Secretary of State Colin Powell said on Wednesday he was working hard to secure $582 million from Congress to pay this year's U.S. arrears to the United Nations before President Bush addresses the U.N. General Assembly in New York in September. U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan said on Tuesday that U.N. member states would be "baffled" and Washington would undermine its effectiveness at the United Nations if it does not pay the money ahead of the speech. |

"Senators voted 65-33 against a proposal by Sen. Charles Schumer (D-NY), to provide $15 million for the program, created less than two years ago by President Clinton. The Bush administration announced last month that it was ending the program, saying there was no proof that it was taking guns from criminals." |

To the Editor -- Telling women under violent assault to "carry a cellular phone", "drive with car doors locked" and "scream 'fire' to get the attention of others" is all well and good; but NOTHING will put an instant end to a violent sexual assault faster or with more certainty than a gun pointed in Mr.Rapist's face.
I implore you to alert your female readers to the fact that they CAN get good training, they CAN get themselves handguns, and they CAN safely and effectively quell attacks -- WITH GUNS.

The anti-gun/self-defense government declared all arms to be illegal as "offensive weapons", and are basing all decisions on one faction (IRA) turning in their guns.
Here is another example of what happens when the only legal holders of firearms are the police. It's inevitable that miscreants will find and use "Illegal Guns", and worse, bombs, which kill innocents indiscriminately.

Gov. Gray Davis signed a measure Tuesday expanding prosecution of adult gun owners if children bring their weapons to school.
Under the bill, an adult gun owner could be prosecuted if a 16- or 17-year-old brings the adult's gun to school. Current law imposes possible jail time or fines on gun-owning adults if a child younger than 16 brings a gun to school and injures someone. |

Here is another example of media bias. The firearm used in the incident is described only as a "semi-automatic weapon", a media buzzword implying the gun is one of those evil, nasty "assault weapons". In fact, the media use this term to describe any rifle or pistol capable of firing over 8 or so rounds, military lookalike or not, and don't think they do this by accident...
KABA NOTE: In fact, the media so often confuse the different types of firearms, it could have even been a double-action revolver for all we know. |
