Four hundred residents of Portsmouth, Newington, New Castle and Rye, angered by what they saw as an unfair system of taxation, had decided to take action.
The petitioners in Rye and Newington contend that they have, indeed, tried “all other means of redress” — appealing the tax through the state courts — and that those efforts proved “ineffectual” when the Supreme Court in May overturned a lower court ruling that found the tax unconstitutional. |

PRESIDENT Robert Mugabe heaped more pressure on embattled white Zimbabweans yesterday by forcing women and children to flee his advancing mobs.
An anonymous British woman was among those flown out after listening to reports of invaders closing in on her homestead. "It reminded me of pictures of Jews leaving Germany or the people leaving Kosovo," she said. "Suddenly the order came, 'All women and children out'. The men were to be left behind." |

Three Clinton Township (NJ) police officers have been charged with falsifying records about their whereabouts while on duty. Data from GPS contradicted their reports.
This week Mayor Tom Borkowski had asked for an investigation of the police department, out of concern that the residents' safety was being jeopardized by internal friction.
Police Chief Stephen Clancy began an investigation in May following complaints from residents and other personnel about inappropriate police conduct. |

"Being against gun control in Britain is slightly less tenable than teaching that the earth is flat. Everyone, apart from a couple of extremists (in the best possible sense) centred on groups such as the Libertarian Alliance, is for gun control that would be regarded as authoritarian by the most liberal Democrat in America. ... To give some idea of the extremist position in Britain, here are a few examples from the recent debate on guns:"... |

"It seems that we still have some anti-gun types in the world who just don't get the picture yet. Not only is it the right of every free person to bear arms, it is a must for continued freedom from oppression and crime." --Sheriff Mike Cook, SierraTimes.com |

"It has long been my belief that a person's character can be well defined by what they fear ... I have sought to understand what tyrants fear. Certainly, a clear understanding of that fear is found in Senate Resolution 505 ... the Military Sniper Weapon Regulation Act of 2001." --Mike Gaddy, SierraTimes.com

Hoplophobic Grand Rapids Press columnist John Douglas still doesn't get it. Douglas wrote a couple of recent columns in which he had hissy fits about Michigan's concealed handgun program. He seems to believe, as many anti-freedom individuals do, that a firearm has magical powers to turn an otherwise mentally stable person into a killer. He doesn't trust himself, and he certainly doesn't trust any of us to be responsible, law-abiding gun owners.

It would be poetic justice if all the hysteria about "assault weapons" actually boosted sales of the very models identified as especially evil by the anti-gun lobby. And other interesting information that the gun grabbers leave out of news stories.... |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
America does not go abroad in search of monsters to destroy. She is the well-wisher to the freedom and independence of all. She well knows that by one enlisting under other banners than her own, were they even the banners of foreign independence, she would involve herself beyond the power of extrication in all the wars of interest and intrigue, of individual avarice, envy and ambition, which assume the colors and usurp the standards of freedom. — JOHN QUINCY ADAMS (1821) |
