Let’s be honest. If you own guns or you’re a gun-rights supporter, and if you’re concerned about government restrictions on your Second Amendment rights, the future looks bright. The elevation of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court may well represent the death knell for draconian forms of gun control — including bans on so-called “assault weapons” and bans on standard-capacity magazines in semi-automatic pistols and rifles. |

Charleston City Council is set to weigh a resolution on Tuesday that urges "reasonable gun legislation," as state politicians continue to seem unwilling to advance any new firearm laws in the aftermath of gun deaths here in Charleston and across the nation. Items before council on Tuesday also include an ordinance that would ban "enhanced trigger devices" like bump stocks and trigger cranks, which can effectively transform legal guns into illegal automatic weapons. The measure was approved earlier this month by the Public Safety Committee, which also added the resolution urging action by state lawmakers.

Will some careless campaign work and a few missing strikethroughs stop Washingtonians from voting on one of the most comprehensive gun reform measures in the country? It’s up to the Washington State Supreme Court to decide after a Thurston County judge threw out Initiative 1639 on Friday over a technicality. The case is now going to Washington’s highest court, which will hopefully rule on the case before ballots have to be printed early next month.

Near the end of Stacey Abrams’ latest town hall meeting, she heard a question that’s become a near-ritual at these events. A voter wanted to know if talk that Abrams “is going to take away all of the guns” is correct. Her gun stance is a key factor in the race, not least because she embraces firearms restrictions and openly wars with the gun lobby, a shift that breaks with the party’s decades-old political approach to the debate in Georgia. |

A Sydney man has been spared jail time after he made replica guns with a 3D printer for "fantasy role-play" and advertised one for $1 million online when he was in the throes of a video game addiction. Sicen Sun, who once enjoyed a successful career in advertising, says he only intended for the replica firearms - which included an imitation sub-machine gun seen in Stargate - to be used as costume props. |

A judge says a gun buyer screening initiative that Nevada voters approved in November 2016 was fatally flawed and can't be enforced. Judge Joe Hardy Jr. in Las Vegas ruled Monday that proponents and voters should have known the measure would mean the state would need the FBI to take over criminal background checks during private sales of firearms.

The superintendent of Chicago's beleaguered police department shifted the blame for the city's gun violence epidemic from the cops to the courts, blaming judges and prosecutors who refuse to jail repeat offenders arrested with illegal firearms.
Johnson, who has called for tougher punishment in the past for those convicted of firearms offenses, said "as long as we fail to create repercussions for carrying and using illegal guns, or more importantly, hold repeat violent offenders accountable for their actions, we’re simply going to continue to have these discussions on Monday mornings.”
Submitters note: Finally someone tells the truth. If you remove the certainty of punishment, you only encourage continuation of the problem. |

More than 17 million Americans are now licensed to carry concealed across the United States, according to an updated report from the Crime Prevention Research Center, headed by author and researcher Dr. John Lott.
Lott is the author of several books on gun control and statistics, and his Center publishes the concealed carry report annually in late summer. In remarks to Fox News, Lott observed, “We have seen an increase from 4.6 million permits in 2007 to 17.25 million now, with the number increasing every year. It seems very likely that we will continue seeing an increase next year.” |

A fatal shooting caught on video outside a convenience store in July has reignited debate over Florida’s "stand your ground" self-defense law, renewing calls by civil rights activists and politicians to abolish the hotly debated statute. A July 19 surveillance video shows an escalating encounter in a convenience store parking lot after 48-year-old Michael Drejka confronted Britany Jacobs about why she had parked in a handicap-reserved parking space without a permit. Jacobs was parked while waiting for her boyfriend, Markeis McGlockton, who was inside the store with one of the couple’s three children. |
