Cheney vote based on facts by Dave Kopel

"The gun control spin machine and its media assistants are in full blather over Dick Cheney's votes against banning cop-killer bullets and plastic guns, which could slip through metal detectors."

"Unfortunately, the are no detectors to alert television viewers when spinmeisters haven't the slightest idea of what they're talking about. In fact, Cheney's votes showed that he won't let himself be stampeded by lobbyists or expediency; the votes therefore underscore his moral fitness..."

Four days after Anchorage Mayor George Wuerch announced a plan to enable citizens to buy machine guns and other highly regulated weapons, the mayor altered his plan, saying he didn't realize it included hand grenades.

"I thought it was patently evident we were only talking about firearms," Wuerch said Friday.
--------

I find the ignorance of the locals about machine gun ownership to be quite amusing...

Great article for a typically VERY anti-gun paper...

PRINCETON JUNCTION, N.J. (AP) Second Amendment debate was set aside on Saturday as about 100 women, some invoking the name of famed shooter Annie Oakley, took to a private firing range here."

"Experienced and novice shooters alike gathered for the Women's Day at the Range to practice what has long been a male-dominated sport."

Have you ever wondered where they get the questions asked at the presidential debates?

This is not a news article per se, but the web page will give you the opportunity to tell the Commission on Presidential Debates what questions YOU think should be asked.

My favorite question?
For Mr. Gore:

Q: When the 2nd Amendment was drafted, how was the term "militia" defined?
Followup: What does the phrase, "The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed" mean to you?

"The man who was shot after a woman's home was broken into on Thursday has a lengthy arrest record and was due in court Friday on an attempted murder charge..."

"The burglars apparently did not know anyone was home and were surprised to find an armed woman on the second floor. The woman opened fire, wounding one man, police said. The other burglar escaped."

The world's first armed robot security guard that can open fire on intruders while controlled through the Internet was unveiled in Bangkok yesterday.

(Apparently robots have the right to keep and bear arms in Taiwan, even though private citizens do not. So much for Asimov's first law of robotics!)

From a Democrat:

"To be sure, I have pointed disagreements with my national party on a number of issues - support of tobacco farmers, the protection of life and the Second Amendment - that, in my view, violate fundamental freedoms and the proud culture of our state. These are basic differences of conscience and while I have never raised them with an uncivil voice, I will remain steadfast in my support."

Still therefore supports GORE..

This is pretty good stuff...

"Lawmakers should back a plan to extend Youth Hunting Day."

"..."the concern of those who oppose Youth Hunting Day as a manifestation of a gun-crazed culture is misplaced. Fathers and mothers who hunt with their children are far more likely to pass on the right values and habits regarding the use of guns than the wrong ones."

"Orono is only the second municipality in Maine to join the program, sponsored by the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Portland signed on earlier this summer."

Communities that join the coalition agree "to support using as a criterion in our firearms purchasing a consideration of whether companies have agreed ... to adhere to a new code of responsible conduct."

"JC's Gun and Tackle in Decatur ran the classified ad earlier this week, but the next day The Decatur Daily pulled the top line."

Decatur Police Capt. Ken Collier said he was shocked by the ad.

'It seems inappropriate for a gun dealer to have a 'back to school' sale, considering the violence that has occurred in schools across the country,' he said.

"Back to school sale" is not protected speech under the first amendment? PC-ness is ugly.
