"'Everyone here wants guns - it's a basic freedom, a basic right,' said Pat Rawlings, a soft-spoken middle aged mother of two, waiting for a hairdresser appointment in this quaint leafy Civil War town. A surprising pseduo-editorial written by (gasp!) a reporter from the New York Times. While she clearly offers the gun owners' perspective, it's also pretty obvious, in parts of the article, that she's not exactly itching to cozy up to a pro-gun stance. |

... "The state Senator from Chicago said he supports the 2nd Amendment rights of hunters and sportsmen to have guns. However, he supports renewal of the assault weapons ban that expires this year. He said the gun control issue needs to be reasonable for the entire state, and in the Chicago area, cheap handguns and other weapons create problems."...
Poster's Note: 1) The 2nd Amendment to the Constitution does not mention hunting or sportshooting. 2) "Reasonable gun control" is an oxymoron. 3) I wasn't aware that an inexpensive firearm (or any "other weapon" for that matter) was any more capable of "creating problems" than a crowbar or baseball bat. 4) Chicago already has some very stringent "reasonable" gun laws. Perhaps this is about as close to a retraction as we could hope for?

An affidavit says Weich made the man drive with him to a motel in Murrells Inlet and that Weich showed his badge to the desk clerk to get information about the woman.
An affidavit says on Sunday, Weich went to a Garden City home where the woman was sleeping, broke into the house, woke her up, forced her to the floor and kicked her repeatedly.
Weich has been with the department for six months.
