The Seattle-based Alliance for Gun Responsibility, a billionaire-backed gun prohibition lobbying group, sent out an email blast with a link to its website revealing the names of 28 candidates being endorsed for this year’s local election primaries.

The past week’s string of horrific mass shootings already have triggered a predictable set of reactions from across the political spectrum—but especially among Republicans. GOP leaders typically frame the question of gun violence as an outgrowth of personal or cultural pathologies—mental health, the decline of family values, and video game addiction, among other maladies. Focusing the debate on these issues conveniently deflects attention from any government efforts to effectively regulate access to guns, which Republican politicians and the conservative donor class regard as both counterproductive and contrary to the original understanding of the Second Amendment.

In 2016, I began a campaign to run for the NRA Board of Directors by petition of the members. The idea to run for the Board started with a conversation between myself and two Board Members at the Great American Outdoor Show in Harrisburg that February. Those two Board Members were amongst those who recently resigned. After many phone calls, questions, and a lot of thought, I decided the pursue a seat, in the hopes that I would be able to lend some new ideas and a different take on issues of the Organization.

In 2004, the Hornady Manufacturing Company introduced the .17 Hornady Mach 2 (.17 HM2) using a .22 LR case that had been extended and necked down. This cartridge should not be mistaken for the Hornady .17 HMR, which is based on the case of a .22 Magnum. The .17 HM2 is designed to take varmint at 100 yards or more, and performs the task admirably. It develops a similar amount of energy as the .22 LR in foot pounds, but it travels at a higher velocity – resulting in a flatter bullet trajectory.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
The right of the citizens to keep and bear arms has justly been considered, as the palladium of the liberties of a republic; since it offers a strong moral check against the usurpation and arbitrary power of rulers; and will generally, even if these are successful in the first instance, enable the people to resist and triumph over them. — Joseph Story, Commentaries on the Constitution of the United States; With a Preliminary Review of the Constitutional History of the Colonies and States before the Adoption of the Constitution [Boston, 1833].
