I don't want to debate concealed carry but rather educate others on this controversial topic. Having taken hunter's safety and an eight-hour concealed carry course, I can tell you that hunter's safety is not sufficient training.
Anyone planning to get a concealed carry permit, answer this question. What are the four elements that all must be present before you can use deadly force? Don't know the answer? Get professional training. |

Officer Anthony Magsam was in a world of trouble. It was August 2009, police sources said, and the young cop with high-ranking relatives in the Police Department had just tearfully confessed to stealing parts from two automatic weapons from the department's Firearms Identification Unit.

With a figurative gun to its head — the threat of a $100,000 civil fine — Auburndale city commissioners on Monday agreed to repeal a local law against discharging a firearm inside the city except in self-defense.
But don't go out firing into the air to celebrate. Discharging firearms in public still violates state law, said Deputy Police Chief Chris Nelson. |

Do handguns belong in South Florida’s parks and recreation centers and city halls?
They do according to the Florida Legislature.
Under a new law that takes effect Oct. 1, all of the state’s cities and counties must repeal local rules limiting gun ownership. Although the state has claimed sole right to regulate firearms since 1987, this year’s new law adds fines for local officials who fail to comply, and gives gun owners a right to sue for damages if they believe their rights have been violated. |

A Portsmouth police detective was recently lauded for defusing a July 4 incident in which Stawbery Banke Museum officials asked a couple openly carrying pistols to leave a ceremony attended by the governor and a retired U.S. Supreme Court judge.
Praise cannot be offered to the New Hampshire lawmakers who legislated the right for citizens to openly carry guns. They are not alone, for the record, as only six states and the District of Columbia fully prohibit the open carry of handguns. |

Shoot the bad guys. According to the WSJ, gun rights groups are working hard to realize the founding fathers' dream of an America in which every last shopper at the supermarket, every last teacher at school, and every last anonymous spectator sitting quietly in the back of a courtroom would be carrying a loaded Glock. Bet you'd think twice about being rude to a fellow American if you knew that person was toting a 9mm with hollowpoints, eh? Unless you had your own, bigger gun. You'll teach them to threaten you, with their ubiquitous firearms! |

After assessing the arguments, I find those by gun-registry opponents do not hold water and there is no evidence that can justify scrapping the registry.
Some claim registration of long guns makes gun-owners feel like "second-class citizens;" others argue it's OK to compare rifle ownership with all-terrain vehicles (which aren't registered) but not with cars (which are registered), and some say target shooting is an Olympic event that "requires self-control and concentration." |

We have to imagine that a time will come (maybe, let’s say, around the year 2150) when gun rights will be a settled legal issue in our country and there will be little to fight over.

After an unexpected postponement in June, representatives from the USANA Gun Club are now scheduled to appear in front of the Pittsgrove Township Planning Board at the end of this month.
The hearing set for Aug. 23 at 6 p.m. will take place at Arthur P. Schalick High School.
“This first meeting is specifically to allow the applicant to show if they have previous approvals on the property for certain conditional uses,” said Mayor Linda DuBois. “The applicant needs to do that through solid documentation.” |

For five years the United Nations has been working on a comprehensive treaty to control the international arms trade. The last preparatory meetings were held in New York on July 11-15, and the organization is preparing the final version to be adopted and released for ratification by the member nations in 2012. The process represents a constitutional threat to Americans with, unfortunately, the support of President Obama. |

A new law bars those convicted of misdemeanors in domestic violence cases from buying firearms.
Felons are already barred from buying pistols, rifles, guns and other firearms.
Federal law prohibits gun ownership by anyone with a misdemeanor conviction stemming from domestic violence. But there has been a gap in reporting the crime from New York. |

It’s hot. It’s 100 degrees over a large portion of the country and that means you probably wont’ be wearing a lot of clothes. Since concealed carry means your gun will be out of sight you won’t have much clothing to cover up your great equalizer.
For many years I’ve been asking people about their concealed carry guns. Many folks switch up their arms depending on what they wear. Here are ten lightweight carry guns that are easy to conceal.
The criteria for this list are guns less than 15 ounces and 5.5” in length – easy enough to fit inside the waist band and cover with a t-shirt. The caliber had to be a minimum of .32 auto so you won’t see your favorite gun here if it’s a .22 or .25. |

“The Storting, the Norwegian Parliament, should repeal immediately that nation’s restrictive firearms control laws,”gun law expert John M. Snyder said here today.
“The Norwegian Government should allow law-abiding citizens to acquire, carry and use the guns they need to protect themselves and their loved ones from mass murderers and other violent criminals,” he added.

Three men suspected of trying to rob a man in New Haven ended up with a gun turned on them, police said.
The victim was walking in the areas of State and Wall streets at 9:46 p.m. on Saturday when three people walked up to him, apparently to rob him, police said.
The man had a handgun, drew it and held two of the people until police arrived. |

After four years and two murder trials, homeowner Ray Lemes was acquitted by a jury Monday night of criminal wrongdoing for gunning down a college student on the asphalt of his cul-de-sac.
Lemes, 52, solemnly shook hands with his attorneys immediately after the eight-man, four-woman jury’s verdict was read and then briskly left the Cadena-Reeves Justice Center with his wife and a small crowd of supporters. |

A 63-year-old widow shot and killed an intruder who was wearing only boxer shorts when he accosted her in her 16th Street home early Monday, police said.
Lt. Tom Collins, Newport’s acting police chief, said the incident was a tragedy for both the woman, Phyllis Maloney, and for the man who was fatally shot, Jordan R. Risheberger, 21, of Florence.
Detectives do not expect to file charges against Maloney because the investigation shows she was defending herself in her own home. |

A two-part series on the ten-year history of reformed concealed carry in Michigan contains some blistering information about the gun prohibition lobby that ought to raise cheers among anyone who has had to explain what’s wrong with the folks at Washington CeaseFire.
The reports appeared this weekend in the Detroit Free Press, a newspaper not known for being particularly friendly toward the Second Amendment, not unlike the Seattle Times or Seattle Post-Intelligencer. Those newspapers were split on Initiative 676 in 1997 (the P-I surprisingly opposed, the Times supported) the roundly-rejected, gun control measure that was pretty much the Titanic maiden voyage of Washington CeaseFire as a lobbying organization. |

Two weeks ago, concerned about news reports that President Obama would order the investigation of citizens buying two or more rifles at a time, a licensed Texas gun dealer contacted his local Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) official to find out if the reports were true, so he could be in compliance. The ATF official assured him that he was aware of such legislation having been considered, but added, “The law is not going to pass, and we can’t enforce something that isn’t law.” This week, however, gun dealers and pawnshop owners across the country received a certified letter from the ATF requiring just such compliance. |

They believe that gun owners and those who believe in God and country are Neanderthals and ignoramuses. Heaven forbid you actually want to join the military and defend your country. Most of all, they believe that they are all well-represented by the Democratic Party, and through that belief have an effective unity, as evidenced by the last presidential election.
On the other hand, there’s the “Country Class,” basically everyone else. We have a variety of beliefs, a loyalty to our country, and though the Republican Party vies to represent us, only a fourth of us feel represented by this political party. A major reason is that those in the Republican Party are, also, vying for membership in the Ruling Class. So how, did this happen? |

Too many people see the Second Amendment merely as a freedom. However, all of our rights, including those described in the Second Amendment, bear significant responsibilities.
Those Second Amendment responsibilities become more obvious when tragedies like the terrorist attack in Norway or the mass murder at Virginia Tech occur. In both of those incidents, a madman had free reign to slaughter innocent people because none of his victims had a simple tool: a firearm.
