Sonya Baker says she recently bought a 9mm handgun because she feels "women are a target."
"Some people think because we're women, we can't defend ourselves," the 40-year-old Warren resident said. "I wanted a gun because sometimes I'm out by myself and I want to feel safe."
Baker is among the millions of Americans who have purchased guns for the first time over the past two years. Sales of firearms and ammunition have been so frenzied since 2020 there's been a protracted ammo shortage, sending citizens and police officials in Michigan scrambling to find rounds.

There’s a good reason why action shooters in Minor caliber divisions love the 9 mm round. The 125 Minor Power Factor allows light recoiling loads. Handloaders can launch a 124-grain bullet at 1,050 f.p.s. to provide a comfortable 130 PF. A 147-grain bullet at 880 f.p.s. makes 129 PF with softer, less snappy recoil than the 124-grain slugs. Unfortunately, those shooting factory loads miss out. Factory 9 mm loads have higher velocities and PFs will be in the 135 to 145 range. That’s more recoil than needed, and doesn’t aid match performance. |

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) filed the criminal examination of the Rare Breed FRT-15 trigger in District Court today. The Rare Breed FRT-15 is a forced reset trigger. The shooter must pull the trigger with each shot. Because of this, the company claims a firearm with the FRT-15 trigger is still a semiautomatic firearm. The drop-in trigger forces the trigger to be reset. The force reset dramatically speeds up the rate of fire of a gun. Rare Breed claims its trigger is similar to the 3MRC TAC Con trigger, which has an ATF approval letter. Still, the company does not have an approval letter for the FRT-15 from the ATF’s Firearms and Ammunition Technology Division (FATD). |

A stunning new Rasmussen survey released Tuesday shows a whopping 70 percent of likely voters agree that crime is “out of control” and an overwhelming 90 percent “are concerned about the recent increase in violent crime, including 64% who are Very Concerned.”
The survey results amount to an indictment of approaches to the crime problem promoted lately by the far left, including no-bail jail releases. According to Rasmussen, 73 percent of voters “say letting accused violent criminals out of jail without bail while they wait for trial increases violent crime.” Only 14 percent disagree and 13 percent are not sure. Poll participants said the elimination of cash bail requirements “is among the policies voters blame most for the problem.”
