Well it’s not exactly lemonade but it’ll do. Christopher Carr’s twelve-year-old stepson had set up a smoothie and green-tea stand near their house when they moved back to the States after the earthquake in Japan. ...
“The police told me to pack up and go home,” he said. Or, more accurately I discovered after making a few phone calls, the town police swung by and wished him good luck, and then afterwards, “someone in brown” came by and made my stepson stop selling drinks at the end of our street, because this required a permit, and my stepson did not have a permit to sell drinks.

Cason, 22, challenged the ticket and won. A lawsuit filed this week claims that 2,900 motorists were ticketed — illegally — in Florida for the same thing from 2005 to 2010.
An Oviedo law firm — the same one that persuaded a Seminole County judge to toss Cason's ticket — is asking a judge in Tallahassee to bar Florida cops from writing tickets when motorists flash their headlights.

Look, I dislike guns. I dislike them a lot. I don’t believe that people kill people, rather that guns – the objects from which projectiles are discharged at a high rate of velocity, thereby permitting them to enter the bodies of individuals, causing fatal damage to bodily organs – kill people. I’d rather there weren’t any, or at the very least, we had stringent gun control laws.
But do you know what I dislike more? Stupid laws and even stupider interpretation of laws that criminalize perfectly legal conduct. Somehow, despite my strict personal opposition to guns, it is still legal to carry a licensed firearm in Connecticut. In public. Openly. |

“I would like to publicly thank him for his vigilance and his heroic effort. He has been a great neighbor,” Manchester firefighter and Local 856 President Ryan J. Cashin told this paper last week. Then he remembered his union buddies in the police department.
“That being said, the great city of Manchester should not have to rely on our neighbors for public safety,” he said. “Public safety is not arming our citizens with guns and garden hoses.”
Sure it is. The police can’t be everywhere, which is a fact exploited by thugs, punks and thieves all the time. The fact is that people do rely on each other for public safety, which is why an armed citizenry is a net public benefit. |

Local law enforcement officials in support of Gov. John Lynch’s veto of a bill that would allow citizens to use deadly force in self-defense with civil immunity say they’re not only satisfied with the current law, but are concerned the new bill would produce unintended consequences.
SB 88, which would allow a person to use deadly force to protect themselves or a third party and face civil immunity in certain circumstances, was vetoed earlier this year by Lynch, who has been vocal in his view that the bill would make the job of law enforcement more difficult. |

We're not objecting, mind you.
Not to begin with, anyway. Those governments and scores more just like them throughout Florida are merely complying, finally, with a law passed in 1987 that until now they've done their best to ignore.
A law that gave the state the exclusive right to regulate firearms, but which cities and counties didn't honor because the law didn't assign penalties to governments that violated it.
Hence we got local ordinances that banned guns in parks. In government buildings. And, more broadly even, on public lands. |

A new law is changing concealed carry, tax and training rules in Missouri.
Trainees will have to fire 70 rounds with both a revolver and a semi-automatic weapon to get a concealed carry permit.
The changes will also lower the legal concealed carry age from 23 to 21 in Missouri. |

Loyal readers know that I have been calling attention to a range of Second Amendment issues in the past week. In last week's column here, I wrote about the scandals and illegitimate regulations emanating from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco Firearms and Explosives. In another outlet, I documented the threat to our rights that is posed by the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty.
In response, I have heard from many readers who are understandably outraged. They want our federal law enforcement agencies to respect the law, not break it. They want our negotiators at the U.N. to protect our unique constitutional rights – not surrender them to some utopian vision of global harmony. And they feel powerless. |

Ken is referring to a new state law that says employers may not prohibit employees or customers from having lawfully possessed firearms locked inside their private vehicles in a parking lot.
Exceptions include schools and correctional facilities. The bill also includes this exception:
“Any other property owned or leased by a public or private employer or the landlord of a public or private employer upon which possession of a firearm … is prohibited under any federal law, contract with a federal governmental entity or other law of this state.” |

The Mother’s Day shooting of a grizzly bear near Porthill, Idaho’s northernmost town, has grown into the latest endangered species political circus in Idaho.
Jeremy Hill shot a 2-year-old male grizzly that appeared to be going after his pigs. His kids were outside playing at the time.
Hill pleaded not guilty by self-defense in federal court last week to the misdemeanor charge of killing a species protected by the Endangered Species Act. The trial is set for Oct. 4.
First, residents of Boundary County raised more than $19,000 for his defense and filled the federal court to show support. Then Gov. Butch Otter weighed in on Hill’s behalf. |

More than 75 people came to Belle Isle on Sunday with guns and grills to raise awareness of a law to openly carry firearms.
Organized by Rick Ector, a gun safety instructor and a gun rights advocate, the event was meant to inform the public about the law, he said.
"What we're talking about is law-abiding citizens exercising this right to carry arms," said Ector, 43.

I would like to contribute a few words about the scandal that has erupted with reference to the guns that were intentionally allowed to go to illegal persons in the United States and Mexico.
I have a totally different take on this malignantly stupid, dumb, idiotic, ill-conceived and lethal plan. From the available evidence, it may well have played a part in the death of two U.S. Border Patrol agents. |

He says he was asleep inside his home when he heard someone breaking in. He grabbed his flashlight and a gun.
"I confronted the guy and he told me he had a gun. He came at me with a gun,” said Fitzsimmons.
The homeowner told police he confronted the man in the garage and it moved to the back of the house. He says the man cornered him, threatening his life with a gun. Within minutes, Fitzsimmons says it was all over.
"I told him to drop it, backed up shot him, killed him."
The Town of Oconomowoc police say the man Fitzsimmons killed is James Babe IV, 39, of Waukesha. According to state court records, Babe is a life registered sex offender with a lengthy criminal history, including burglary. |

Nobody should be surprised if the Sedgwick County Commission overrules District Attorney Nola Foulston and allows concealed guns at some of the 83 buildings the county owns or leases, or if other Kansas counties follow its lead. Commissioners need to be choosy about where firearms do and don’t belong, though, better accommodating citizens’ gun rights without compromising public safety.
At the request of Commissioner Richard Ranzau, county staff has drawn up a list of 45 county sites that might newly allow concealed-carry permit holders to bring in their guns. The commission is expected to consider the list at Wednesday’s meeting. |

A SHOP in the heart of Horsham selling imitation firearms and smoking paraphernalia has come under fire.
Street Value has a prime site in West Street but Horsham district councillor Laurence Deakins (Con, Denne) told the County Times: “It’s not appropriate for Horsham high street, it’s completely out of character with the town.
“I think it’s glorifying guns and sending out the completely wrong message to the youth of Horsham.’’

Discussions about a rifle range in eastern Jerome County are underway yet again.
The Jerome County Commissioners are looking at possibly opening up a range three miles west of the Jerome Minidoka county line.
But, this proposal is worrying people who live in the area.
The Carneys own an organic straw field being a farmer is something they pride themselves on.
But, their farm life may soon be disturbed.
