"Gun violence has become an alarming problem throughout this country, and members of the Joliet Police Department are committed to eliminating weapons from the streets of our city," Gerdes said.

Joliet has now disposed of more than 3,400 weapons since 1989, said Cmdr. James Grace. Handguns accounted for more than 2,600 of those weapons, he said.

A guy in California is marketing kits to converty AR-15's to try to get around SB23.

The fact that people have to scurry around and behave as if they were criminals...simply for owning militia rifles...is starting to make me think American Revolution Version 2.0 is very, very close now.

Gore's new, muted approach to guns reflects a sensible awareness of political reality. The reality is based not just on what Gore's internal polls on guns must be showing; a realistic approach to gun politics must also take account of the history of one of the greatest Democratic debacles in presidential history — the 1988 Dukakis campaign.

George Bush as an extremist, a pawn of the National Rifle Association who recklessly endangered people by signing a concealed handgun law. Gore has gone as far as linking Bush's signing that legislation to last year's fatal shooting at a Fort Worth church.
