The man was trying to rob the store when the lone employee inside -- who has a permit to carry a firearm -- fired at the would-be robber multiple times, striking him.
Police said the would-be robber was pronounced dead at the scene minutes later.
No other injuries were reported and the weapon was recovered, according to police.
Submitter's note: This is the only thing that keeps criminals in check. They sure do not fear the police and criminal justice system. |

Writing at Cincinnati.com Monday, a pair of Republican congressmen explain the problems with Capitol Hill gun control efforts, from not reading legislation to passing measures that will not prevent crimes, raising the most important question of all: Do devout anti-gunners even care?
Judging from a couple of reader reactions to a gun control story in the Morning Call, a newspaper founded in 1883 in Pennsylvania’s Lehigh Valley, probably not. Indeed, it is instructional to read such comments in an effort to get inside the mind of an ardent gun prohibitionist. |

Following through on a new law that Gov. J.B. Pritzker signed in January, the Illinois State Police published a set of proposed new regulations requiring gun dealers in Illinois to comply with stricter security and record keeping requirements. That law, however, is being challenged in Sangamon County Circuit Court by the Illinois State Rifle Association and a number of gun dealers in the state who argue it’s an unconstitutional infringement on their right to keep and bear arms. |

Matthew Sanders and his 3-year-old son, Huxley, were walking on a narrow trail on the edge of Anchorage’s Kincaid Park on Thursday when the boy turned a corner and ran into two moose in tall grass.
But things turned quickly. Sanders yelled. The boy froze. The cow moose charged.
The Anchorage father says he was able to get between his son and the moose and pull a .44 Magnum from a chest holster. By then the moose was so close “all I could see was its nostrils and hairs,” Sanders later recounted in a Facebook post.
Sanders says he shot the moose, which ran into a thicket of horsetail and cow parsnip at the trail’s edge.
Then cow charged again, according to Sanders. This time the father, holding his 3-year-old, fired three shots.

Banned by the major social media platforms, the 3D-printed gun community migrated this summer to less-trafficked corners of the Internet. But the most provocative proponent of homemade firearms, Deterrence Dispensed, hasn’t given up just yet: On July 31, its de facto leader, an online anarchist who calls himself IvanTheTroll, set up an account on Tumblr, the niche microblogging site. Deterrence Dispensed is now using Tumblr to post weekly updates, and share updates to gun construction, including blueprints to print weapons at home. |

A gun buyback program is in the works for the City of San Antonio. Two members of the San Antonio City Council are recommending the voluntary program but San Antonio’s police chief is against the idea. The proposal calls for using money from the police department’s asset forfeiture fund to pay people who bring in guns. The plan would buy guns from anyone, not just San Antonio residents. The plan also suggests to melt the guns that are brought in. |

David Hogg has a rather odd demand if he gets assassinated. Yeah, talk about some light talk, huh folks? The anti-gun activist who rose to national prominence for pushing gun control after the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Parkland, Florida wants his decorated body to be sent to the steps of the National Rifle Association…because they would be the ones responsible for his death or something. The March for Our Lives co-founder has gone under the radar in recent months, but he, along with Emma Gonzalez and Cameron Kasky, saw one of the biggest surges in gun control activism since Newtown. And once again, the NRA was the Left’s favorite boogeyman. |
Soft Point Cutting Edge Ammo: SPCE Bullets Explained

The soft point cutting edge bullet (SPCE) is essentially a modified semi-jacketed bullet that’s been designed to expand in a very controlled fashion. Unlike a standard soft-point or hollow point where the core is often bonded with the casing, this bullet doesn’t lock the lead core in completely. Some call it “water bottle” ammo, because the point of the bullet is vaguely designed similar to a pet hamster’s water bottle. The core isn’t bonded to the casing, allowing a different style of expansion and penetration. |

Walther created the modern, semi-automatic, concealed handgun market with the introduction of its model PP (Polizeipistole) in 1929, followed one year later by the classic PPK. In 2014, the company updated the concept with the introduction of its “Concealed Carry Pistol” or CCP. The result falls in size right between the smallest of single-stacks and the mid-size double-stack 9 mm Lugers, making it well-suited for inside-the-waistband or shoulder-holster carry. |
