Hacking attempts have become common, driven by the desire to access your information for financial gain and by disrupting your business and personal life. With elections approaching, you can bet this will be a hot topic.
Before going into the firearms industry full-time, I spent almost two decades as the owner of an internet company competing against major providers such as Comcast and ATT, in the Chicago area. Unauthorized access attempts were a daily battle. It wasn’t an attack here and there; it was common to have multiple attacks daily. |

On Wednesday, NRA-ILA filed an amicus curiae (or friend of the court) brief in support of a challenge to a Minnesota’s permitting law, which bans young adults ages 18–20 from exercising their right to carry a firearm for self-defense.
NRA-ILA has been advocating for the right to carry for decades. Last year in an NRA-ILA case, the Supreme Court struck New York’s restrictive licensing statute that prohibited ordinary, law-abiding citizens from obtaining concealed carry licenses. In doing so, the Court noted that 46 states have “shall-issue” carry statutes, which was the result of NRA-ILA’s efforts.

The U.S. Supreme Court should uphold a federal law that allows people under domestic restraining orders to be banned from carrying firearms, the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops has said in an amicus brief in a pending U.S. Supreme Court case.
“As the Church teaches, and this nation’s historical traditions demonstrate, the right to bear arms is not an unqualified license that must leave vulnerable family members to live in fear,” said the bishops’ Aug. 22 amicus brief. “Abused victims are precisely the people whom a just government is tasked with protecting. The Second Amendment does not stand as a barrier to their safety.” |

Ohio’s Tenth District Court of Appeals overturned a lower court’s decision to grant an injunction that allowed the City of Columbus to enact their own gun control laws. The appeals court found that Columbus’ attempt to block the state from enforcing uniform laws for firearms was incorrectly granted, since it was sought years after the challenge and after Columbus enacted their own ordinances that barred standard capacity magazines and firearm storage mandates. |

As this was being written, authorities in Jefferson County, Washington, on the north side of the Olympics National Park, were looking for a mountain lion that had attacked an 8-year-old girl, fortunately inflicting only minor injuries.
They were hoping to kill it (“euthanize” seems to be a politically correct term meant to spare the sensitivities of people who are always looking to be offended) and make sure the cougar didn’t attack anyone else.
The attack made national news and served as a reminder to those of us living in the West to be prepared. When they happen, wild animal attacks are sudden and swift, something cougars are very good at. |

Only one question in the two-hour debate focused on crime and how criminals are held accountable for their crimes, or in many big cities – not held accountable. The candidate responses highlighted reasons why Americans are continuing to buy firearms at historic levels, including more than 8 million first-time buyers just in the last couple of years. As Americans cite self-defense as a top reason for buying a firearm, 1 million or more National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) verifications have been processed for 48 straight months. |

The court, as it should have, chose to use the new Bruen standards, which asks whether the “Second Amendment’s plain text covers an individual’s conduct?” If the answer is yes, it next asked whether there exists a “historical precedent from before, during and even after the founding [that] evidences a comparable tradition of regulation?”
...
“The conduct of the defendant in the instant case clearly is covered by the Second Amendment,” Judge Coffee wrote. On the second point, he later concluded, “The Commonwealth points to no historical precedent limiting the reach of one’s exercise to a federal constitutional right only within that resident’s state borders.” |

I always find it amusing that some that clamor for so-called “gun control” truly think you can legislate away violent gun crimes.
Have they not seen the stats that show that Chicago, with among the strictest gun control laws of any city in the nation, has a high rate of violent crime?
More red flag laws like the infamous “Tennessee Three” want to pass in the Volunteer State won't do anything at all to prevent shootings like what happened at The Covenant School in Nashville. People with criminal intentions will always find a way to get guns, no matter what laws are passed. |

MA Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell co-led a coalition of 18 state attorneys general to file an amicus brief in Delaware State Sportsmen’s Association, Inc. v. Delaware Department of Safety and Homeland Security, defending Delaware’s commonsense laws that restrict access to assault weapons and large-capacity ammunition magazines.
In the brief, filed today in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, the states argue that the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution does not prevent states from enacting reasonable firearms regulations, including those that restrict possession of unusually dangerous weapons and accessories in order to protect public safety, prevent crime, and reduce the harms caused by gun violence. |

