“This ordinance would apply just to open carry and not to individuals who have a (concealed pistol license),” Marriner said. A total of 15,919 Whatcom County residents had a concealed pistol license from the state Department of Licensing in 2021, according to data released to The Bellingham Herald under a public records request. Officials at the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office were approving about 2,400 such permits annually, and Bellingham Police were issuing slightly fewer than 100 licenses a year, according to Herald reporting in 2021.

The California legislature is slated to hear a number of high-profile bills before the session ends in five weeks. Among those are a proposal to tax guns and ammunition, a ban on chemicals in food products including Skittles and other popular candies, and legislation to curb light pollution.
All three bills were heard in the Senate Appropriations Committee on Monday and placed in a suspense file, where the appropriations committees will review the fiscal impact of bills before going to the full floor. |

New Jersey, in July of 2022, enacted new statutory law that allows the attorney general to sue gun manufacturers for being a “public nuisance” if they have “endangered the safety and health of New Jersey residents through the sale, manufacture, distribution, and marketing of lethal, but nonetheless legal, gun-related products,” according to the law. The state was then sued by the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) in November of 2022 in a “pre-enforcement action,” to stop them from bringing a suit under the law, which was on Thursday dismissed for a lack of ripeness — meaning that it hasn’t matured to the point where a genuine dispute exists — according to the court’s ruling dismissing the suit. |

The episode reinforces two critically important lessons that any pro-gun legislator should remember. One: there is no such thing as harmless gun control. Two: Moderates who join forces with anti-gun extremists will eventually be embarrassed by the partnership.
The BSCA was passed last summer over the NRA’s objections, with proponents congratulating themselves on their “bi-partisan” achievement. |

There is no deliberation of the Supreme Court, the Congress of any nation, united or otherwise, nor action of an executive hand that can diminish the human rights granted by God upon his people. At the core of this legislation is the protection of life, and by such, our liberties. |

The increasing number of firearms in Hoosier homes may have something to do with Indiana’s rising suicide rate.
In Indiana, suicide is the leading cause of firearm deaths.
Suicide is the second leading cause of death for Hoosiers between the ages of 10 and 34 years.
It is well known that in the U.S., there are more guns than people and the number of guns is growing. |

The Protect Illinois Communities Act bans the possession and sale of assault weapons and requires assault weapons people already own to be registered.
Illinois State Police, ISP, said registration forms will be available by October for people to register guns that were deemed as assault weapons by the state and that they owned before the law was passed. |

But telling shootists what to do is not Louisiana's approach; we prefer, as the paper puts it, to “incentivize people to buy gun safety devices.” Under Landry's bill, gun owners who buy such devices qualify for a tax credit of $500, with a total annual cap of $500,000. The program expires in 2027. If it doesn't do much good, at least it won't cost much. |

Literally nothing Kyle Rittenhouse does escapes notice. All of the usual suspects do literally everything they can to paint anything he’s involved in as somehow dark, nefarious, and deeply, deeply concerning. An easy tipoff is the apparent self-imposed minimum quota editors place on the use of terms like “far right” in any article they publish about him.
The latest spate of news of note is that Rittenhouse has founded a new gun rights org here in Texas. The left-leaning Texas Tribune made sure to use all of the requisite tropes in their report. |

In April, Gov. Bill Lee announced that he’d be calling the special session to push lawmakers to pass an extreme risk protection order. It would allow individuals to report to law enforcement if they believed a person was a threat to themselves or others, ultimately dispossessing them of any firearms.
Mostly every Republican, including House Speaker Cameron Sexton, R-Cookeville, was against that idea back in April — and still are. |

On August 3, 2023, Judge Janet Bond Arterton of the United States District Court for the District of Connecticut ruled on whether the recent Connecticut law banning the possession of common semi-automatic rifles and pistols under the appellation of “assault weapons” and of standard capacity magazines which hold more than ten rounds.
Judge Arterton ruled the law is not prohibited by the Second Amendment. She does not see it as an infringement because, she claims, “assault weapons” and magazines over ten rounds are not arms protected by the Second Amendment. |

The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms has filed an amicus brief with the Third Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals in a case challenging New Jersey’s “sensitive places” concealed carry statute. The case is known as Koons v. Platkin.
In May, U.S. District Judge Renee Marie Bumb granted a preliminary injunction and the state filed a motion to stay the order pending appeal. At that time, the Second Amendment Foundation—CCRKBA’s sister organization—filed a response to the state’s motion for a stay. |
