George Mason University student and former active duty Marine Andrew Dysart stands on the George Mason campus with an empty holster in Fairfax, Va., Thursday, Aug. 9, 2007. In the wake of the Virginia Tech shootings, Dysart is advocating the right of students with concealed handgun permits to carry guns on campus for protection, a practice which is currently forbidden at George Mason. |

We still debate about whether cheap handguns -- the only purpose of which is to help people kill each other -- should be manufactured and sold, as if the Framers of the Constitution meant the Second Amendment to assist gang warfare in city streets. Hey, Mr. Charlton Heston, want to talk about cold dead hands now? Three pairs of them in a Newark school yard the other night. |

The criminals are going to get the guns no matter what gun laws you pass, but if the criminal gets caught with a gun in Delaware this new law changes everything.
There will no longer be people walking around with felonies in double digits.
It's the criminal not the gun, although I would like to see tougher gun laws. Go to Delaware.gov and look at this bill. We are the first state to pass such legislation. |

That’s what David Greenberg, the owner of the new gun store in the San Jose District of Bisbee, tells customers who come through the door.
The Second Amendment Family GunShop on Highway 92 has seen a steady stream of customers since opening July 3, after months of renovations to meet strict standards of security required by the Department of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF). |

"As a society we have our values absolutely backwards on this issue. We value our right to bear arms more than we value our children," said Mr Duncan.
He has seen how other Western societies try to control firearms, having lived for four years in Melbourne and Hobart as a professional basketballer.
"While our schools have never been safer, we have had this horrific loss of life of children outside school, in the afternoons and over the weekends. I had a 13-year-old girl last year getting ready for school in her living room and someone going by shot an AK47 through the window and killed her. This is not a Chicago issue. This is a national issue." |

When Tes asked Lane to leave, the customer became angry and refused, Tes told police.
Concerned for the safety of his daughter, Tes grabbed a sword he had in the store. Tes told police he didn't intend to use the sword against Lane but wanted to "get the point across." |

WHENEVER WE POSE a Poll Center question about gun rights, the comments pour in. Today's question — "Should college students who have permits be allowed to carry guns on campus?" — is no different.
In the wake of this year's shooting rampage at Virginia Tech, some are asking whether having expanded rights to carry weapons would have prevented the tragedy. Virginia law currently dictates that individual colleges and universities are the ones that decide whether students can carry concealed weapons on campus. As the Associated Press recently reported, there's a new push to prevent colleges and universities from prohibiting students from arming themselves. |

Congressman Ron Paul's bill, HR1897, will allow law-abiding gun owners to be able to carry a handgun for self-defense in a national park. The U.S. Constitution is very clear that the federal government (including bureaucrats and politicians) has no authority to deprive Americans of the right to keep and bear arms, even in national parks. |

Residents of Omaha Housing Authority properties will not be allowed to have guns - even if they own them legally - in their homes under a new policy due to take effect in October. The state's largest provider of public housing adopted the new rule in June. It followed the passage of a separate rule in April that prohibits anyone other than sanctioned OHA employees or police officers from carrying concealed weapons in shared spaces such as lobbies and elevators or OHA offices. Executive Director Stan Timm said the rules are "one more tool in trying to be ahead of and prevent crime." |

Would you be justified in doing so?

For as long as I can remember, our Second Amendment right to own firearms has been under relentless attack. Opponents say having guns creates added dangers, that they hurt more than they help. But what these liberal do-gooders never seem to care about are the innocent families taken hostage and murdered inside their very own homes. Or the women who are attacked while walking back to their cars late at night. Or even men in their early 60s for whom life was going just fine until one day their wife decided that she wanted a divorce. ------ Submitter's comment: Black humor. |

The men who founded our nation understood that government was necessary to preserve the people's freedoms. But they also knew that government agents could not always be trusted to use their authority justly, and that government remains the single greatest threat to the rights and liberties of the people.
... If the average person today wonders about his relationship to his government, the Second Amendment provides ample guidance. It represents the ideal of American political and social life: the individual, self-governing, self-motivated, self-respecting, dignified, free citizen — who takes these virtues so seriously that he will maintain the personal power to back them up.

[Glock] informed [Turkey] that the pistols [obtained by terrorists] were consigned originally to " 'US Mission Iraq' [formerly the Coalition Provisional Authority], address: Republican Presidential Compound, Ministry of the Interior, Baghdad, Iraq."
At least three U.S. government agencies are now investigating the massive "disappearance" and diversion of weapons Washington intended for Iraqi government forces that instead have spread to militants and organized gangs across the region.
At retail prices in the United States, a Glock 19 costs about $500. On the black market in Turkey, it can fetch up to $3,500.