Under the draft proposal, four special permits are permitted, but the Planning Board may add additional permits by a two-thirds vote.
“We felt that if somebody came before us and a need was not met, that we could grant an additional license to that person to fill that need,” Planning Board Chair Michael Bonenfant said.
Director of Land Use Management Jeffrey Morrissettee told officials that the department settled on a total of four permits by adding three total license types (selling firearms, selling ammunition, and gunsmithing) together and dividing them by the total number of communities in Massachusetts for an average of approximately 3.67 permits per town. |

The NRA shot back in exclusive comment to Fox News Digital on Wednesday that Harris needs a history lesson on Biden’s work in the 1990s to ban so-called "assault weapons."
"Vice President Harris should learn her history before going on social media. She's referring to Biden's 1994 vote for the 'assault weapons' ban as his big so-called victory," NRA spokesman Billy McLaughlin told Fox News Digital. "Yet, thanks to the NRA, the ban expired in 2004. And, AR-15 ownership surged from 850,000 then to 25 million today." |

A Montana man was arrested on federal charges on Tuesday after he was spotted brandishing his rifle across the street from an elementary school.
In the past month, police have received at least two dozen calls from people concerned about Gabriel Cowan Metcalf, 49. He was often observed with a rifle outside his property at 430 Broadwater Ave., which is directly opposite Broadwater Elementary School, according to local news station KTVQ.
Tensions rose on Tuesday, the first day of school, when students were moved from the front playground to avoid being in sight of the rifle. |

At right around 5 pounds when loaded with 50 rounds of zippy 5.7x28mm NATO, KelTec’s new R50 folding carbine combines compact firepower with distinctly space-age looks. As a company that’s well-known for its innovative designs, KelTec blended features from several other firearms and mixed in its own secret sauce to bring this top-loading, ultra-light carbine to life.
Honestly, the gun is just not quite like anything I’ve ever shot before. It’s a kind of Bizarro World polymer-metal firearm that hosts its magazine in the center with a crocodile-like mouth that serves as the loading port. The whole thing is quite fascinating. |

In its merits brief in the Supreme Court, the Government drops any mention of slavery like a hot potato. However, it cannot escape the racist taint of so many historical gun laws. It approvingly cites California's "Greaser Act" of 1855 which provided: "All persons who are commonly known as 'Greasers' or the issue of Spanish and Indian blood, … and who go armed and are not known to be peaceable and quiet persons, and who give no good account of themselves, may be disarmed by any lawful officer, and punished otherwise as provided in the foregoing section." That was 90 days at hard labor. |

Gov. Gavin Newsom’s goal of buttressing gun violence prevention is admirable and one I share. However, his pursuit of a constitutional convention is shortsighted and more risky than the governor and his allies in the California Legislature suggest in their remarks. In contrast to their claims, a constitutional convention is a recipe for a constitutional crisis.
Article V of the U.S. Constitution sets out two ways by which the Constitution can be amended. One is a constitutional convention, which has never been utilized. Every amendment to the Constitution thus far has been adopted using the other method: two-thirds of Congress propose an amendment and three-fourths of state legislatures ratify it. |

“The district court correctly held that the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (‘ATF’) exceeded its authority by seeking to extend the definition of ‘firearm’ and ‘frame or receiver’ in federal law beyond what Congress has permitted,” argues the brief. “The district court also correctly held that vacatur was the proper remedy when a federal agency has been found to exceed its statutory authority. This Court, which has already found that Plaintiffs are likely to succeed on the merits in showing the challenged rule is unlawful, should affirm the district court’s decision.” |

A study released by Pew Research Center on Aug. 10 found that 72 percent of the gun-owning citizens it polled in early June cited protection as their primary purpose for owning a firearm. The figure represents a five percent increase when compared to the firm’s same question in 2017. Violent protests, widespread social unrest and calls to defund law enforcement plagued the nation during that six-year gap. |

It's no longer about ostrich egg trophies and quiet discussions outside of the chambers. The Tennessee House and Tennessee Senate are visibly not getting along with each other when it comes to this special session.
The purpose of the special session was to take up bills regarding public safety and the Second Amendment after The Covenant School mass shooting left six dead, including three children.
Its committees closed and adjournment until next week, the Senate gave a clear message to the House: They are done with the special session. This has left the House and its leadership seething at its counterparts. |
