... "The key point being ducked is that the phrase 'in common use at the time' was in reference to the militia component of the Second Amendment, and referred to the expectation that citizen soldiers would muster bearing arms suitable to confront and prevail against professional military forces. Nothing with the passage of time has changed that, except through the deliberate indifference of the government in discharging its duties ensuring that which was once commonly understood as 'being necessary to the security of a free State.'” ... |

"For some reason, I'm reminded of the Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal, an alien predator described in 'The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy' as 'a mind-bogglingly stupid animal, it assumes that if you can't see it, it can't see you – daft as a brush, but very, very ravenous.' Maybe if you're armed and run into Professor Weinstein or one of his dine and dash artists, you can keep them from spooking by closing your eyes." ... |

"In the never-ending 9mm Ammo Quest for the best pocket pistol load, TTAG published my test of CorBon DPX 115-grain, and it was really an excellent performer. But it also triggered quite a few requests, all along the lines of 'when are you going to test the 95-grain version?' Now, normally I prefer heavier bullets over lighter rounds, all other things being equal, but testing from the short-barrel pocket pistols has forced me to re-evaluate that default position . . ." ... |

"ShootingSight isn’t quite the brand name that Timney and Geissele are. As such, all of the positive reviews of its TAV-D TAVOR trigger pack — like mine from a couple weeks ago — are great, but there have still been quite a few questions about durability and reliability in adverse conditions. I figured I’d throw mine into the freezer for a couple days, then shoot it cold, shoot it soaked, and shoot it full of mud to see how it would hold up. Results above." ... |

"I was on a mission of mercy. A close friend needed a lady friend and her goods to be transported cross country. I found myself hauling a good-sized trailer on I-40, looking for a gas station with easy in and out. I stopped at Meteor Crater rest stop to give everyone a break. As I came out of the facility, I asked a gentleman who was uniformed as staff where the next truck stop was. He graciously told me that there was one at exit 255, about 20 miles further east. Then he said, 'You are not supposed to have that here,' indicating the GLOCK on my hip . . ." ... |

"No. No we do not have to scare the hell out of everyone in Aurora by allowing people to bait police when they flaunt loaded shotguns, rifles, assault weapons, pistols and Saturday night specials on streets all over town."
"Two weeks ago, an 18-year-old man was stopped by police after motorists called dispatchers to report that he was walking along ... with a shotgun strapped to his back. The teenager was part of a growing 'open carry' movement where activists carry all kinds of loaded firearms to all kinds of public places, because they can. ... The incidents have become so prevalent that police associations are devising protocols for approaching people who shamelessly try to get attention by carrying loaded guns for no good reason." ... |

Yet, one must wonder why New Jersey courts think owning a gun is worse than beating your wife ..." ... |

"August 13th 2014 , two NRA-backed bills, Senate Bill 977 and Senate Bill 979, received action in the Michigan Senate."
"... Introduced by state Senator John Moolenaar (R-36), SB 977 seeks to provide active duty military personnel who are on duty orders outside of the state with the option to renew their Concealed Pistol License (CPL) through the mail. Under current Michigan law, individuals who are seeking to renew their CPL are required to submit the renewal application in person. As a result, many resident active duty military CPL holders who are stationed outside of Michigan are effectively prohibited from renewing their license in a manner that allows them to maintain continuity of their concealed carry benefits." ... |

"What is your opinion on gun rights?"
"I’m for Second Amendment rights because I’m for the Constitution. I believe the Constitution is paramount and if you violate one right you will violate all of them. Human history records that the government has killed more of their citizens than citizen on citizen crime. We have a brief world history view with a free government. However, history teaches us that citizens should be weary of their government protecting their life. I support the responsible gun ownership of all Americans, of which most people are." ... |

"In the wake of the police killing of unarmed, 18-year-old Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri (a suburb of St. Louis), outraged protestors suspect that Brown's capital 'crime' was 'walking while black.' Meanwhile, the tactics used to suppress the protests have been more appropriate for an occupying army than for 'peace officers' with the mission to 'protect and serve' their communities. From establishing a 'no-fly zone' over Ferguson, to journalists tear gassed and arrested, to deploying snipers and armored fighting vehicles, U.S. troops in Afghanistan could hardly ask for looser rules of engagement than the 'public servants' of Ferguson are enjoying." ... |
