Opinions vary about the utility of ported barrels and slides, especially on 9-mm guns—not exactly a behemoth chambering—and especially on a personal defense pistol. But after shooting a standard, non-ported Shield side-by-side with the ported Performance Center model—as well as many other subcompact pistols—American Rifleman's Joe Kurtenbach is convinced there is merit to the arrangement. In such a small, lightweight gun, any feature that helps get the barrel and sights back on target quickly could be a life-saving advantage. |

An Everett pawn shop was hit early Saturday by burglars after firearms. An inventory was ongoing, but it appeared as many as 20 handguns and one rifle were taken, Everett police Sgt. Maryjane Hacker said. An officer on patrol heard an alarm just after 3 a.m. at Pawn Fathers, 6417 Evergreen Way. He saw the front door was smashed in just as the alarm company notified 911, Hacker said. |

Intruders beware: An increasing number of teachers and staff are armed in Ohio schools. Facing the specter of having to respond to school shootings like those at Madison Junior-Senior High School in Butler County and West Liberty-Salem High School in Champaign County, more administrators and school boards are making the decision to put guns in reach of — or concealed on the bodies of — their employees. |

If you fancy a bit of a wrangle among handgunners, we have a surefire mechanism: What is the best handgun to start with? Our art makes no bones about a candidate we think is first rate. Scion of a famous house—the same that John Moses Browning built—it has much to recommend it beyond pure pedigree. Here’s our case … |

The basic premise of the opinion was that only those who pass New Mexico’s concealed-carry training are safe to carry concealed here. If this were true, then those states with less onerous training than New Mexico would have higher rates of problems with their permit holders. We do not see any evidence of this. In fact, research by the Crime Prevention Research Center shows that concealed-carry licensees commit misdemeanors or felonies at a rate of only one-tenth that of law enforcement and commit firearms violations at a rate of only one-seventh that of law enforcement. |

Award-winning journalist John Stossel published a report this week that provides a timely reminder that – nearly a decade after the Supreme Court’s landmark ruling in District of Columbia v. Heller – law abiding gun owners are still routinely persecuted and punished for exercising their rights. Stossel’s report profiled harmless travelers caught up in New York City’s draconian approach to gun control, which treats as contraband handguns and magazines that are perfectly lawful under federal law and the laws of the overwhelming majority of states. |

Seattle's worthy effort to fund gun-violence research with gun taxes will continue, since its legality was affirmed Thursday by the state Supreme Court. This is a small but important step to offset the unconscionable dearth of federally funded research into the effects and prevention of gun violence. Still, there are lingering questions about the city’s approach. |

You can name the stereotypical liberal voting blocks with your eyes closed. For socialists in the US, losing women and minorities as a reliable voting block would be like California leaving the union.
You can’t be a small government conservative or libertarian if you’re one of the wholly owned left wing voting groups. Or can you?
Here are individuals who’ve broken the mold, and there are more of them every day. The Socialists are acting like jilted lovers. |
