Some Black Creek Conservancy Club members claim members of the Michigan Militia Black Creek Volunteers began infiltrating the club over the past three to five years.
A lawsuit was filed against the the club on Aug.18 in Isabella County, claiming since the infiltration of the club the defendants and their co-conspirators have held military-style events at the club, conducted and encouraged virtual nonstop live-firing on the club's grounds and held a "submachine gun" shooting event against the wishes of the membership, among other things.
Bruce Eggers, president of the Black creek Conservation Club said, "At this point I'm not going to say a lot. And it's their point of view and a lot of it is just fake. It's fake news. |

In its first decision in a school discipline case, the Georgia Supreme Court ruled zero tolerance policies on school fighting cannot deny students the right to assert they were defending themselves. The court said Georgia law gives students the legal right to argue self-defense as a justification.
Georgia Code states, “A person is justified in threatening or using force against another when…he or she reasonably believes that such threat or force is necessary to defend himself or herself or a third person against such other’s imminent use of unlawful force.”
In essence, the state’s highest court ruled that Georgia law on self-defense trumps school zero tolerance policies on fighting. |

A judge was correct to dismiss a manslaughter charge against a deputy based on Florida's "Stand Your Ground" self-defense law after he fatally shot a black man carrying a realistic-looking air rifle, an appeals court ruled Wednesday in a case headed for state Supreme Court review.
The 4th District Court of Appeal agreed that the self-defense law granting immunity from prosecution can apply not only to private citizens, but also to law enforcement officers. |

For too many men and women who have served our country in uniform, however, the status quo does not protect due process and Second Amendment rights. Under the current system, if a veteran or beneficiary requires assistance managing their Veterans Administration benefits, the VA deems them “mentally incompetent.” Their name is then added to the FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Checks System (NICS), even if they are not judged to be a danger to themselves or others. The burden is then placed on the veteran to appeal.
That is not how our system should work on behalf of our veterans. |

The day Louisiana hunters have been waiting for is at hand — dove season has arrived, meaning other seasons are not far behind.
Dove hunting opens Saturday and, despite muddy or flooded fields and bird populations scattered by Tropical Storm Harvey’s rains, thousands of adults and youngsters will take to fields from one end of the state to the other for a traditional Labor Day weekend hunt. This is often as much social outing as it is a hunting event.
Hunters may have to wear rubber knee boots instead of leather ones, or even tennis shoes, and they’ll look for the highest ground around, but they’ll be there. It is, in essence, a New Year’s Weekend for them. |

There has been a lot of talk recently about suppressors on guns, but we need to be equally concerned about suppressors on elected officials. Something is seriously wrong when legislators who pledged support of the Second Amendment suddenly grow silent when an anti-gun bill comes before them. And this is not just in California, folks—it is a problem everywhere. |

Ghost guns exist because of California’s strict gun laws
Interesting read on the ghost guns and black market ( “‘Ghost guns’ are easy to build, legal and completely untraceable,” Aug. 27). But why do they exist?
Ghost guns are an answer to California’s onerous and restrictive gun laws that penalize the average law-abiding citizen but do nothing to stop criminals from getting weapons. Our wonderful state legislators have created another avenue for criminals to obtain firearms and an even bigger black market. |

Marcina Cole with the group “Observers in the Courtroom” said support from the public kept Plummer from serving an even longer sentence.
“The public pressure and the media coming out here with the supporters, in conjunction with the attorney…you know, I think that it helped quite a bit,” Cole said.
Layla Hamdan was also among those supporters of Plummer who sayy it was not fair he could not use self-defense in his case.”And I’m just here supporting Juwan and his family ’cause I don’t want to see another young black man in jail,” she said.
Plummer could have been sentenced to 10 years in prison if he was convicted as initially charged. |
