America’s schools, shopping centers, places of worship and concert halls have become killing fields. Nowhere else on Earth has a nominally functional democratic government have such regularly mass murders. The reason is quite simple: Federal elected officials, including members of the Alaska delegation, embrace the terroristic agenda of the National Rifle Association, which bears no resemblance to the goals of its sportsmen members. Clearly, our historical rights to hunt are not related to American terrorists’ ability to procure weapons of mass destruction.

I am a responsible gun owner, as are the vast majority of gun owners. However, as demonstrated recently in Gilroy, El Paso and Dayton, some of our fellow citizens should not have access to weapons. It is time for three actions to stop the slaughter of innocent people.
First, stop the sale of all military-style automatic weapons like AK-47s and AR-15s, as well as high-capacity magazines. These items are designed to efficiently kill people during war and have no other legitimate use.
Second, we must have consistent and extensive background checks and waiting periods for the purchase of all guns in all states.

Five Chicago teens are being charged with murder after a 14-year-old who was with them during an attempted burglary was shot by the homeowner.
The group traveled in a stolen Lexus to an Illinois home where they were confronted by the 75-year-old homeowner, according to the Lake County Illinois Sheriff's Office. The man went out to investigate and told authorities he believed someone was trying to steal his car, a 2011 Audi.
All five of the teens, ages 16 to 18, were charged with first degree murder "due to them being in commission of a forcible felony, when the 14-year-old victim was shot and subsequently died ...,"
Submitter's note: A life of crime stopped by an armed citizen. |

Anti-gun hysteria is sweeping the progressive left, the media and letters to the editor.
On Gene Valicenti’s radio talk show Governor Raimondo claimed military-style weapons are used in all mass shootings. Fact: FBI statistics show that since 1998 handguns have been used in 56 percent of mass shootings. Shotguns have been used in others meaning far less than half of mass shootings involve “assault rifles.” |

Florida Carry has filed another class-action lawsuit today against the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) for its ongoing violations of Florida's firearms background check and preemption laws. In May we sued FDLE for illegally putting background checks into an indefinite “Decision Pending” status. That litigation is ongoing. The new lawsuit was filed on behalf of all holders of Concealed Weapons or Firearms Licenses (CWFL) and Law Enforcement Officers who have purchased a firearm in the past four years. |

Most now understand that red flag laws violate the Second Amendment of the Bill of Rights, and many Republicans, including the president, now seem willing to join Democrats — after the recent shootings in El Paso and Dayton by crazed left- and right-wing extremists — in putting dents in the Second Amendment, hoping that these laws “might” somehow help. But few realize that they also virtually eviscerate the Bill of Rights. What follows are the constitutional amendments red flag laws damage and how. |

I am an ethics professor, and I carry a concealed handgun in the classroom. In the event of a mass shooting, I am the first line of defense between my students and an attacker. I refuse to let myself and my students be victims.
I’m sure many of my fellow professors would disagree with my actions. In fact, many would probably brand me as a traitor to academia for admitting such a thing. For them, it is inconceivable that a member of the intelligentsia — an ethics professor, of all people — could support the right to carry a so-called instrument of death. |

A gun rights group sued Thursday to block California from enforcing its assault weapons ban, contending it violates the 2nd Amendment right to bear arms.
The lawsuit was the latest among gun advocacy and lobbying groups to challenge California’s firearms laws, which are among the strictest in the country, and comes after a recent series of deadly mass shootings nationwide involving military-style rifles.
The lawsuit was filed in the same San Diego federal court district where a judge in April tossed out a nearly two-decade-old California ban on sales and purchases of ammunition magazines holding more than 10 bullets. |

Another week means another spate of new gun control policy proposals from the camps of the Democratic Presidential Candidates. But are they telling the whole story?
As the Democratic candidates try to out-socialism one another, they are also trying to out-gun-control one another. What they aren’t telling us is that their policy proposals won’t make us any safer, no matter how nice they might sound.
To be clear, we all want deaths using firearms —or using any other method— to go down. But it’s important to implement solutions that have been demonstrated to be helpful. It’s not enough for a proposal to feel right or to sound good; it must actually work. |

Freshman Rep. Dan Crenshaw, R-Texas, sparked an intense and emotional reaction following the mass shootings in Dayton, Ohio, and El Paso, Texas, when he encouraged a discussion about measures to prevent gun violence. On Twitter, Crenshaw wrote, “These disgusting mass shootings have been following a pattern ever since Columbine. Sick and lonely men have decided this is how they will vent their frustration.…The solutions aren’t obvious, even if we pretend they are. But we must try. Let’s start with the TAPS Act. Maybe also implement state ‘red flag’ laws, or gun violence restraining orders. Stop them before they can hurt someone.”
Ed.: Crenshaw revealed as a gun grabber. |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
And what country can preserve its liberties, if its rulers are not warned from time to time that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms....The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants. — Thomas Jefferson in a letter to William S. Smith in 1787. Taken from Jefferson, On Democracy p. 20, S. Padover ed., 1939 |
