Two years ago I wrote about an idiot politician publicly making a fool of himself at his own scripted press conference. The politician was California State Sen. Kevin de León, and his topic was “Ghost Guns.” The press conference was to publicize de León’s latest gun control bill, a proposal to require anyone making a gun in his or her garage to register it with the state Department of Justice and engrave a DOJ-supplied serial number on the gun. His primary justification for this proposal was that a mentally disturbed young man who had been denied purchase of a firearm had subsequently manufactured a firearm from purchased parts and fabricated components, and used that homemade gun to murder several people before committing suicide. |

A gun-safety group founded by former Rep. Gabby Giffords endorsed Sen. Pat Toomey (R., Pa.) Monday, adding to a growing list of gun-control supporters backing the incumbent. The political action committee, Americans for Responsible Solutions, said it hopes to line up more support for its cause among congressional Republicans like Toomey. At the same time, its backing could help the incumbent, locked in an ever-closer race with Democrat Katie McGinty, attract moderate voters. |

“Ready on the left?” “Ready on the left.”
“Ready on the right?” “Ready on the right.”
“Ready on the firing line?”
The range master makes one final check visually, noting each firing station and shooter to be sure everything is, in fact, in order. Everything looks good.

A county council committee on Monday declined to propose a new ordinance to regulate the discharge of guns on private property in unincorporated areas, saying the issue needs further discussion with local residents to determine a solution that will work countywide. “This will give councilmen time to get out there and talk to their constituents and to get with staff and see if there are any possibilities that we can explore, because it’s going to meet a constitutional challenge, it’s going to meet a public challenge,” said Al Allen, Horry County councilman and chairman of the public safety committee.

A rash of gun-toting Americans visiting Canada prompted its border agency to launch a public awareness campaign on Monday reminding Americans about their northern neighbors' relatively strict firearms laws. "Canadian laws are different than US ones," the Canada Border Services Agency said in a statement. "Non-restricted firearms can be used for hunting purposes and protection against wildlife in remote areas." |

Daniel Boone, if he’d had the choice, would’ve been wise to trade old Tick-Licker for any of the in-line muzzleloaders available at Walmart. With a scope and today’s excellent bullets and powders, modern in-lines are effective on deer at 200 yards, even in the hands of a weekend warrior. Except for a few holdout areas where they’re illegal, scoped in-lines have largely replaced traditional smokepoles during muzzleloader seasons.

With all the current attacks on law enforcement, some would say that "times sure have changed" — but they haven’t. There’s always been this underlying disdain for law enforcement, and not just by the criminal element within our society. We’ve all dealt with "respectable people" who turn into vicious animals given the right stimuli. Whether that be drugs, alcohol, or just getting a speeding citation. The homeowner doesn’t curse the firefighter who comes to put out the fire. How many of you have been cursed out by the homeowner who called to make a complaint against someone else? How many of you have had to lock up the complainant? I’m guessing probably more times than you can remember.

This is not your daddy’s “Lethal Weapon.”
Premiering Sept. 21, Fox’s “Lethal Weapon” is a reboot of the popular franchise that starred Mel Gibson and Danny Glover as bickering, but fierce, cops. The original 1987 movie was a huge hit. Fans loved it for the banter — and the action. |

When it comes to the many different ways you can invest your money, investing in guns is probably not the first thing that pops into your mind. Firearms are usually bought for protection or sport. However, some people buy them as an investment, hoping that their value will increase over time. This has especially been true in recent years as talk of stricter gun control laws has picked up in the aftermath of several tragic mass shootings.
