"The first trailer for 'The Hateful Eight,' Quentin Tarantino’s newest shoot-‘em-up, was released earlier this month ... Famous for taking graphic onscreen violence and gore to the extreme, the upcoming Western promises more of the same, with the director explaining it will 'Trap [the characters] together in a room with a blizzard outside, give them guns, and see what happens.' . . ."

"To those who like to watch such films — and ... plenty do — it sounds like another hit, particularly with a cast that includes proven popular stars like Kurt Russell and Samuel L. Jackson. The only thing that doesn’t add up – or perhaps the main thing that does – is seeing that distribution is being handled by The Weinstein Company." ...

"I am a hunter. I don’t apologize for that. I eat meat. I love to eat meat. And I love to hunt. I also love to shoot guns. So I found a sport that allows me to shoot my own food. That said, I hunt for food in various ways. From picking chanterelle and morel mushrooms, to fishing for fresh salmon, to upland bird hunting, to local mule deer and elk, bear and cougar, to the more far flung critters in Southern Africa, and Alaska. To those of you who abhor, dislike, absolutely hate hunting and hunters, take a moment and read a perspective you don’t understand, dislike or hate…maybe you will understand us a little better . . ." ...

How To End The Colorado Magazine Capacity Limits

"There was for a while talk of cutting some sort of deal to increase the magazine capacity allowed by an unconstitutional law. The method was legislative and for a number of reasons I was not in favor of such a move. The most practical reason is that increasing the limit to 30 rounds would negate a fatal weakness in the law as it stands now. That particular flaw is that the magazine capacity limit law interferes with interstate commerce, and thus is unconstitutional. I'll spell it out below the break." ...

ATF May Soon Reclassify Some Machine Guns as “Post Sample” and Non-Transferrable

"When the Hughes Amendment to the National Firearms Act came out, all hell broke loose. May 19th 1986 would be the very last day that anyone could legally register a machine gun, and after that date no individual would be allowed to manufacture a new one. In response the manufacturers put the coals to their production lines, cranking out every last serialized part they could muster and trying to get them registered before the arbitrary cut-off date. According to sources within the ATF it looks like some of those legally registered machine guns may soon be re-classified from their current perfectly legal and transferable status to a 'post sample' status where individuals may no longer posses or transfer them. Here’s the crux ..." ...

The complete incompetence of Brandis dressed up as the usual pompous arrogance was firmly on display here, with Brandis stating 'The government is concerned that lever action rifles are a safety issue'. Never mind the fact that the Winchester Replica 1887 and IAC 7 shot models are still completely legal along with a slew of lever action rifles, none of which have been used in a mass shooting before. In a day and age that rewards risk aversion, Thor is proudly outspoken about his NRA Life membership, his gun ownership and his carrying a firearm for self-defense. Thor doesn’t need to do this to sell his thrillers: His books—including his most recent novel, Code of Conduct ...—regularly reside on The New York Times best-seller lists. He could keep his head down, his mouth shut and not worry about how his support for the Second Amendment might impact his ability to turn his novels into Hollywood productions, for instance. Then he immediately shot Moore in the targets available, Moore’s ankles and feet. Moore is lucky that Price did not follow through with shots to the body. Just because Moore went down, did not mean that he could not shoot. But the shots to the feet were enough."

"When Cody Wilson’s Defense Distributed introduced their 3D-printed one-shot Liberator pistol, all hell broke loose. Anti-gun legislators’ bills to ban 3D-printed guns hit the headlines – but never went anywhere (even in California). Why would they? Not only is it practically impossible to legislate away 3D-printed anything, but the 'problem' of 3D-printed guns doesn’t exist. While we fully expect the controversy to re-ignite when someone does something especially heinous with a 3D-printed firearm, time marches on. The technology continues to improve and ballistic boffins are taking full advantage of the possibilities. 3D-printed AR lower anyone? Another exciting area of development . . ." ...

"By a purely political calculus, the online petition launched this week to outlaw children’s access to automatic weapons has limited prospects. Efforts to rein in the use of automatic weapons by children already failed in two state legislatures last year."

"Sponsoring the petition is the family of Charlie Vacca, the instructor killed one year ago by a 9-year-old New Jersey girl ... when she lost control of an Uzi rifle at a popular Arizona gun range.
