An expansion is moving forward for the Hampden-Sydney shooting range. The college’s Board of Trustees late last week signed off on the project, giving it the final approval needed before construction could take place.
Part of what encouraged trustees was the alumni-led fundraising campaign, which collected $825,000 in the last few months. Also, school officials promised to use any funds remaining after construction to set up an endowment fund, which will help pay for the range’s ongoing operations and maintenance. Also, extra dollars will be set aside to help support the college’s outdoor education program.

The Massachusetts Supreme Court ruled Tuesday the state’s ban on carrying switchblade knives violates the Second Amendment. The case is Commonwealth v. David E. Canjura.
Canjura was arrested on July 3, 2020, and a search of his person uncovered a knife “with a spring-assisted blade.” He was charged with “carrying a dangerous weapon,” among other charges, but challenged the constitutionality of the switchblade carry ban “in a pretrial motion to dismiss.” |

Of all the firsts in my life, one in particular not only ignited a deep-seated passion but also would be the beginnings of my career. I set out to purchase my first firearm years ago back home in the deep South. After weeks of scraping and saving at my summer job as a landscaper in the hot Alabama sun, I was determined to get my first rifle. I actually did not grow up with guns, as my mother did not want them in the house. But coming into manhood in the south, it was almost a rite of passage to get one’s first firearm.

The U.S. Army has been shopping for a new "Individual Assault Munition" for a couple of years, and a Swedish company with lots of experience in that sort of thing got the nod on Tuesday. Saab, which has its U.S. subsidiary in East Syracuse, New York, was awarded a $494,350,000 firm-fixed-price contract for the IAM program's XM919. The five-year award, issued by the Army Contracting Command in Newark, New Jersey, came after an open bidding process last October that saw three bids submitted.
