However, the three most important facts about mass shootings are (A) they have historically been incredibly rare, with entire years passing without one sometimes; (B) they are contagious, with high-profile incidents inpiring copycats and competitors; and (C) they are incredibly variable in the number of fatalities, from a low bound of wherever the researcher chooses to set it (the study Biden cites uses four, not including the perpetrator) all the way up to 58 at Las Vegas. Trying to detect a pattern in data like this, and then attributing the pattern to a single law change that covered the entire country for a ten-year period, is madness. |

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel joined 12 other Attorneys General Tuesday in urging the Supreme Court to uphold a U.S. Court of Appeals ruling which held that states and localities can impose certain types of firearm regulations when they are substantially related to an important government objective, such as the protection of their residents.
“I am proud to join with my colleagues to preserve the right for state and local governments to implement common-sense gun safety regulations,” said Nessel.
In 2013, the New York State Rifle & Pistol Association and three individual residents of New York City filed a suit challenging the then-existing New York City regulation in the Southern District of New York (SDNY). |

Once again, as a result of multiple copycat shootings generated by press coverage, the battle is on to suspend various provisions of the Bill of Rights. At their core, “Red Flag Laws” would allow an angry relative to suspend a gun owner's Second, Fourth, Fifth, and Fourteenth Amendment rights. It would be as easy as a phone call to a judge alleging that the gun owner was “dangerous.” |

A Sonoma County man who says he was committed to a psychiatric ward years ago at 18 is suing the federal government and California over his prohibition from owning guns. With the recent mass shootings that have taken place, questions have been raised about tougher background checks in obtaining guns. Currently, the procedure to obtain a gun is divided into two categories. A long gun such as a rifle, AK-47, shotgun, etc. and a short gun such as a handgun which can be either semi-automatic or automatic. For long guns, local sheriff offices do not get involved in background checks according to Worth County Sheriff Dan Fank.

The National Shooting Sports Foundation® chose to remain respectful of the victims and their families in the El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio, communities in the week following the senseless and horrific murders there. We did so because we believe it is right and proper. Both communities deserve time and space to mourn, to pray and to try to find comfort.

Ever notice that some people will do just about anything for attention? Even if it means asking the most asinine of questions in a public way… like this joker, who posed this question in a Cincinnati Enquirer article: “Should Walmart, Kroger and other retailers ban carrying guns in stores?” The answer is obvious: Only if they wish to endanger their customers. It seems that a grieving widow has filed what I believe to be a frivolous lawsuit against Kroger, “claiming it didn’t do enough to prevent [her husband’s] murder.” |

Police equipment was inside a pickup truck taken by a carjacker early Tuesday morning at a BP gas station on Fort Street near Clark Avenue in Southwest Detroit.
Investigators said the driver went into the gas station and when he came out, a gunman approached him and took his keys. The gunman then left in the victim’s truck.
The gunman was also with someone in a silver van. Police are looking for that person, too.
Police body armor and a gun were inside the vehicle, but this was not a police vehicle that was stolen.

While universal background checks are pushed as a response to the El Paso and Dayton shooting attacks, it should be remembered that such checks are unenforceable without a gun registry. In other words, once such checks are in place, it is only a matter of time before lawmakers — in one party or the other — suggest a loose registration scheme. They will most likely do this in the days after the first mass public attack that occurs once universal background checks are the law of the land. |

An “assault weapon” and large-capacity ammunition magazine ban won’t reduce the number or severity of mass shootings, any more than banning alcohol reduced alcohol-related fatalities. There are tens of millions of “assault rifles” and large-capacity magazines in private hands. For reasons many do not understand or accept, millions of owners won’t surrender them. A federal ban did not and will not eliminate “assault rifles” or decrease their number in any meaningful way. |

An Oklahoma lawmaker is trying to gather enough signatures to put the new constitutional carry law, which is expected to take effect in November, on hold. The bill referred to as constitutional carry goes into effect on November 1st, allowing Oklahoma residents to own firearms without a permit or any type of training. But Representative Jason Lowe of Oklahoma City is taking steps to prevent that from happening by collecting signatures to suspend the law. |
