and Tompkins counties.

GeorgiaCarry.Org has written Kip Hawley, head of the TSA, asking him to reject the City of Atlanta’s request to amend its airport security plan to include a ban on guns throughout the airport property. A copy of the letter may be viewed here.

GCO reminds the TSA that many airports around the country operate with daily legal carrying of firearms, and there are virtually no incidents resulting. The current federal delineation of where weapons are disallowed (from the screening process forward) is adequate, clear, and universally understood.

FULL TEXT BELOW:

A new ordinance taking effect Saturday in Philadelphia is intended to crack down on irresponsible gun owners.

Citizens who fail to report a lost or stolen firearm within 24 hours can now be fined up to $1,900.

Repeat offenders will face another steep fine or 90 days in jail.

The strict penalties are part of the Lost or Stolen Firearm Ordinance, one of the three surviving pieces of gun legislation that Mayor Michael Nutter signed into law in April.

A judge blocked two more aggressive laws Nutter signed that would have instituted a one-gun-per-month limit and an assault-weapons ban.

"Gun owners in Baltimore whose firearms are stolen would be required to report the theft to police under legislation approved by the City Council yesterday - despite questions about whether the proposal is legal."

"In a June memo on the bill, the law department recommended the City Council hold off on advancing the measure until the Maryland attorney general issues an opinion on the bill - but that opinion is not finished." ...
