An increasing number of Europeans are turning to firearms and other self-defense weapons to protect themselves, according to a Reuters report. Many have attributed the spike in permits to heightened fears caused by recent terrorist attacks. Applications for gun permits are climbing in at least three European countries, according to figures cited by Reuters.
In the Czech Republic, the number of gun permit holders grew by almost 6,000 to nearly 300,000 in the first five months of 2016.
The report comes after Czech President Milos Zeman announced he was in favor of residents owning firearms in the wake of the Munich mall shooting in July. |

The director of the National Rifle Association’s Institute for Legislative Action on Wednesday urged Mainers to protect their personal freedom from the influence of out-of-state elitists by rejecting a referendum question on background checks for gun sales in November.
Chris Cox, the executive director of the political and lobbying arm of the NRA, spoke at the Maine Heritage Policy Center’s 2016 Freedom and Opportunity Luncheon in Portland. Much of his speech focused on Question 3 on the November ballot, the referendum question that would require background checks on gun sales and transfers, but Cox also urged Mainers to continue to fight for liberty on all fronts. |

Let’s set the record straight right now: The NRA believes that terrorists should not be allowed to purchase or possess firearms. Period.
Anyone on a terror watch list who tries to buy a gun should be thoroughly investigated by the FBI. If the investigation uncovers evidence of terrorist activity or involvement with terror groups, the government should be allowed to immediately go to court, block the sale and arrest the terrorist.
At the same time, due process protections must be put in place that allow law-abiding Americans who are wrongly put on a watch list to be removed from it. Constitutional rights should not be denied without due process of law. |

That’s because they know you don’t have to overturn it to gut it.
And that is what will happen to the Second Amendment.
Clinton has been, for her, relatively forthcoming in her stance. Some of it hews to President Obama’s talking points — a ban on “assault weapons”; closing the “gun show loophole”; background checks; those on the “no-fly” list get put on the “no-gun” list.
But she goes well beyond that. She has said she thinks the Supreme Court’s Heller decision was wrongly decided. That decision upheld the Second Amendment right of individuals to keep and bear arms. |

This weekend hunters in North Mississippi have the opportunity to save money.
Hunters throughout mississippi are getting excited about the upcoming second amendment tax free weekend coming up August 26th through the 28th.
"It's a very good thing. It is." says customer Charlie Estes.
Hunters Haven owner George Partlow says a majority of hunting equipment will be tax free, but not everything.
"Basically all your firearms, ammo, and most of the related articles that go along with guns and ammo are included in it. Some things arn't, gun safes arn't. But the majority of all the firearms and ammunition are. All your archery equipment, bows, crossbows, all that's included in the tax free weekend." Says Partlow. |

Gun buyers in two states will soon get a reprieve from sales taxes.
Mississippi and Louisiana will host “Second Amendment Weekend” sales tax holidays over the next two weeks. Mississippi will exclude purchases of firearms, ammunition and hunting gear from the state’s 7% sales tax from Aug. 26-28. Louisiana’s 5% sales tax won’t be imposed on non-commercial firearms purchases from Sept. 2-4.
Of course, gun sales are always free from state sales taxes in Alaska, Delaware, Montana, New Hampshire and Oregon, the only five states in the nation with no sales tax. |

Two legal challenges to D.C.'s restrictive concealed-carry law will be heard by a federal three-judge panel next month, pushing the fight over how far the city can go in restricting who can carry a concealed handgun further up the judicial process.
On Sept. 20, judges Karen LeCraft Henderson, Thomas B. Griffith and Stephen F. Williams of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit will hear the two cases, Wrenn v. D.C. and Grace v. D.C., in which residents challenged the city's requirement that anyone who wants to carry a concealed handgun show a "good reason" — read: a specific threat to their personal safety — in order to get a permit. |

Today UT students and faculty went back to school and immediately went back to protesting campus carry. New beginning this school year, carrying concealed weapons on campus is now allowed by state law…
But many at UT are hoping to change that. They lost in the legislature and they lost in the courts, but now opponents of campus carry at UT Austin are focusing on overturning the law or at least being able to opt out.
Just by looking at the size of the crowds that the opponents of campus carry still draw, they just might have the numbers to gun down this legislation. They bristle and cheer “Texas fight!” indicating their will to challenge the new law. |

A Louisiana man was shot and killed after he violated a restraining order and pointed his gun at a neighbor during a domestic dispute Saturday night.
The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office said a call came in reporting a domestic dispute at a residence on Fox Run Drive in Gonzales around 8 p.m. According to a news release, deputies responding to the call found the couple’s neighbor standing in the yard with a handgun.
The neighbor told police he heard a couple arguing and went outside to see if anyone needed help. As he approached the couple arguing outside the home, the armed man, identified as 43-year-old Nicky Wilkinson, pointed a handgun at the neighbor. That’s when the neighbor drew his own weapon and fired. |

