"While it's easy these days to buy a gun that's designed specifically for home defense, it can be just as simple to turn a long gun or handgun that you inherited or bought for another purpose into a terrific home-defense tool. Customizing the gun doesn't have to be expensive or difficult, and in some cases the modifications don't even have to be permanent, allowing you to return the gun quickly to its original condition for its original purpose." ...
"The shotgun may very well be the most common home-defense firearm .... Once it's in the house, though, too many people figure it'll be fine 'as is' to defend their homes, and they forget all about it." ... |

"Strict enforcement of our local gun laws is critical in the fight against illegal guns. After undercover investigations revealed violations in sales practices at Woodhaven Rifle and Pistol Range, Inc., the gun dealer, Michael Spallone, today pled guilty to disorderly conduct and as a result will pay $1,000 in fines and restitution. In addition, his dealer’s license remains revoked by the NYPD. His guilty plea sends a strong message: any violation of the law that allows illegal guns to flow onto our streets will be vigorously pursued. If you break the law, you will pay the price. I thank Queens District Attorney Richard Brown ... for recognizing that rigid enforcement of gun laws can help prevent the tragic consequences of gun violence." -------
KABA Note: This is the gun dealer who initially refused to sell to Mayor Mike's sting squad. They came back the next day with proper paperwork, but with a serial number transposed, and badgered him to make the sale, which he did, after checking with the Suffolk County Police who said it was okay. Police officers also got some hands on training with their new rifles. They had a four hour familiarization course with the new Bushmaster X-M 15. The rifle is a semi-automatic civilian version of a military weapon. Officers shot off one hundred rounds to make sure they can operate the new weapon and hit targets. Officers say the old rifle didn't meet their safety standards. St. Joseph Police Department Armor Darryl Lehman said, "We had nothing but problems with it when we purchased it. It wasn't reliable it had malfunctions on the range jamming up not operating and any malfunctioning in policing is not acceptable." Officers receive weapons training every year. |
