"Federal prosecutors in Maine can continue to use gun laws to combat domestic violence, the U.S. Court of Appeals has ruled." [emphasis added]

"U.S. Circuit Judge Sandra Lynch, sitting in Boston, ruled that John Frechette of Lewiston can be charged with the federal crime ... even though his 1996 misdemeanor assault conviction came after he pleaded no contest in a 'mass arraignment' in Lewiston District Court."

"In 2005, U.S. District Court Judge D. Brock Hornby in Portland had dismissed the indictment against Frechette, saying that his no-contest plea ... did not qualify as a 'knowing and intelligent' waiver of his rights under Maine law. ..." ...
-------

KABA Note: Observe that, despite the inflammatory opening paragraph, Mr. Frechette is not charged with a 'domestic violence' crime, but merely a mala prohibitum 'possession' charge.

"Closing in on a zig-zagging pattern was Dave Harrington. His awestruck students watched in the background."

"Hunched behind his AR-15 assault rifle, Harrington unleashed a steady fusillade of fire at Ruskin's Gun Craft Pistol and Rifle Club."

"When his rifle ran dry, he let it hang from his body and smoothly drew his 1911 pistol. Now big .45-caliber holes ventilated the target. He kept moving and firing, using different angles of approach and retreat."

"Harrington turned to his students and said: 'Your direction of travel is based on your object of focus.'" ...

"It should be no surprise that Nikon Sport Optics is one of the most technologically advanced optics providers in the shooting sports marketplace. After all, what else should you expect from an established world-leader in precision lens manufacture and camera design? In recent years Nikon has moved quickly to translate that expertise into reasonably priced optics product lines specifically designed for U.S. shooters and hunters that feature a level of quality that rivals the best of elite European name brands. I've been particularly impressed with Nikon's current emphasis on products that serve multiple functions, which provide customers with a versatility and cost-effectiveness most other optics makers have not yet matched." ...

The bar owner is not expected to face charges since his actions were considered to be self-defense.

"Many papers have recently done stories noting the success of the concealed carry licensing system. The Lorain Morning Journal, on the other hand, has published another editorial crying about their limited access to license holder's personal information." ...

"From the story:"

"This cloud of secrecy is supposed to be for the protection of the permit holders and their families, according to concealed carry supporters. Though why anyone would want to mess with a known armed householder is beyond us. It also leaves us wondering why anyone would want to have a concealed gun permit if it apparently puts them in so much danger that they need their identity shrouded." ...

"Tracking the recent history of the Second Amendment debate wouldn’t be complete without a look at the shifting tactics of the opposition. Our tireless efforts and resulting victories at the ballot box have made it clear that openly campaigning against the Second Amendment is a political loser. The anti-gun groups have undertaken a concerted effort to mask their long-term agenda ... It surprised no one when Handgun Control, Inc., decided to change its name to the decidedly vague 'Brady Campaign.' But the effort to paint the anti-gun agenda with the comfortable warmth of 'gun safety' rhetoric moved from tactical to strategic with the formation of Americans for Gun Safety (AGS) in July 2000. ..." ...

"In short, the long-recognized 'Castle Doctrine' theory was codified, written into the state's law books as a legally recognized defense."

"But South Carolina lawmakers also extended the doctrine to apply in places other than someone's home." ...

"It seems some Pennsylvania legislators would like a return to the Wild, Wild West style of living."

"Labeled as a 'stand your ground law,' it would simply empower the possessor of a 'legally' concealed handgun to instantaneously become the judge, jury and executioner of anyone that they feel is threatening or endangering to them.
