"What is it about resisting Health Care Reform?"

"That's easy. It is a matter of consistency in preserving our sovereign independence from our servants and facing them down at every turn they try to take it away. It is about their following our instructions instead of following their own peccadilloes and hang-ups."

"Governance in America is by the people, with officials as servants of ours. In this, they don't get an opinion in how far left or right they can go, they go only so far as we permit them or instruct them. They do not allow us things, we allow them things. With me so far?"

"This is at the heart of the resistance to so-called Reform. ..." ...

"My son-in-law thought the liberals were making some kind of joke."

"Someone ... sent him a story ... The topic? Someone at a New Hampshire rally President Barack Obama attended to promote health care legislation was carrying a handgun."

"... There was speculation about who the guy was, why he had the gun and the potential harm he might do to the president — especially this historic president, and especially now that folks all riled up and volatile about the health care issue."

"The commentators didn't say as much, but the implication was clear: Dangerous, right-wing, gun-toting folks are out there and they're so upset about Obama's push for health care legislation that some of them might want to do him harm. ..." ...

"America has been, and always will be, a gun culture. From sportsmen, to collectors, to the average citizen guns have become a staple of what it means to be an American. When amending the Constitution for the first time, our country's Framers listed the right to own firearms as 'Second only to the Constitution in importance'- George Washington. The extended writings of our Founding Fathers illustrated the necessity of individual citizens to protect their property and life from, not only the government, but the actions of evil men. Inherent in liberty is right to take whatever actions necessary to protect one's right to life. ..." ...

Gun-rights groups see opportunity in hard month

"On the surface, it looks like it's been a bad month for gun-rights groups. First, the Senate narrowly defeated an attempt to allow Americans with concealed-weapons permits to carry their firearms across state lines."

"Then Second Amendment advocacy organizations pressed senators to oppose Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor, only to see more than a dozen gun-rights backers support President Barack Obama's choice. Despite the setbacks, however, there's little gloom among gun-rights advocates."

"And the reason is simple: These tough battles are helping them separate politicians who are merely strong supporters of gun rights and those who are 100 percent allies." ...

"During both Chris Matthews's hysterical interview and the nearly-hysterical guy interviewing Ron Paul, the discussion kept returning to this point: How could this guy show up to a rally with the President, carrying a gun, and not realize that his gun could be used for dangerous things? That’s a good question, and might even be valid except for one other fact. There are always lots, and lots, and lots of guys carrying guns at every rally where President Barack shows up. ..." ...

"'Concealed carry' denotes wearing a hidden (concealed) handgun in public."

Spike in gun sales could be driven by fear

"The manufacturing and sales of firearms has been a booming business since November 2008 when Barack Obama was elected president."

"Based on the numbers of people rushing out to buy guns and rifles, one might think Obama had his sights set on some major piece of gun control legislation."

"But that’s not the case. ..." ...

"Then there's another type of fear that seems to lead to increased gun sales. This one borders on delusional and is rooted in paranoia. It goes like this: the economy will unravel, creating a mass of angry unemployed people who will revolt against the government, creating violent unrest and lawlessness that underfunded law enforcement agencies won't be able to control. ..." ...
-------

Submitter's Note: A beautiful example of a straw man argument. A "revolt against the government" is not necessary for "a mass of angry unemployed people" to committ crimes. In tough economic times crime rates do rise, and cash-strapped cities are cutting back on police services.

FULL TEXT BELOW:

Though I'm not sure if you want to call it smart. A lot of people are talking about William Kostric, a protester who was photographed wearing a 9mm gun while he protested down the street from the president's health-care forum in New Hampshire. He was also carrying a sign saying, "It is time to water the tree of liberty." (He doesn't specifically say with blood, though you've got to wonder.)

Some people got upset, but the local police say there's no law against carrying a gun out in the open in New Hampshire. His gun was licensed. And the property owner -- a church -- was OK with him being there.

"'I've got three questions I want answered,' Boynton said. 'Why were we targeted? What were they looking for? And who were they after?'"

"I don't know if that last sentence even stirs our fine folks to debate what the framers of the Constitution intended."

"What will a gun range mean to Edmond? Will we suddenly have a flood of pistol-packing mommas and lines out the door for concealed carry licenses?"

"I don't have any idea, which is why I'm asking for your thoughts." ...

"The reason for the confusion rests mainly in the nature of a budget bill. ..." ...