Barry Bahrami went from incredulous to angry last month when California Gov. Jerry Brown signed a batch of firearms control laws known collectively as “Gunmageddon.”
Then, the San Diego-based CEO became determined to fight back against the laws, which take aim at so-called assault weapons, enforce ammunition background checks, mostly take effect Jan. 1 and outlaw the possession of high-capacity magazines and ban the "bullet buttons" that already require a tool to release the magazine, instead advocating that the rifle is partially disassembled, and that any rifle with a detachable magazine will be defined as an assault weapon. |

Kristina Botts assures us that a Clinton presidency would not endanger gun ownership thanks to congressional vote requirements [Second Amendment is not in peril]. Unfortunately, our constitutional rights are only as secure as the latest iteration of the Supreme Court allows them to be.
Some constitutional scholars estimate that 75 percent of federal activity is extra, or unconstitutional — all of it done without resorting to a constitutional convention. For example, federal meddling in education, health care, property rights, abortion, marriage, aspects of commerce, etc., were all achieved without specific enumeration in the Constitution. |

The online physician magazine Medical Economics deals with practice management and technology subjects of concern to doctors.
Last week it provoked its readers with an emotional rant against the American civil right of gun ownership, written by Los Angeles doctor Monya De.
De demonstrates no qualifications on the subject other than ignorant contempt for gun owners and a gift for self-promotion. She has a checkered past as an actual doctor, having failed to complete her residency training program for the documented reason of incompetence. |

Early on Tuesday in Indianapolis, Carl Williams, 48, was informed by his wife that she had just been carjacked by a man with a rifle. Williams then did what any civilian would do and phoned the police. When officers arrived on the scene, Williams opened the garage door to let in the officers and he was immediately shot in the stomach.
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) has labeled the shooting an accident and said their officers mistook Williams for the carjacking suspect. |

Students, alumni and spectators eagerly snatched up more than 4,500 donated dildos Tuesday evening at the University of Texas at Austin, preparing to assuage their frustration over a new state law allowing handguns to be carried on public university campuses.
Cocks Not Glocks, a protest group formed last fall, is urging students and others to openly carry the sex toys around campus, offering a multicolored counterpoint to the concealed weapons that holders of handgun licenses can now legally carry inside UT classrooms and most buildings. |

There are numerous perks to being editor of Bearing Arms. I’m often among the first to hear about and sample new products. I get to speak directly with manufacturers of firearms, gear, and ammunition. But despite the access to things, my favorite perks all involve education.
I’ve been blessed to take hundreds of hours of training classes from some of the best firearms and non-ballistic weapons instructors in the world. I’ve had a chance to hear their first-hand accounts both in class and over dinner or drinks, and get a glimpse into the mindset of some of federal agents, SWAT cops, Navy SEALs, Special Forces veterans, MARSOC Marines, civilian instructors, and world-class professional sport shooters. |

Picking up the backing of the gun-control group CeaseFirePA in a war of endorsements, Democratic U.S. Senate nominee Katie McGinty pledged Wednesday to work with Pennsylvania sportsmen and hunters on gun measures if she is elected.
McGinty said her Republican rival, Sen. Pat Toomey, views gun control "as a political calculation, as compared to a matter of principle," and slammed him for not acting on gun measures since he and Sen. Joe Manchin (D., W. Va.) cosponsored a failed bill for background checks in 2013. |

HILLARY Clinton supports stringent new gun-control laws, but denies she wants to gut Second Amendment rights. To see what it looks like when you implement two such seemingly contradictory goals, look no further than Mexico. The results don't bolster Clinton's case.
Under Mexico's constitution, citizens have the right to own a handgun and hunting rifles for self-defense and sport. But as The Associated Press recently reported, “Legally getting your hands on one, however, requires clearing a series of bureaucratic hurdles far stricter than in the United States and, for many, traveling great distances to reach the country's only gun store.” |

Today, Governor Chris Christie took a historic step on behalf of the state’s beleaguered gun owners by vetoing A.3689 and S.816. These two anti-gun bills were opposed by NRA in recent weeks but were ultimately adopted by anti-gun politicians in Trenton. Gov. Christie issued conditional vetoes which return the bills back to the Legislature with suggested language, which if adopted, would drastically improve a pair of draconian gun laws. If the Legislature rejects the Governor’s suggested amendments, the bills will die. |

I want to start by saying that I love laser sights. I own several of them and use them on high powered rifles, .22s and airsoft rifles. I bought my first Crimson Trace laser for a Kimber 1911 12 or 13 years ago. I use them for night shooting with night vision and I’ve used them a lot with my boys since they were very young to introduce them to shooting. In the right hands, they’re a great tool on a defensive gun, but there are some big myths about them. |
