West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey is leading a 21-state coalition in urging the U.S. Supreme Court to defend the rights of gun owners in West Virginia and beyond. The coalition intends to file a brief Friday asking the Supreme Court to hear arguments against, and ultimately strike down, a Maryland weapons ban. It argues the ban infringes on the rights of legal gun owners as it prohibits the sale, transfer and possession of certain semiautomatic firearms and standard-capacity magazines.

Texans will soon have more open-carry weapon options. House Bill 1935, which was approved by state lawmakers in the spring and signed by Gov. Greg Abbott, goes into effect Friday and allows adults to openly carry weapons with blades over 5.5 inches in length. This includes Bowie knives, machetes and swords. State Rep. John Frullo, R-Lubbock, authored the bill, which has been a passion project of his for years. |

As Derrick Johnson assumes the role of interim president of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), leaders of the nation’s oldest Black civil rights organization say that young people must come first. Youth-led civil rights groups like Color of Change, Black Youth Project 100 and Dream Defenders have effectively used technology and social media to advance their causes online and around the world, while critics of the NAACP question the group’s relevancy, as it struggles to connect to a younger generation that doesn’t always relate to the battles of Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s.

It was just a short, simple gripe on social media. “As a Republican in college, I am genuinely afraid to speak about my conservative views in fear of being stereotyped or labeled negatively.” Michelle Shampton, a sophomore at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana, said that in a tweet on March 17. It took a few days, but after a handful of retweets and replies, the tweet began to snowball.

The question of whether judges should be armed got renewed attention this week after an Ohio judge who was carrying a gun was shot outside his courthouse and fired back. Jefferson County Judge Joseph Bruzzese is recovering from the shooting Monday in Steubenville, along the Ohio River roughly 30 miles (48 kilometers) west of Pittsburgh.

In a series of videos constituting a campaign for truth, the NRA is making clear it is out to expose the violent tendencies of liberal elitists and to defeat those elitists at the ballot box and in the public arena of ideas. The pivot toward elites represents a marked shift in the NRA’s Second Amendment strategy, as it means they have moved from simply fighting anti-gun legislation to fighting the talking heads, the academicians, and the wealthy, erudite leftists who pump ideas into legions of gullible anti-gunners.

On Sept. 1, a new campus carry law passed this year will go into effect, and the superintendent of a school that has had guns on campus for four years now offered a few lessons from his own experience. Colleges across Arkansas are preparing for when those with an enhanced concealed carry permit will be able to bring their firearms on campus, and though the law goes into effect next month, it'll likely be 2018 before guns show up at universities.

A push to allow Hoosiers to carry handguns without a license was the focus of a nearly five-hour committee hearing at the statehouse Tuesday. "Constitutional carry" is based on the idea that the Second Amendment already gives people the right to carry a handgun, so additional steps such as licensing are unnecessary.
