Anyone who has followed columns I’ve written over the past few months knows what a stickler I am for training. If you are serious about carrying a concealed firearm for self-defense, training from a competent source trumps all the gadgets and whiz-bang, voodoo magic mind spells currently the rage in the age of the YouTube “expert.” The skills you acquire from those competent sources are perishable, and you don’t want to lose those hard won skills you took the time and money to learn. |

The conventions are over, and the candidates have spoken. Hillary Clinton, in her acceptance speech in Philadelphia, said she doesn’t want to repeal the Second Amendment or take anyone’s guns away—assertions she has made before and that we have addressed here. Still, she continues to push for further restrictions on gun ownership that won’t affect violent criminals, but only America’s law-abiding gun owners. Make no mistake about it, she does want to ban guns (it’s written in black and white in the party platform) and she is the anti-gun candidate in this race. |

Police say it looks like the man who was shot and killed outside a Glendale Circle K early Monday morning was trying to rob the woman who shot him. Police were called to the convenience store at 59th Avenue and Camelback Road at about 1 a.m. When they arrived on the scene, they discovered Frank Taylor, 27, in the parking lot. He had been shot. Paramedics treated him on the scene and then took him to the hospital where he died of his injuries. |

Attorneys for the father of a man shot to death by Los Angeles police in Pacoima urged a jury today to award millions of dollars in damages, but a lawyer for the city said the officer who fired the fatal shot did so in self-defense and complied with LAPD policy. The different viewpoints regarding the shooting of 26-year-old Christian Eaddy were given as the lawyers on both sides gave their final arguments in trial of his father’s Los Angeles Superior Court lawsuit against the city, which alleges negligence and civil rights violations. |

Atlanta school officials say no school district firearms have gone missing, contrary to the claims of an anonymous tipster who reported that 30 weapons were stolen from a school vehicle in May. The district acknowledged poorly-maintained records but said all of the 90 firearms purchased for the newly established Atlanta Public Schools Police Department were immediately accounted for. The department officially came into existence on July 1, replacing Atlanta Police Department officers who previously patrolled the schools.

Acquiring an AR 15 rifle in Colorado could be as simple as buying a new roof. At least that's what Weatherproof -- a Colorado-based roofing company -- is touting in their latest promotion. "It symbolizes, at our core, who we are; True American Patriots," Weatherproof representatives said of their promotion. "Just like the AR 15 we're promoting, our roofs are built for Americans, by Americans."

To kill elk, you’ve got to find elk. At times, that can be easier said than done—so it certainly helps to call upon trustworthy gear. That, at least, I had in spades. If you’re going to spend five days hunting the thick timber, you’re going to want to make sure your gear’s going to come through when it counts. And we were sporting some top-of-the-line optics. When afield, I carried my Leupold BX-3 Mojave bino and RX-1200i TBR laser rangefinder. The TBR stands for “True Ballistic Range,” and is a feature that marries laser rangefinding with an inclinometer and advanced computerized ballistics to produce measures that are accurate to less than a yard, no matter the angle at which the laser is fired.

The FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) is the United States’ national aviation authority and has the powers to regulate anything in regards to American civil aviation. Up until now, no one questioned whether this would include drones or not, but this has now been made clear in a recent case at the U.S. district court in Connecticut where the judge sided with the FAA.
