"We assert that it is sometimes the obligation of American citizens to question authority. That can also apply to the bodies that represent citizens."

"The greatest value in discussing the Patriot Act, however, is the exercise itself: As Americans, we should be scrutinizing our laws and subjecting them to the defining light of our principles. That is how changes have come about that guaranteed rights to women, minorities, workers, children, immigrants and others."

"However, the victory may be short lived because the Bush Administration is applying pressure on Senate leadership to keep the provisions intact. As a result, the Senate may fail to support the amendments in its version of the bill, voiding the House action."

"Anti-terror and other regulations have made them an endangered business species, creating more work and less money for the businesses."

"That's not good."

"Just ask Jeff Davis, who runs his family's 60-year-old pawnshop chain in Brooklyn and Queens. In the past when people had something they wanted to get rid of, they went to the pawnbrokers, who have to report every transaction to police."

"Thomas Jefferson’s words 'All men are created equal' have been turned from the ideal of equality under law to equality of results, a very different – and pernicious – thing. By its very nature, Christianity is exclusionary, something that the modern equality police cannot tolerate and will always try to destroy. (In fact, Christianity also promotes a doctrine of equality, St. Paul writing that those who are Christians are equal in the sight of God. He was not, however, endorsing a doctrine of egalitarianism, despite what religious leftists claim.)"

"KEN: The assault weapons ban was bad legislation when it was enacted and no law deserves a quicker death than this fragmented, disjointed, and misguided attempt to ban firearms. This law deals with threaded barrels, pistol grips, and folding stocks. These features can make a firearm look real scary. This law has little to do with the power, strength, or accuracy of a firearm, and more to do with how mean they look." ...

"JAMES: Legislators did pick 'mean' looking firearms for a reason - they are generally high powered and able to spray a large number of bullets in a general area as a means to maximize their lethal effects. In your statement you are partially correct about what the assault weapons ban does not permit, but you should have also included bans on guns with clips of 10 or more rounds, threaded barrels that can support flash suppressers and grenade launchers, bayonet mounts, and specific weapons such as Kalashnikovs, Uzis, Ar70s, AR15s, and others." ...
