Lord Dawson told Ronald Aldred, Charles Clark and Stephen Henderson:

"You have pleaded guilty to what I can only describe as a most extraordinary tale of abduction, extortion, and assault fuelled by the vicious background of high-level illegal drug dealing.

"In all my years in this court, I have never come across such a series of criminal acts. It is really like something out of a 1930s Hollywood gangster movie."

Here's a detailed story about a guy whose hunting partner blasted him in the back with a shotgun.

The man uses his experience to teach gun safety in firearms classes.

Unlike Sarah Brady, he doesn't blame guns -- he blames stupidity, among other things.

All it took for the police to consider this man "an imminent threat" was the word of neighbors.

They "moved quickly", confiscated his firearms and ammunition, arrested him, charged him -- and released all details to the newspaper.

Think T.I.P.S.

This guy "accused of threatening" may very well have threatened.

But he may not have done any such thing, too.

And there's no mention in this report of any EVIDENCE other than what people said.

Think about that very carefully.

He was at a court hearing "on drug charges", sitting outside the courtroom. A .25 fell out of his pocket and onto the floor. Someone grabbed it and held him for police.

The police dept. was right upstairs. The guy was carrying marijuana, too -- so he's not the brightest crayon in the box.

But FEDERAL charges?

You probably know that fewer than 1000 people a year die in gun-related accidents. But did you know that cell phones accounted for between 600 and 1000 deaths in 2001 - and are expected to cause 2000 deaths a year by 2004?

Next time some idiot suggests that "there should be a law" requiring locks, licenses, waiting periods or mandatory safety classes for guns you can suggest we save twice as many lives by requiring such restrictions for cells phones.

"A business owner was charged by police late last night after he shot at a robber fleeing his store with three bottles of liquor."

"Deles Watson, the 63-year-old owner of Dee Dee's Lounge and Liquor Store on Brunswick Avenue, was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon after he fired three shots at the robber, who he believed had a weapon, witnesses and police said."

"Watson did not have a permit for the gun and bystanders may have been put in jeopardy when he shot at the suspect, a police source said..."

NOTE: In New Jersey, you don't need a "permit" to merely possess a firearm -- you only need one to purchase or carry one. And this took place at a business, where carrying a firearm is legal.

Man sentenced on weapons charges
By Becky Malkovich

The subject of a COMIT Drug Task Force investigation was sentenced to 30 months in federal prison Thursday.

James R. Kreher, 42, of Piopolis, was sentenced by Judge J. Phil Gilbert in U.S. District Court on gun charges.

The charges stem from an investigation by COMIT, which, after receiving information regarding Kreher, contacted the ATF and obtained a federal search warrant for his Piopolis home.

The search warrant was executed on April 25, 2001, and agents with COMIT, the AFT [sic], the Hamilton County Sheriff's Department and the McLeansboro Police Department found a cache of weapons and drugs at Kreher's home.

Among the more than 100 weapons found in the home were three sawed-off shotguns and an AK-47 automatic weapon.

In addition to the weapons, agents also discovered 11 marijuana plants, finished methamphetamine product and drug paraphernalia.

In state court, Kreher was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of cannabis, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, unlawful production of cannabis and unlawful use of weapons.

Kreher was released on bond after an initial appearance in federal court. However, he later violated the conditions of his bond and was taken into custody by U.S. Marshals.

He was detained until his time of sentencing Thursday.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael Carr prosecuted the case and told the Judge that the AK-47 was found with a clip with 30 rounds of ammunition.

"I knew a few of them guns was illegal," Kreher told Judge Gilbert. "I didn't intend to hurt anyone. I never used them or nothing."

Kreher was sentenced to 30 months in federal prison on each count against him, to be served concurrently.

"Storey County Sheriff Pat Whitten does not have the special certification needed to use a gun in the line of duty..."

"Whitten, who is running for sheriff this year, said he is an administrator, not a police officer."

"Nevada Revised Statutes don't outline any qualifications for the office, saying only that a county sheriff has the powers of a peace officer."

"According to Statute 289.550, peace officers must obtain certification within one year of hire. A person who doesn't become certified within the statutory time cannot exercise the powers of a peace officer."

TIME MAGAZINE'S REPORT IS SURPRISINGLY SUPPORTIVE...

"For nearly a year, Washington's mushrooming aviation-security apparatus has concentrated on keeping anything that looks remotely like a weapon off airplanes. A G.I. Joe's toy gun. A granny's knitting needle. Everyone's nail clippers. Yet now the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is on the verge of a curious reversal. Next month the U.S. Senate is expected to pass legislation authorizing pilots to carry guns on planes."

"A combination of government bungling, rare cohesion among airline unions, a push from the enthusiastic National Rifle Association and a little-known historical precedent for cockpit guns has turned an idea few thought would pass into a virtually done deal."

The anti-gunners are fond of telling us that the "militia" mentioned to in the Second Amendment is the modern day National Guard. If that is so, how is it that the National Guard can be ordered by the federal government to faraway places like this?

