"The Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) has filed a friend-of-the-court brief in the Nordyke v King case, supporting the position that the Alameda County, Calif., gun ban is a Second Amendment issue, and as such should be subject to 'strict scrutiny,' which is the most stringent standard of judicial review in the United States."

"The case ... was brought by two operators of a gun show. ..."

"SAF Founder and Executive Vice President Alan M. Gottlieb said that the importance of the case stems from the fact that 'it could establish the highest standard of scrutiny to which gun laws around the country would be subjected.'"

"As unlikley as it might seem, OpenCarry.org, the hub of the American open carry movement, has come out against government mandates requiring open carry. The issue bubbled up amidst recent howls by the Metro Detroit political class lamenting Michigan Open Carry Inc.'s victory in securing gun carry rights at the upcoming Arts, Beats and Eats 2010 festival in the City of Royal Oak."

"Go on. Admit it. You want a precision rifle. For hunting. Target practice. Picking off zombies from your bedroom window. Does it really matter why? No. The only thing that matters is how much. A well-sorted precision rifle with pillar bedding, free-floated barrel, high quality bases and rings and killer optics will melt your credit card faster than a butane blowtorch. Alternatively, you can scratch that itch for Old School Cool with a Remington Model 700 VS. With a few odds and ends, you can built a precision setup that will exceed your shooting capabilities (in a good way) without breaking the bank. Yeah, let's do that." ...

Like most New Yorkers, the Ackers lived in a gun-free world, at least as far as their social circle was concerned. They were against firearms in all forms, didn't see why a little thing like the Second Amendment couldn't easily be ignored, failed to understand why anyone would hunt for food when you simply buy it at Fairway, and were quire sure that, were they ever to encounter a gun, one of them would quickly kill the other, or perhaps him- or herself, entirely by accident. And should there ever be trouble ... they would simply call 911 and the cops would come running." ...

Open Carry is a Bad Idea

"Open Carry (OC) is a hot topic on TTAG. No surprise; a lot of gun rights proponents heart OC. At first blush, it seems a promising way to extend and defend Second Amendment rights. In many states (including my home state of Colorado) there's no law against openly carrying a firearm—as long as one is not brandishing said firearm in a threatening manner. Quite a few Western, Midwestern, or Southern states also lack prohibitions against the practice. Include me out. I think OC will ultimately harm gun rights. It's ill-advised practically, tactically, and politically." ...

"Ahem. (Short answer: never.) Well, strictly speaking I do not disagree with Brother Albright. (Even if I did, I wouldn’t. It’s the unwritten 13th Commandment for TTAG writers: Thou Shalt Not Flame a Fellow TTAG Scribe in Public.) But I happen to think he makes some valid points.
