After three shootings involving kids over the weekend, Memphis Police are making it easy for you to keep your gun safe. They're giving away gun locks for free, but several people have contacted us asking if this is a hoax, wondering if it's an attempt by police to get unlicensed guns off the streets. We spoke with police, and they say every police station is giving away gun locks for free, no strings attached and no questions asked.

“Fool me once that I am not some grandstanding politician and my grandson was indicted on a gun charge, shame on you. Fool me twice that my great-grandson was recently arrested for a gun charge and shame on me.”

The old saying saying needed some tinkering in a futile attempt to describe and accurately portray just what is happening in the super-grade reality television plot twists of an extended political family ruling over Cleveland. This is an issue so radioactive that even the King himself, LeBron James, would not touch with a ten foot basket in regards to lingering lack of racial inclinations.

A Florida driver for the ride-hailing giant Uber is suing the company for the right to carry his gun while on the job. Jose Mejia, who has a Florida concealed-carry license, drives for Uber in the Miami area. In a class action suit filed earlier this month, Mejia claims that Uber’s no-guns policy violates his rights under a 2008 state law that grants concealed carriers the right to possess a gun in their vehicle. The lawsuit quotes extensively from the statute, which says that Floridians have the right to keep and bear arms “within their motor vehicles for self-defense and other lawful purposes” and that these rights “are not abrogated by virtue of a citizen becoming a customer, employee, or invitee of a business entity.”

On the heels of deadly protests and counterprotests in Charlottesville, Virginia, the American Civil Liberties Union has stated it will no longer defend the First Amendment rights of “hate groups” seeking to lawfully exercise their right to openly carry firearms. This announcement followed a highly circulated article published by Slate, which accused open carry militias of stifling speech through threats of violence and accused those exercising open carry of bringing firearms with the intent to “hurt people they want to see extinguished.”

The latest report from the Crime Prevention Research Center (CPRC) shows that not only did nearly two million more Americans obtain their concealed carry permits in 2016 — a new record for the fourth year in a row — but that brings the total to more than 16.3 million U.S. citizens with permits. That’s up from 4.5 million just a decade ago, and means that, on average, one in every 20 American citizens has a concealed carry permit.

A push to allow Hoosiers to carry handguns without a license was the focus of a nearly five-hour committee hearing at the statehouse Tuesday. "Constitutional carry" is based on the idea that the Second Amendment already gives people the right to carry a handgun, so additional steps such as licensing are unnecessary. State representative Jim Lucas (R-District 69) authored a bill during the last legislative session to repeal the law that requires Hoosiers to have a gun permit. The bill was sent to committee for further discussion.
