"That makes Issa’s warning against delay all the more understandable, and further validates claims made over the weekend to this columnist by a past-proven source that there are 'a lot of closed doors' at ATF Headquarters, as Acting Director B. Todd Jones, Deputy Director Thomas E. Brandon, the Chief Counsel’s office and relevant staffers are 'poring' over a report said to be over 400 pages long."

"Perry Stevens was minding his own business when he witnessed an attacker on top of Officer Brian Harrison." ...

"Temple took exception [to being ticketed] and attacked Officer Harrison. Stevens ordered Temple to 'stop and get off the officer.' Temple, who was already wounded once by Harrison, continued his attack, so Stevens shot him four times in the abdomen."

"According to East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s spokesman, Colonel Greg Phares:"
"'He again orders Mr. Temple to stop what he was doing and get off the officer. Those commands are ignored and he fires a fifth shot and that hits his head. The incident is over with, and as you know, Mr. Temple is dead.'"
"... Mr. Stevens has a concealed carry permit." ...

Yup, you guessed it: That 12-year-old and that 9-year-old weren't going to let some bad dude snatch that 7-year-old without a fight. So, according to police spokesman Officer John Chafee, they "grabbed the victim and attempted to pull her away from the suspect, who then released the girl and fled the scene in his vehicle.”

...

Still, as a mom, this makes me think: Maybe I should put my daughter in self-defense classes. Not because I think she'll actually be able to hold her own against a bad-intentioned adult, but because apparently the instinct to fight back can pay off anyway.

This week, more anti-gun bills were sent to Governor Jerry Brown for his consideration.

Assembly Bill 2333 passed in the Assembly by a vote of 45 to 29, Assembly Bill 2460 passed in the state Senate by a vote of 21 to 16 and Senate Bill 1366 also passed in the state Senate by a vote of 22 to 15. Senate Bill 1315 is already awaiting the Governor’s consideration and action. Please contact Governor Jerry Brown and urge him to VETO SB 1315, AB 2333, AB 2460 and SB 1366. Let Governor Brown know these anti-gun bills will do nothing to stop criminal activity and only stop California’s law-abiding citizens from exercising their Second Amendment rights. Governor Jerry Brown can be reached at 916-445-2841 and by e-mail here.

Well, thank goodness in this instance, in this country of 300+ million people there’s also a university official ready and willing to give the sanctimonious professor a “reality check,” so the level-headed students and faculty at the university can put this minor irritant behind them and get on with business.

...“University of Colorado Chancellor Phil DiStefano notified the Boulder campus faculty Tuesday afternoon that professors ‘do not have the right to shut down a class or refuse to teach’ should they learn that one of their students is lawfully carrying a gun under a concealed‑carry permit. And, DiStefano added, any faculty members who do so will be in violation of their contracts and face disciplinary action.”

Fox News, the Washington Post, the L.A. Times, and The Hill are all over this one, as they should be.

It seems that BATFE’s William McMahon, who, as the agency’s Assistant Deputy Director for Field Operations approved its catastrophic and deadly “Fast and Furious” operation, is being allowed to receive his six-figure federal paycheck for nearly half a year, while working full-time as investment bank J. P. Morgan’s executive director for global security and investments in the Philippines.

Sure, in theory the Second Amendment is great—if a government stops representing the will of the people it should get overthrown. But we don’t live in Egypt. We haven’t had anything remotely resembling a dictatorship since this country started. Perhaps we should all cool the jets a bit about the militias and the uprising.

Zimmerman asked a judge this week to stop a subpoena for his medical records. A hearing is set for Friday.

Zimmerman says the request is too broad and will include information that is irrelevant.

The medical information would be made public if it is released to prosecutors under Florida's discovery rules.

Zimmerman is asking that the judge review the medical records and decide which, if any, should be released.

'Not afraid'

Some say they can't believe the gun topic has become an issue.

"You can't suspend someone's civil rights just because a political convention is coming to town," said Alan Gottlieb, chairman of the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms. "Republicans are not afraid of the Second Amendment."

I do understand that there is a difference between owning a rifle for hunting and owning a handgun for self-defense. And while I would never own either, my Christian sensibilities are not as challenged by those who have grown up in a culture of hunting as by those who advocate widespread handgun availability.

Does the .40 S&W Get Enough Credit?

I know it s an abstract question and impossible to quantify, but you know what I mean. The .40 caliber has been in use for more than 20 years. In that time it has been adopted for use by several law enforcement agencies, most notably the F.B.I. If the feds think it the the ideal round for their needs, why don't the rest of us?

I think it is an interesting question. We usually cotton to government standards when it comes to firearms. Look at the lingering obsession with the .357, or our love of all things 1911, or the popularity of the AR-15. Why not the .40?

Edelman spends a good bit of time talking about mass shootings, invoking not just Aurora but also Columbine, Virginia Tech, and a host of others. After all, we must prevent these horrible events.

I don’t think anyone believes that these events aren’t horrible. However, I want to point out some things to Edelman. After all, she is writing from a position of emotion, rather than actual facts.

The estimated total number of guns held by civilians in the United States is 270,000,000. Cody Wilson's invention could increase that number.

Wilson wants to create a gun users can make at home. More specifically, he wants to create the world’s first printable gun that can be downloaded via the Internet and built using a 3-D printer, according to Forbes' Andy Greenberg.

...

“We want to show this principle: That a handgun is printable,” the 24-year-old University of Texas law student told Forbes. “You don’t need to be able to put 200 rounds through it…It only has to fire once. But even if the design is a little unworkable, it doesn’t matter, as long as it has that guarantee of lethality.”

It’s time for all Americans to ban together to stem the tide of automatic weapons in this country; gun advocates, not the opposition, should lead this effort. The NRA has effectively retained the right to bear arms and now its time for them to give something back to society that really serves no purpose to them.
