"I've come by because, first, I love to hunt and fish... Secondly, because I heard you're expanding the job base here... We stand for the Second Amendment, which gives every American the individual right to bear arms. I've got a record on that issue. It stands in stark contrast to my opponent."
------- Yes, you've got a record there, sir. You support the unconstitutional "assault" weapons ban. You claim to support all of the unconstitutional laws on the books and want to enforce them. You want to increase the minimum age for gun ownership to 21. And you have not lifted a finger to encourage the Supreme Court to hear a Second Amendment case. Quite a record. |

"The Supreme Court agreed Monday to settle whether long-standing federal rules for sentencing criminals violate the Constitution, a question that has thrown federal courthouses into disarray this summer."
"The high court said it will hear two cases suggested by the Bush administration. The Justice Department had rushed the appeals just weeks after the court ruled major portions of a state sentencing system unconstitutional." ...
"The Bush administration is defending the federal sentencing system, usually known as the sentencing guidelines. The guidelines give judges a range of possible punishments for a given crime, and make it difficult for judges to go outside those boundaries." |

"I look at the assault weapons ban kind of like the teacher you had in grade school who, after getting hit in the back of the head with a spit ball, made the entire class stay after school. Everyone was punished for the actions of one. While it's true that there have been some horrific, terrible crimes against people committed with these weapons in this country, do we punish everyone for the actions of a few?" |

"It’s not the criminal’s fault, he killed because somebody sold him an 'assault rifle.' So goes the thinking expressed recently in an absurd editorial in the Wilmington, NC Star-News."
"A young women student at the University of North Carolina-Wilmington was shot 11 times by a deranged, convicted felon; a former boyfriend she rejected. Later, in western North Carolina her killer shot himself and died when his truck crashed in a mountain ravine. The gun, wrote the editor, 'allowed him to take two young lives.' "
"The gun allowed . . .? The gun didn’t permit anything. Guns are inanimate objects—cold steel, until someone chooses to heat them up. They can be used for good or evil. ..." |

"The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA) today chided Wal-Mart for giving into pressure from city officials in New Haven, Conn., and agreeing to stop the sale of firearms, bowhunting equipment and paintball guns at its store, scheduled to open this month." ...
" 'It's widely known,' Waldron said, 'that gun rights are sacred in the South, where Wal-Mart is headquartered, so the store managers in New Haven are as wrong about their decision as Jackson is about Wal-Mart, and about the Second Amendment. Jackson needs to be reminded that the right to keep and bear arms is as much an individual civil right as voting or attending the church of your choice.' " |

Democrat presidential candidate John Kerry need only turn his attention to the National High Power Rifle championships being held this month at Camp Perry, Ohio to observe the legitimate use of semiautomatic rifles, a use that seems to elude him and other gun control proponents, the Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) said today.
" 'There's no better place than Camp Perry for Mr. Kerry to see hundreds, if not thousands, of registered shooters and spectators, participating in a registered competition with the kinds of legitimate firearms for which anti-gunners claim there is no legitimate use,' said SAF Founder Alan Gottlieb. 'Camp Perry is the World Series of shooting competitions, attracting dedicated marksmen from across the nation. After visiting Camp Perry, nobody could honestly claim there are no legitimate uses for the firearms that would be affected by legislation Mr. Kerry and so many of his colleagues support.' " |