"For the past month, both companies of Montana National Guard soldiers have been involved in a mission called Operation Harvest. The soldiers go door to door in Bosnian Muslim and Serb areas collecting rifles, grenades, rockets, land mines and any other weapons of war. Along with one other company of active duty soldiers, the month-long mission involved visiting 40,000 homes. The soldiers collected 500 guns and rockets, 3,200 grenades, 200 land mines and 230,000 rounds of ammunition. The weapons were destroyed at Eagle Base."

"Belgium could soon have one of the world's strictest gun-control laws on its books."

"A bill recently approved by the Council of Ministers would require all firearms in Belgium to be registered - even if they're just passing through - and prohibit their sale except where specifically authorised."

"If approved, the reform would constitute the biggest overhaul of gun-control laws here since 1933."

"Under the plan, all firearms would require registration, regardless whether they are manufactured here or abroad."

"Private citizens applying for registration would have to reveal what they intend to do with the weapon. The only possible options would be for sport or for hunting. Current classifications like 'defence guns' and 'war guns' are to be eliminated."

"But authorisation will not be given unless those living in the same household give their permission."

"The Belgian bill would also ban the sale of arms on the open market, including over the Internet. Guns could only be sold under the direction of the proper authorities, like the police and notaries."

"If Parliament approves the bill this autumn, the law would take effect next year, Lescrenier said. Current gun owners will then have up to six months to comply with the new requirements."

"If car makers and distillers are making efforts to reduce victimization by collaborating with MADD, what about gun makers, whose products killed nearly 29,000 people in 1999 (the last year for which statistics are available). To a rational person, it would appear that if any industry should be sensitive to the victims and survivors of the products it makes, it should be the firearms industry, makers of a product whose very purpose is to kill."

"Attention, Kmart shoppers. You are under arrest."

"Houston cops planned for weeks to swoop down on a parking lot and nab a bunch of drag racers but couldn't find any when they got there. So, what the heck, they just rounded up everyone in the parking lot outside a 24-hour Kmart and a Sonic Drive-In and charged the whole bunch with trespassing. No joke."

"At times like this we need some way to police the police."

"Just a few common sense comments: We hear very few comments from the liberals about the Second Amendment and law-abiding citizens owning guns. But if you care, best go to the polls and vote for freedom. They want to take our guns and only criminals will have them. Just look at England."

Game makers go to new levels of violence to compete with ‘Grand Theft Auto 3’

"On a pleasant Sunday afternoon a little after church had let out, Kimothy Wilson Jr., aka KJ, 16, picked up his 2000 Lamborghini Diablo at the garage where he had stashed it, then drove to the back entrance of the AmmuNation gun shop and retrieved a 9mm automatic. He chased down a pimp who had been giving his boss problems, and within seconds, he pinned the pimp’s ride between his car and a storefront, killing three pedestrians."

"A BLOODY shootout killed two more. They all died screaming."

"Game Over."

"To date no Lothian and Borders police officer has had to fire a weapon after being called to an incident, but police warn it is only a 'matter of time'."

"The warning comes as the two-month fake firearms amnesty run by the force reaches its final week. To date, 154 guns have been handed in during the surrender, due to finish on September 1."

"The state auditor's office will begin an investigation of the St. Louis Sheriff's Department within about a month after a newspaper alleged wrongdoing within the department..."

"Gov. Bob Holden ordered McCaskill and his legal counsel to conduct separate investigations into problems in the sheriff's department."

"The governor's actions came after a series of articles in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch over the past week. Among other things, the newspaper alleged that three deputies were paid full time to deliver court papers to residents more than a decade after the deputies had moved on to other full-time careers. It also alleged that five deputies were found by the city Police Board to be unfit to carry a gun or wear a badge as security guards because of past arrest records."

"And, the newspaper alleged that two high-ranking deputies drive city-owned cars, which are at their disposal around the clock, and still get $140 a month for car allowance."

"ELITE police guarding Prince Charles arrived in Scotland without the key to their gun box."

"The six-strong Royal Protection Unit left the keys on a desk in their London base before setting out for Holyrood Palace, Edinburgh, where the prince was staying with Camilla Parker Bowles during a week-long visit to Scotland."

"The blunder was discovered when officers went to open the box - containing Glock 9mm automatics, handguns, and rifles - in Holyrood."

"The officers from the Metropolitan Police had to borrow bolt-cutters from local cops to open the box - dubbed No. 1 case - before starting duty."

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
"Secrecy is the keystone of all tyranny. Not force, but secrecy ... censorship. When any government, or any church, for that matter, undertakes to say to it's subjects, 'This you may not read, this you must not see, this you are forbidden to know,' the end result is tyranny and oppression, no matter how holy the motives. Mighty little force is needed to control a man whose mind has been hoodwinked; contrariwise, no amount of force can control a free man, a man whose mind is free. No, not the rack, not fission bombs, not anything. You cannot conquer a free man; the most you can do is kill him." --Robert A. Heinlein, "Revolt in 2100" (Pg. 68-69, Baen Books paperback edition, 1999 printing)
