"If that's true, the scarcity of comments, on the 'pro-deal' pieces, bringing gun owners information they have not heard before, leads to the disturbing conclusion that the pro-gun community just doesn't care that much about what happens to JPFO one way or the other, leading back to an observation I made in my first Gun Rights Examiner piece: 'The inescapable conclusion is, had gun owners stepped up and supported a group struggling after the passing of its founder, its rescue would have been unneeded.'" |

"In other words, someone who says she wants more laws to protect innocents recommends victimizing innocents and breaking the law. And the pathetic thing is, her enthusiasm for criminal acts is tame compared to two 'common sense gun safety advocates' who think that 'SWATting' gun owners by calling 911 and reporting armed threats in the store, upping the chances of “gun violence” and potentially getting innocent people killed, is the appropriate way to deal with citizens who are peaceably open carrying." |

In earlier posts, I outlined the difference between elitist and populist versions of originalism, and noted that Justice Antonin Scalia seems to prefer a populist approach, under which the text of the Constitution should be interpreted as understood by ordinary readers at the time of enactment, rather than as understood by legal experts. Legal scholars Michael Rappaport and Michael Ramsey suggest that Scalia’s position on this issue may be internally inconsistent (Rappaport) or that Scalia did not really mean to endorse a populist approach to originalism at all. |

We’ve seen this game before: As recently as 1980’s, California was represented by a conservative Republican: S.I. Hayakawa.
After President Reagan signed Simpson-Mazzoli, legalizing 3,000,000 illegal immigrants concentrated in California, the state couldn’t destroy the Second Amendment fast enough. Now, California has authorized $24,000,000 to send SWAT teams around the state to seize people’s guns. |

The New Orleans Times-Picayune reported this week that an increase in justifiable homicides this year has coincided with a continuing drop in the city’s murder rate. Data seems to bolster the common refrain among pro-gun advocates who contend that an armed populace is the best deterrent again criminal threats.
So far in 2014, authorities have ruled seven New Orleans deaths justifiable homicides, more than twice the number recorded in all of 2013. Meanwhile, murders in the city continue to drop for the third straight year. |

Language summing up the idea the petition puts forward leans on the notion that restrictions to a driver’s right to carry are hindrances to interstate commerce: “Once an American citizen leaves his home state and engages in ‘interstate commerce,’ his ability to carry a firearm and guard the shipment is at the mercy of other states that may or may not choose to grant reciprocity to their home state. Instead, American citizens should be protected under federal law pursuant to the Interstate Commerce clause and in the spirit of the Second Amendment. |

Many residents and business owners took over Winchester Hall in Frederick for a public hearing, fired up over the possibility of a firing range coming to the area.
They said it will be too noisy, that’s why they’re making their voices heard.
“We have a beautiful, rural, tranquil atmosphere here and this will completely disrupt it. It's the camel’s nose under the tent for massive changes in the Sugarloaf area. We say no to this shooting range, a thousand times no,” said Robin Ficker.

A new Facebook page is challenging supporters of the Second Amendment to use their wallets to back their beliefs.
"We have to decide whether or not that's a place we want to spend our money," Steve Ellis, owner of Top Guns Gun Store said.
Ellis launched the "No Guns = No Money" support page just last week.
"Basically what we're saying is choose to spend your money in places that are more second amendment friendly," Ellis said.
The page lets people know what area businesses ban guns. |

Washington State backers of Initiative 591, which prohibits gun confiscation without due process and requires background checks to comply with a uniform national standard, will begin airing advertisements for their measure on Monday, the Associated Press is reporting today.
The advertisement will stress the fact that I-591 is supported by rank-and-file law enforcement and two of the state’s largest and most respected law enforcement organizations, the Washington Council of Police and Sheriffs (WACOPS) and Washington State Law Enforcement Firearms Instructors Association (WSLEFIA). Seven county sheriffs are also supporting the measure. |
