Andrew Henderson built a mostly plastic gun from a 3-D printer, which he reinforced with a block of steel.

The gun took him about seven hours to create on borrowed, high-tech equipment.

“This is a very primitive gun, single shot, spring pistol,” he said, showing the weapon to Fox 9. “That’s pretty much it. There’s nothing special about this firearm.”

Henderson figures that he will only be able to shoot the gun once. Now, it’s a showpiece he keeps locked away.

Gun rights advocates have filed a second legal challenge over Vermont's new gun restrictions.

In April, the Vermont Federation of Sportsmen’s Clubs and other groups filed a lawsuit asking that an injunction be placed on implementation of S.55, Vermont’s new gun control law, and that the court declare the new law unconstitutional.

Several members of the Supreme Court have expressed their frustration on this topic. In 2015, Scalia joined Justice Clarence Thomas’ dissent from the denial of certiorari in Friedman v. Highland Park, a case challenging a local ban on commonly owned semi-automatic firearms. In a 2016 concurrence to a per curiam decision in Caetano v. Massachusetts addressing the Massachusetts Supreme Court’s willful misapplication of Heller, Justice Samuel Alito implored the court to take action to defend its Second Amendment precedents. In 2017, Justice Neil Gorsuch joined Thomas’ dissent from the denial of certiorari in Peruta v. California, a case challenging California’s discretionary carry licensing scheme.

What do you believe the best home defense firearm to have is?

A pistol? A rifle? A shotgun?

If you had to respond to a loud crash downstairs, which type of gun would you bring?

Many people would likely answer with a shotgun, and with good reason. It’s reliable and it’s devastating in close quarters. Other people would likely answer with a semi-automatic rifle like the AR-15. Yet others would say a pistol or revolver, which is much more wieldy in narrow spaces.

He got his gun and walked to the front of his house, Fumbanks said, and as he was heading to the neighbor’s house, he saw the man the neighbors described.

“He was in their front yard coming toward my front yard at a high rate of speed,” Fumbanks said. “He was cussing, waving his arms, coming right to me; he was in my yard. I gave a warning shot; I shot into the ground and he stopped. He walked into the street and headed toward the end of the street, and a little bit later, the police showed up and caught him.”

Keith Williams fatally shot Brock Earnest, both sides agreed at the start of Williams’ murder trial Wednesday.

But was it cold-blooded murder, or an act of self-defense by a physically intimidated man being threatened in his own home?

In the wake of another mass shooting in a place that was to be a gun-free zone, some gun rights advocates want either armed security provided, or to let people conceal carry so they can protect themselves.

"You walk into a gun-free zone, you're walking into a killing zone," Craig Schnieder said.

He has spent over four decades as a law enforcement officer and has taught hundreds of people gun safety, concealed carry and self defense courses.

"The gun-free zone is not working. Everyone of these of these shootings are gun-free zones," Schnieder said.

Neither Wagner or Raimondo had any statistics as to how many concealed guns are carried into schools. But Raimondo said part of the anxiety she had heard from teachers since the Parkland shooting was that they didn’t know if other teachers were carrying weapons into their schools.

The directive is meant as a temporary measure until the General Assembly passes similar legislation, the governor said.

She said Rhode Island was one of only a handful of states that allowed non-law enforcement officials to carry concealed weapons into schools.

Alarmed by a string of mass shootings by young people, California lawmakers on Wednesday sent the governor a bill that would raise the minimum age for buying long guns in the state from 18 to 21.

Democratic Sen. Anthony Portantino said his bill would address concerns raised by incidents including the February shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., in which a 19-year-old is accused of using an AR-15-style semiautomatic rifle to kill 17 students and school employees.

The bill was opposed by pro-gun groups, such as the National Rifle Association (NRA).

“Passing a law that makes it illegal for a 20-year-old to purchase a shotgun for hunting or an adult single mother from purchasing the most effective self-defense rifle on the market punishes the law-abiding citizens for the evil acts of criminals,” Daniel Reid, the California state director of the NRA Institute for Legislative Action, wrote in a letter to legislators.

Here in Canada, the powers that be deem gun ownership a privilege, not a right. The terms God-given or unalienable might as well be stricken from the Canadian lexicon, as only the government leviathan, in all of their supreme wisdom and knowledge, can confer rights upon the masses.

