It is scandalous when millions of us are put at risk by bad government policy. Likewise, it is vitally important to recognize when we’re doing the right thing and saving thousands of lives every day. This is hard to understand because some of the problem is political, but some of the difficulty is simply the size of our virtue.
Ordinary citizens like us legally use a firearm in self-defense about 2.8-million times a year. Sure, that is a number, but how big is that really? |

Saturday, Aug. 26, marked the 49th anniversary of the founding of the Second Amendment Foundation, an organization which has become a powerhouse in firearms rights litigation, with significant victories all over the map, including a landmark Supreme Court ruling in 2010, McDonald v. City of Chicago.
“As the saying goes,” noted SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan M. Gottlieb, “we’ve come a long way, but we still have a long way to go in our mission to win firearms freedom one lawsuit at a time.”

President Joe Biden (D) has a long history as a “warrior” against the users of illegal drugs. In 1989, in a televised speech, Biden criticized then-President George H. W. Bush (R) for having taken an approach that, per Biden, was “not tough enough, bold enough or imaginative enough” for his tastes. “What we need,” Biden said, “is another D-Day, not another Vietnam, not a limited war, fought on the cheap.” |

The United States is the single largest civilian firearm market in the world. A recent Gallup poll found that 45% of Americans have a gun in their home. And many of those households have more than one, as the U.S. is the only country with more privately-owned guns than people. |

Bernalillo County resident Thomas Solomon recalled having a bear break into his house on the western slope of the Sandia Mountains about a month ago in search of food in the form of bird seed. “He could smell (the bird feeders) in the kitchen where we put them overnight,” Solomon said during a New Mexico Game Commission meeting on Friday in Raton. “He ripped open the window, came in, trashed our kitchen, left his scat on the floor.”

Alabama-based Steyr Arms USA has been teasing short runs of hard-to-find extended barrel assemblies for the iconic AUG bullpup carbine. The modern 24-inch heavy barrel (HBAR) format, offered in addition to 16- and 20-inch barrels, was discontinued in 2020. Outfitted with an integral folding bipod, it is a throwback to the old LMG version of the AUG that was used with an extended 42-round waffle mag and, while it won't turn your standard Austrian-made commercial bullpup into a select-fire lord of war, it does up the velocity on a 55-grain 5.56 NATO round to the 3,280 feet-per-second region, which has its own neato properties.
