As red-flag laws again take center stage in the statists’ interminable gun control drama, many Second Amendment advocates seem to have dozed off. Objections to red-flag laws have been limited to ex parte hearings and surprise firearm confiscation. But red-flag laws mangle due process in even more violent ways. |

Gun-free zones disarm the good guys but fail to disarm violent murderers. We saw this again in the mass murders last month, but this isn’t a new phenomenon. We see example after example as we look at the history of violent attacks.
Gun-control politicians don’t care about this history of failure and the media never holds gun-control politicians to account. Here are a few of the failures they want us to ignore. |

A man is in critical condition after he was shot by a female homeowner during what Flint police are saying was an attempted break-in.
Officers with the Flint Police Department responded Sunday, Aug. 25 to the 2300 block of Kellar Avenue, between Dayton Street and Welch Boulevard, for a report of shots fired.
An initial investigation by Flint police revealed the man had fled the Kellar Avenue home where he’d attempted to break into a residence and was shot by the homeowner.
The man was later found at a single-vehicle crash near Dayton Street and Brownell Boulevard, less than one mile from the home.
No additional suspects are at large, Flint police said. |

While we all wait around to see whether or not the President is going to cave on gun control legislation, the editorial board at USA Today has published a lengthy screed about the need for moderation in what the Democrats should be asking for. They’re on board with a ban on “assault weapons” (along with extended magazines and other attachments) but they think that a mandatory “buyback” program or other forms of gun confiscation are a bridge too far. Why? Because it would cause people to stiffen their spines and reject the entire package. |

A 93-year-old widow’s death in England last week was the result of a “broken heart” brought on by a nighttime burglary in which three heartless intruders stole a gold chain from around her neck, police said.
“Betty was in good health before this incident but she deteriorated very quickly after it and sadly died in her care home this week, surrounded by her family,” he said.
Submitter's note: Occupied home invasions are the norm in formally great Britain because self defense is illegal. |

A Riverside, California man attending a firearms training class to get his concealed weapons permit was accidentally shot by a Riverside County Sheriff's Department trainer, the department told The Desert Sun.
According to a department news release issued in response to questions from The Desert Sun, gun range staff inspect students' firearms during the course and students are instructed to unload their guns.
The "accidental discharge" is being investigated by both the sheriff's Perris Station staff and the staff at the Ben Clark Training Center.
Submitter's note: Not accidental. Negligent. The guy pointed the gun at the man's leg and pulled the trigger. |

The agents were working at the Los Angeles/Long Beach Seaport when they seized more than 52,000 sights, stocks, muzzles, brakes, buffer kits and grips from China, U.S. Customs and Border Protection announced Thursday.
The seized items were worth more than $378,000 in the U.S.
"There was no attempt to hide the importation," he said.
The gun parts were correctly labeled and still had their original trademarks, he told the news outlet. And items were headed to a legitimate seller and distributor. |

t’s nice when statistics are on your side. When it comes to guns, I think the best statistical evidence shows that guns are, in fact, a force for good. But what if that wasn’t the case? What if it turned out that the statistics showed that permissive gun ownership actually does more harm than good?
Nothing of significance would follow. As valuable as they are, statistics aren’t all that matters. Nor are they even the most important thing we should take into account when making public policy decisions—especially decisions that involve natural rights. |

Shooting a handgun in self-defense situations obviously involves coordination between the eyes and hands of the shooter. This article considers eye dominance and its relationship to pistol accuracy in personal protection. What is not so obvious to shooters is that most of our brains have a strong preference for one eye over the other and that this can change. |

Perhaps we should bow down to our betters on the left with their ever-superior knowledge in how to solve intractable problems such as crime. This is true progress, since there will no longer be criminal roaming the streets, only ‘justice-involved persons’ or ‘persons with a history of substance use’.
This has inspired us to get to work and solve other problems of violence – better known as ‘surprise incidental contact’. So comrades, this is a list of the old, discredited terms and their new sanitized versions in no particular disorder: |
