"Randy Weaver, still wiry after 10 years out of the limelight, his dark hair turned silver, was signing autographs for fellow survivalists at an Independent American Party convention in Elko, Nev., in April when someone asked if he would act differently if he could relive the horrible 11-day siege at Ruby Ridge."

" 'I would have put on my full camo,' Weaver said, looking at his questioner, 'and shoot them in the back. As many as I could.' "

"One of the most disheartening bits of knowledge one can have is that of the extreme gullibility of the American people and the fact that even when confronted with facts, the lies are believed rather than the facts. This is not only in regards to the propaganda put forth by the government controlled media, but also in regards to the denial of statutes that state clearly (rare) to whom 'laws' apply."

"The new federal rule takes effect Friday, raising concern among civil rights advocates."

"In the 1980 Mariel boatlift, more than 100,000 Cubans fled their country on rickety boats, inner tubes, and makeshift rafts, inundating Florida shores as well as federal immigration, law enforcement, and welfare agencies."

"That 'immigration emergency' has not been equalled since in volume, but uncomfortable echoes of it come with the financial, legal, and political challenges brought by each new wave of illegal immigrants. A remedy for that sort of mass immigration emergency, passed by Congress in 1996 but not finalized until recently, allows the US attorney general to deputize local police to enforce immigration laws – a mingling of enforcement powers never permitted before."

NRA's President Charlton Heston was interviewed by WorldNetDailiy.com about various aspects of the violent and malicious war being waged against gunowners and their rights. The following quote is noteworthy:
"[President Clinton] was in favor of arresting criminals, but he didn't want to actually prosecute them, which, of course, ruins the whole thing. The idea of laws is that they be obeyed. If someone violates those laws, they must pay for it. I think that's one of the most important changes that came with this last election: An increase in prosecutions, not just arrests."
RESPONSE:

If Mr. Heston has ever called for the repeal of gun laws, we are unaware of his having done so -- even though literally thousands of gun laws directly violate the Second Amendment. To the NRA's President, you should apparently be punished for disobeying any law -- even an outright gun ban or outright prohibition on carrying a firearm to defend yourself against street thugs. (And even if you do not read the above quote that way, our enemies certainly will.)

WorldNetDaily titled this interview: "Heston on the right to bear arms".

A more appropriate title might be: "Heston on the Importance of Punishing People Who Exercise Their Constitutional Rights".

Lengthy criminal records of murderers caught by armed citizen

The report last week of a man who'd shot and helped capture the people who murdered his ailing mother didn't include the extensive criminal records of the thugs.

This report goes into great detail. Among the criminal histories are:
• released from prison in February
• third stay behind bars."
• also served 61/2 months in prison for another breaking and entering conviction in 2000
• spent 26 months in prison for convictions of breaking and entering vehicles and two counts of breaking and entering until he was released in October 1996.
• in 1993, convicted of two counts of breaking and entering and received probation
• released from prison five months ago
• been to prison for safecracking, larceny and possession with the intent to sell and deliver a controlled substance - served three months in prison
• Four months later, he was back behind bars, serving six months in prison.
• has been convicted of resisting arrest, possession of a controlled substance, driving while license revoked, selling a controlled substance and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle
In other words, these guys aren't deterred by laws -- but a firearm sure made them leave in a hurry.

Also noteworthy is the fact that their crimes became more severe. From "breaking and entering" to "murder" isn't exactly a short hop. The Big Question: How many ex convicts who did time for breaking and entering are roaming the streets today with violence on their minds, and how many Sarah Brady-worshipping disarmed sitting ducks are waiting to be victimized by them?

Julia Child's Kitchen Unveiled at Smithsonian

"Not everything from the kitchen was ordinary. From Child's kitchen junk drawer came a signaling mirror issued to her when she served in the Office of Strategic Services, the forerunner of the CIA."

"The instructions on the mirror sound as specific as some of Child's detailed recipes: 'Hold this mirror close to face and reflect sunlight on any nearby surface in line with target.' "

"According to a recent assay report, twenty million dollars in fine gold lies beneath the ground on a few acres at Jicarilla, New Mexico. Miner Jerry Fennell owns the mining claims and for about thirty years he has made a living and raised a family by panning the dry gulch and working a swimming pool size pit behind his home with a pick and shovel. Fennell has no bulldozers or dump trucks. A wheelbarrow and a gentle burro appropriately named 'Dusty' haul most of the ore."

"Those days of, 'just getting by,' will be over for Jerry if the U.S. Forest Service has its way. According to Fennell, he recently received a letter from the Lincoln National Forest office saying that he will be 'charged with trespass' unless he files paperwork he says will put him out of business. 'Once I file the paper (a plan of operation), the Forest Service will impose such a huge reclamation bond that I won't be able to afford it. I have watched them do it to my neighbors. They are all gone now. I am the last miner in the Jicarilla Mountains.' "

"He further said that he has repeatedly asked the Forest Service to prove that they even own the land on which his claim is located. 'All they have provided is a copy of an Executive Order signed by President Woodrow Wilson that indicates certain lands must be taken to connect the Lincoln National Forest to another National Forest. As best as I can determine through my research, this land may not even belong to the Forest Service.' "
