While economists argue guns versus butter, officials in one American city aim to reduce gun violence by transforming firearms into art.

The City of Minneapolis plans to hold two gun-buyback events this weekend, paying gun owners for unwanted weapons that, in turn, will be given to local artists. The artists will use the guns to create statements about the impact of gun violence.

The objects will appear in a forthcoming exhibit, “Art is My Weapon: A Minnesota Installation of Guns in the Hands of Artists.”

As biased and unscrupulous as the “official” response on the exclusion of John Lott may be, it now appears that some Lott footage made it into the film, but was taken out after Michael Bloomberg allegedly insisted on its removal. According to a recent interview with John Cardillo, “They were going to run it, and Bloomberg and Couric had a private screening and after that screening” the Lott footage was deleted.

ME: Ballot Question 3 Is About Control

CONTROL: To exercise authoritative or dominating influence over others. To regulate.

Question 3 on the 2016 ballot asks, “Do you want to require background checks prior to the sale or transfer of firearms between individuals not licensed as firearms dealers, with failure to do so punishable by law, and with some exceptions for family members, hunting, self-defense, lawful competitions and shooting range activity?”

The phrasing of this question sounds about as innocuous as white on rice, until you read the legislation. What Question 3 would do is make criminals out of law-abiding citizens and strip you of your inalienable rights.

In Omaha, Nebraska police say an intruder was shot after trying to break into a home near Josephine and 70th Streets around 2:15 a.m. Saturday morning.

A man and woman told police they were house-sitting when they woke up to an intruder already inside the home, kicking in the door of the bedroom. One of the house sitters, a 19-year-old male, fired and his bullet struck the intruder, who fled the scene.

In support of Grace is a group of 16 largely red states who filed an amicus brief with the court on August 12. The filing argues the case that 42 states have implemented lenient “shall-issue” practices for granting concealed carry permits and at least five codify the right to carry either openly or concealed without a permit.

...

On the same day [Sept. 20] as the Grace argument, the same three-judge panel will hear the Wrenn v. DC carry rights case brought against the District by the Second Amendment Foundation.

Concealed Carry: Choosing a Backup Gun

Defining the perfect backup gun for concealed carry is a difficult task, but we’re here to give it our best attempt.

Why so difficult? Because “perfect” is so individual and subjective. There are a broad variety of potentially suitable backup guns for concealed carry because there are a broad variety of needs. What’s right for a southwestern Sheriff is far different than what’s right for an undercover Chicago cop, and what’s right for a 2nd Amendment-loving businessman in Dallas is far different from the perfect backup gun for a big game guide in Alaska’s grizzly country.

This past spring [I] spent all day at the state capital yesterday (March 7 2016), testifying on behalf of County Sheriffs of Colorado in favor of five pro-gun/pro Public Safety/pro liberty bills.

All five bills, heard in the House State, Veterans, and Military Affairs committee, were killed, as expected, on a 5 to 4 straight party-line vote. I was aware before I even left home to go testify, that the outcome was likely, however, it is important for there to be an official record of Sheriffs support for such legislation for future consideration.

TX: Injunction Sought Against Texas Campus Carry Denied by Judge

Rebutting the plaintiffs’ Fourteenth Amendment claims, Paxton’s motion explained that the Texas Legislature’s decision to tailor where an individual may exercise their Right-to-Carry on state property is a rational and legitimate exercise of legislative authority. In countering the plaintiffs claim that the campus carry law should be void for vagueness, Paxton pointed out that “countless” other state laws operate in similar fashion.

On August 22, United States District Judge Lee Yeakel denied the professors’ request for a preliminary injunction, ensuring that qualified UT students would be permitted to exercise their Right-to-Carry at the start of the fall semester on August 24.

Donald Trump’s middle son Eric Trump, 32, was asked by Circa News of his love of hunting and shooting, and his defense of the Second Amendment.

“How do we get millennials more interested in gun ownership and Second Amendment issues?” he was asked at about the 1:40 mark.

Clip via Circa News

“People often ask me, ‘Eric, I see so many people of your generation, and so many people that you went to school with that went a very, very different track than you in life.’ They got caught with substance abuse problems, they got caught with drug problems, they went to rehab and I certainly saw that in various peers of mine,” he answered.

During this election season, most campaigns plan to peak in November when their candidate or issue is on the ballot. But one campaign burning up social media is focused on Sept. 14, when the Senate will attempt to override Gov. Jay Nixon’s veto of Senate Bill 656, the “gun bill.”

A coalition of the bill’s opponents have launched an aggressive campaign targeting Republican legislators as they attempt to flip the two votes necessary to sustain the veto.

The opposition coalition includes Moms Demand Action, the Catholic Church and the Missouri Fraternal Order of Police.

Proposition 63 would ban large-capacity ammunition and also require background checks for ammunition purchases. Critics say we don't need it, and bad guys are going to get guns anyway. What do you say?

"I say since 1993, we've seen a 56 percent decline in gun-related deaths in the state because of California's progressive gun safety measures. We've respected the Second Amendment, but we believe in background checks. We've done it for guns, but we haven't done it for ammunition. California would be the first state in the United States to treat ammunition exactly the way we do guns."

