"A Notice of Appeal was filed Tuesday in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas, Dallas Division, by plaintiff Jay Aubrey Isaac Hollis in his complaint against Attorney General Loretta Lynch and ATF Acting Director Thomas E. Brandon. The original Hollis v. Holder/Jones lawsuit, since renamed to reflect top level personnel changes, sought relief against the de facto ban on the transfer or possession of a machine gun manufactured after May 19, 1986. The appeal is necessary to keep the case going forward after the court issued an August 7 opinion and order siding with the government and dismissing the case." ...

"Seattle anti-gunners are gloating, and soliciting money, following Friday’s signing by Mayor Ed Murray of the gun and ammunition tax ordinance, which the Civic Skunk Works blog contended yesterday will 'undoubtedly save lives.'"

"There’s a police chief in Detroit who has a far different perspective about keeping people safe, according to a Friday report by Fox News. Chief James Craig, according to the story, supports the notion of legally-armed citizens, and last year on his watch, 1,169 new handgun permits were issued and more than 8,100 new firearms were purchased." ...

"'Three Marines stop terrorist on French train' was the gist of the first headlines on this weekend’s counterterrorism story. But when the actual facts came out, the story got even better."

"As it turns out, it wasn’t three Marines. It was two U.S. servicemembers — from the National Guard and the Air Force — and their civilian buddy from middle school. And they had the help of a traveling British businessman."

"The three were riding on a train from Amsterdam to Paris when a gunman ... started shooting. One of the Americans, Airman 1st Class Spencer Stone, 23, sprinted at the gunman and tackled him. The others, Oregon National Guardsman Alek Skarlatos, 22, and Sacramento State University student Anthony Sadler, 23, joined in." ...

"There is no subject on which reporting is so consistently poor as firearms. Most reporters are anti-gun; as a result, even when reporting is not overtly biased it is generally so murky as to obscure rather than reveal basic facts. A case in point is this Minneapolis Star Tribune story with the ambiguous headline: 'As gun-carrying permits reach historic levels in Minnesota, related crimes remain in check.' Which I guess is another way of saying that crime rates haven’t risen." ...

"'F**k! You are a fool. Take a police car and leave F1.' Ouch! That bit of binary bile was directed at Lewis Hamilton, the 2014 F1 World Champeen. What grievous online misconduct provoked that kind of ire from racing fans? mirror.co.uk reports that 'The Formula 1 star, who qualified to take pole position in tomorrow’s Belgian Grand Prix at Spa, posted the footage of himself relaxing at a gun range on Instagram.' Bad enough, given the generally hoplophobic vibe in Europe and the UK, where the Brit was born. But his real offense was one of timing . . ." ...

"Tonight at 10 p.m. Eastern/7 p.m. Pacific, Fox News will air a one-hour special on Hurricane Katrina as the 10th anniversary of that disaster looms, and you can bet that many of the Second Amendment advocates who lived through the unconstitutional New Orleans gun grab following the storm will be watching."

"Indeed, the gun seizures in the hurricane's aftermath created quite a few Second Amendment converts. Their outrage turned to activism, to make sure that what happened in New Orleans can never happen again on American soil." ...

"Ever since Illinois became the last state in the country to allow concealed carry, we’ve seen reports of legally-armed citizens defending themselves against armed criminals. Here is another one of those stories that happened late Thursday. A 24-year-old man, legally carrying a concealed firearm, was walking down the street with a woman when two suspects approached them with a handgun and announced that they were being robbed . . ."

"As a response, the 24-year-old drew his firearm, as did one of the armed thugs. Both men fired. The permit holder was shot in the leg, while the suspect was shot in the chest." ...

"A Wisconsin appellate court on Thursday ruled that the right to keep and bear arms extends to all individuals in the United States, including 'unauthorized aliens.'"

"The 7th Circuit Court of Appeals in United States v. Meza-Rodriguez decided 'the term 'the people' in the Second Amendment has the same meaning as it carries in other parts of the Bill of Rights' and that the framers could have used the term 'citizen' to bestow the right, as they had in other parts of the Constitution, but chose not to." ...

"The Black Lives Matter movement has misplaced priorities, according to one of the group’s most vocal critics, Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke."

"Sheriff Clarke has found himself in the national spotlight with regular appearances on the Fox News Channel, CNN, and other news outlets ever since telling his Wisconsin constituents two years ago in a series of ads to arm themselves against intruders rather than hiding under the bed and waiting for overworked, undermanned cops to arrive."

"A former city of Milwaukee police commander, Clarke, a Democrat, has been county sheriff since 2002 and was reelected to his fourth term in that job in 2014. He is an outspoken supporter of Second Amendment rights and firearms training." ...

... "In a city plagued by chronic unemployment and crime and guarded by a dwindling police force, residents of Detroit are increasingly taking protection of themselves, their families and property into their own hands. Those who do so responsibly have the blessing and backing of Detroit Police Chief James Craig."

"'When you look at the city of Detroit, we’re kind of leading the way in terms of urban areas with law-abiding citizens carrying guns,' Craig said recently."

"The chief's call to arms, which first came in December, 2013, has been answered by thousands of men and women tired of being victims and eager to reclaim their beleaguered city." ...

"The city took her 12 guns away in 2013. KNTV reports that she went to federal court recently to get them back. She contends in her lawsuit, which also seeks damages and an injunction to prevent future seizures, that she has a right to have guns in her home, despite her husband’s mental health issue."

"The idea that government is going to disarm all Americans is alive. The Libertarian Party claims the New York pistol permit law is in violation of the Second Amendment. As a person who obtained a carry permit last year, I do agree that the 14-month process was too long and, between fingerprinting, a required class, etc., was expensive at over $200." ...