For example, it is illegal for pretty much everybody, even those who have gone through the onerous process of obtaining a Possession and Acquisition License (PAL), to carry a concealed firearm for self-defense purposes in Canada. Moreover, it is also dubious whether a Canadian, even within one’s own house, could shoot a home intruder without being arrested, forced to spend copious amounts of money to defend oneself, and potentially serve jail time.

In Madureira, which is surrounded by sometimes almost lawless favelas and where residents live with the constant danger of gunfire, Bolsonaro’s pitch for looser gun control to allow self-defense met with particular approval.

“Guns don’t feed violence, just as flowers don’t bring peace,” Bolsonaro said, responding to critics who say that flooding society with even more guns will only increase the bloodshed.

Charges have been dropped against an Alabama man accused of killing a 4 year-old girl. A judge ruled he fired at the car the girl was inside in self-defense.

Al.com reports Darrell Montez Hutton, a 34-year-old Birmingham man, was charged with murder for the July 2017 killing of 4-year-old Taleayah Stafford.

Authorities say a passenger in the car with Stafford, Anthony Fowler, pulled a gun on Hutton before Hutton returned fire. The little girl was struck in the head with a bullet fragment and died three days later.

A Jefferson County circuit judge ordered the charges against Hutton dismissed Tuesday, saying he was justified in defending himself.

But Peraza attorney Eric Schwartzreich said the “stand your ground” law applies to “any person.”

“Under any reasonable definition of the English language, a law-enforcement officer is a person,” Schwartzreich said. “Law-enforcement officers are people too.”

The Supreme Court typically takes months to issue rulings after hearing arguments in cases. They asked repeated questions of both attorneys during Tuesday’s hearing, appearing skeptical at times of the arguments by the attorney general’s office.

Gillum’s agenda squares with Sanders, such as “Medicare for all, a $15-an-hour minimum wage and staunch opposition to the Stand Your Ground self-defense law.”

One woman, Bernadette Albury, told The New York Times that many of the other candidates “focused on negative views of Trump and to be honest, that’s not relevant to Florida.” It also shows that Florida Democrats are sick of their party “nominating cautious, centrist candidates who have tried and failed to appeal to Republicans in the November election.”

"This case," he added, "goes right to the heart of the right of a citizen to choose appropriate arms for self-defense and other lawful purposes. As our brief explains, the high court has emphasized twice that the Second Amendment protection is not limited only to weapons useful in warfare, nor does that fact that a particular firearm might have military utility deprive it of Second Amendment protection.

"Because the law includes an exemption for law enforcement and retired law enforcement," he added, "clearly demonstrates that these arms are suitable for self-defense because all arms carried by law enforcement are for defensive purposes."

In rural, unincorporated Harper, which doesn’t have a city police force, and only county law enforcement presence, Harper Independent School District took school safety of its students and staff into its own hands.

“When we started studying and looking at what the risk factors were, the first and at the top of the list was how easily accessible our campuses were to anyone driving through the community,” Harper ISD Superintendent Chris Stevenson said. “We were concerned about the length of time it would take if we had a major problem here. We were looking into ways we could respond here at the district should a violent situation occur, which led us to the Guardian Program.”

The South African government wants to confiscate approximately 300,000 guns.

A few weeks ago, the South African Constitutional Court ruled that those citizens who did not have gun licenses or whose licenses had expired should turn in their firearms.

Another important example of why it’s a bad idea to have the state make people get firearm licenses. As Helene Eloff writes for The Citizen:

The university released a statement Wednesday saying that Kaitlin Bennett, the recent KSU graduate whose graduation photo with her carrying an AR-10 went viral, must "cease and desist from advertising a planned rally because she has not registered the event and obtained approval as required by university policy."

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
As an individual, I believe, very strongly, that handguns should be banned and that there should be stringent, effective control of other firearms. However, as a judge, I know full well that the question of whether handguns can be sold is a political one, not an issue of products liability law, and that this is a matter for the legislatures, not the courts. The unconventional theories advanced in this case (and others) are totally without merit, a misuse of products liability laws. — Judge Buchmeyer, Patterson v. Gesellschaft, 1206 F.Supp. 1206, 1216 (N.D. Tex. 1985)