An event where the public will get an opportunity to shoot a semi-automatic gun is being criticized by some.

Mike Piwowarski displayed some of the guns that the public will get a chance to shoot for a few dollars, as long as they pass a background check.

"It's a belt-fed weapon. This is the ammunition that goes with it, it shoots roughly 800 rounds a minute."

At another point in the interview Weld characterized commonly-owned semi-automatic firearms and standard-capacity magazines as potential weapons of mass destruction. Displaying a level of ignorance usually attendant to politicians carrying the endorsement of the Brady Campaign, Weld told the interviewer:

The five-shot rifle, that’s a standard military rifle. The problem is if you attach a clip to it so it can fire more shells and if you remove the pin so that it becomes an automatic weapon. And those are independent criminal offenses. That’s when they become essentially a weapon of mass destruction.

In an attempt to draw a contrast with his opponent in a recent ad, Gianforte criticized Bullock for vetoing “three common sense guns rights bills.” The ad, though, didn’t specifically name the proposals, so the Chronicle asked for clarification. The bills below marked with an asterisk are those identified by Gianforte as the “common sense” bills.

HB 533* would have made carrying a concealed weapon without a permit legal, so long as the person did not commit a crime.

HB 298* would have allowed anyone legally owning a handgun to carry it concealed without a permit.

HB 203* would have made it illegal for state and local police to enforce any federal ban on firearms or magazines.

But if the race tightens and Florida has a razor-thin margin, Johnson becomes a crucial player. He's polling at six percent in the state, which is much higher than what Nader received in 2000. The state needs more intensive polling to figure out which candidate Johnson is drawing from.

At the FIU rally, Johnson drew a wide range of Floridians. One supporter said he voted for Mitt Romney in 2012 and Bernie Sanders in this year's primary. Others were former Obama voters who don't trust Clinton, and Republicans who despise Trump. Johnson received his most boisterous cheers for his support of marijuana legalization and second amendment rights. His support is all over the map.

I’ve talked extensively over the years on TV and radio about the lower crime rates in states allowing the Right to Carry and the fact that rapes and murders declined precipitously in Florida following the implementation of the Right to Carry.

If we’re not gonna have that in NJ anytime soon, at the very least we should see a move in the legislature to expedite the process of allowing people who have been victims of domestic violence and facing further threats to their safety.

College senior Julia Dixon stuck a dildo in the side pocket of her backpack as she headed to campus, setting out to conquer her final first day of classes as an undergraduate student. A sex toy might be the last thing you’d expect to see in a college lecture hall, but on Wednesday, August 24, Dixon and thousands of University of Texas students were participating in what some are calling the largest anti-gun protest in Texas history.

“As much fun and hilarious protesting with dildos may be, the issue behind it all is nothing to joke about,” Dixon said.

A gun-rights group trying to unseat U.S. Sen. John McCain in next week's Republican primary says it supports his GOP challenger.

Dr. Kelli Ward is challenging McCain in the August 30 primary, hoping to defeat the longtime senator.

Erich Pratt of Gun Owners of America, which has endorsed Ward, says Ward and McCain are in a "dead heat" after a third GOP candidate dropped out earlier this month.

Echoing that suggestion, a Breitbart story cites a May poll showing Ward tied with McCain in a two-person race.

"So we know that this is going to be very close," he tells OneNewsNow. "We're very optimistic about this race."

Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant is something of a gun enthusiast and wanted to help get the word out about the Magnolia State’s Second Amendment tax free holiday. You know what came next.

The holiday runs from Friday through Sunday and eliminates the state’s normally mandatory 7 percent sales tax on the sale of some firearms, ammunition, archery equipment and hunting supplies. You can find the full list of eligible items here.

West Coast lawmakers have left no stone unturned in their crusade to protect the public from scary gun-like objects as a new law banning the sale or manufacture of phone cases resembling guns was signed Friday.

California Assembly Assistant Majority Leader Jim Cooper, a Sacramento Democrat, introduced the measure in February to change state law to consider a cell phone case that is similar in color and appearance to a gun, to be classified as an imitation firearm, then ban the manufacture or sale of such covers.

The Sea Bears Ogden Fish House has become prosperous as a restaurant that welcomes and practices the open carry of firearms. They have done so well they needed to move to a larger venue. That venue was Union Station in Ogden.

There are four museums at the station. One is the John M. Browning Firearms Museum, another is the Utah State Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum, a third is the Browning Classic Car Museum, and the fourth is the Utah State Railroad Museum. It seems like a good fit.

Over the last decade, the number of individuals obtaining a concealed carry permit has skyrocketed, and that’s a good thing. The concealed carry movement has bolstered support for the Second Amendment, introduced legions of new shooters to the world of firearms and proven that legal gun ownership does not create spikes in crime rates (just the opposite, in fact).

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
Resistance to sudden violence, for the preservation not only of my person, my limbs, and life, but of my property, is an indisputable right of nature which I have never surrendered to the public by the compact of society, and which perhaps, I could not surrender if I would. — JOHN ADAMS
