... "How about if the doctors fill out our form and warrant they have reviewed applicable scientific literature pertaining to defensive gun use and beneficial results of private firearms ownership, or alternatively, are knowingly engaging in home/firearms safety counseling without certification ..."
"How about the advising physicians then disclose if they are engaged in an activity for which they are not certified, such as Firearms Safety Counseling, and if their medical malpractice insurance carrier will cover lawsuits resulting from neglect and lack of qualification?" ... |

"Mother Jones reporter Stephanie Mencimer apparently needs a Valium, a stiff drink or maybe a couple of hits of Colorado’s newest tax revenue bonanza. Something to calm her palpitations at the thought of peasants carrying guns in the District. The title of her piece Anyone With a Concealed Carry Permit Can Now Come Dangerously Close to the White House indicates just how overwrought Steph has become. She doesn’t even manage to get through the first paragraph before the lies start . . ." ... |

"Rowan Wilson had a Nevada state permit for medical marijuana. When she set out to buy a gun in 2011, she visited the shop of a licensed dealer who knew she had the permit and refused to sell her a firearm. The [ATF], it turns out, considers a medical marijuana permit holder to be an 'unlawful user of or addicted to' a 'controlled substance' and thus barred from legally purchasing guns."
"Wilson thought that policy violated her Second Amendment rights in addition to her Fifth Amendment rights to due process, since it declared her an unlawful user of drugs despite a lack of any evidence beyond the possession of a permit to use medical marijuana. ..." ... |

"While guns are off the welcome list at chains including Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc., ... Starbucks Corp. ... and Sonic Corp. ... a small but growing number of independent restaurateurs around the country are rolling out the red carpet."
"Eateries like Shiloh Brew & Chew in Maryville, Tenn., are posting signs saying guns are welcome. All Around Pizza and Deli in Virginia Beach, Va., is offering discounts for patrons who show up armed, while The Cajun Experience in Leesburg, Va., hosts 'Second Amendment Wednesdays.' At Shooters Grill in Rifle, Colo., the waitresses pack heat." ... |

"Gun-control advocates are learning the downside of getting their way. Recently, a federal judge struck down the District of Columbia's ban on the carrying of concealed handguns. Anti-gun forces have been losing in legislatures for a long time. Now they are finding that even where they win, they lose."
"Washington used to have the strictest gun laws in America. Besides the prohibition of concealed guns, all firearms had to be registered and handgun ownership was forbidden."
"The restrictions had no evident effect on crime: In the 1990s, the nation's capital was known as the murder capital. But they invited a legal challenge -- a historic one, as it happened. In 2008, the Supreme Court invalidated the city's handgun ban ..." ... |

"Michael Waldman, president of the Brennan Center for Justice at New York University School of Law and author of The Second Amendment: A Biography, is dipping his toes into the citizen journalism pool. Unfortunately his shorter polemic, 'What the Second Amendment intended' seems to be at least as riddled with falsehoods, undulating lies and outright fabrications as his book. Right out of the blocks, he’s off on the wrong foot: 'As school shootings erupt with sickening regularity…' . . ." ... |

"Can’t you just feel the MOM-entum? If you’ve been busy having a life, you probably didn’t know that Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America held a big Bloomberg-funded 'leadership bootcamp' and sleepover in Denver this weekend. That means that between the all the pillow fights, doing each other’s hair, making prank calls and playing light as a feather, stiff as a board, attendees spent most of their time lying to each other about how much influence the group really has. And, being the practiced PR flack that she is, Mayor Mike’s most telegenic employee, Shannon Watts, made sure to lie a lot to the local media, who dutifully spouted her spoon-fed falsehoods . . ." ... |

"Wardens at Lee Correctional Institution in Bishopsville, South Carolina, were taken aback a few weeks ago when they conducted a routine sweep of the prison grounds. They discovered quantities of marijuana, cigarettes and cellphones scattered among the bushes in the no man’s land that surrounds the maximum-security institution."
"The guards were even more astonished to find in the middle of the stash of contraband a small, lightweight object, with propellers attached. Closer inspection revealed the item to be an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), better known as a drone, whose operators had evidently made an audacious attempt to breach the prison walls that had come unstuck when it crash-landed." ... |

... "If you’ve been around the liberty movement for more than a few weeks, then you’ve heard the false dilemma wrapped in a question. Let me remind you what one man can do, and what a few men have done many times in our history. You and I are here to demand moral behavior when the government fails. Our government fails much more often than you think."
"True, there was only one Lexington and Concord in the American Revolution. We won’t see that again. We forget there was also the battle to Gonzales in the Texas revolt. Events like those are few and far between. Let me remind you of the other times honest men saved society when the government fled in fear or political cowardice." ... |

"Insertion of the terms 'unalienable' and 'strict scrutiny' to the Missouri Constitution’s section regarding weapons rights are what supporters of Amendment 5 point to as critical, while opponents call them mistakes that would hinder the state’s ability to deal with gun crimes."
"Amendment 5 will be one of five constitutional changes presented to voters on the Aug. 5 ballot. While both the U.S. Constitution and Missouri Constitution guaranteed the right to bear arms, the amendment would extend those rights to ammunition and accessories 'typical to the normal function of such arms.' It would also remove language that said those rights did not justify wearing concealed weapons." ... |

"Attorney General Luther Strange Wednesday appeared to step back from comments made earlier this week that suggested he would support legislation to ban the open carry of firearms at polling places."
"Earlier this month, Strange's office issued an opinion that said communities could not ban individuals from openly carrying firearms from polling places, after a request from the Chambers County Commission. The opinion, citing a 2013 law that greatly expanded open carry in the state, said polling places were not on a list of areas where individuals were specifically banned from openly carrying firearms. However, it noted that some areas where people vote, such as courthouses, fall under that ban." ... |

"After almost two decades of renewing his permit to carry a concealed handgun without incident, Huntsville resident William Braselton accidentally let it expire last year and got a shock when he went to get another one."
"The Madison County Sheriff's Office, after running a criminal background check, uncovered an old charge in Florida and denied Braselton a license."
"Had it occurred prior to Aug. 1, 2013, Braselton would have had no recourse. Sheriffs had the final word about pistol permits under the law. But a controversial law narrowing sheriffs' discretion took effect in August last year, and Braselton used it to become one of just a few Alabamians to successfully overturn a rejected application in court." ... |
