“If you’re sincere in wanting to get to the bottom of the gunwalking scandal then you’ll need to start at the beginning and that is me and Operation Wide Receiver,” Detty advised Jones. “Throughout my time as a CI, I kept meticulous notes--some 600 pages worth. In fact, it was my journal that raised the ire of SAC Newell. Once he learned of my documentation he ordered the field agents not to accept any new cases from me. He knew immediately that my records, irrefutable and unimpeachable, would prove troublesome for him at some point in the future.” |

"The website is cool. It’s easy to navigate and explore. It has a ton of readily-accessible, logically-organized and presented information. You can learn about national and state transport and carry laws, or individual state statutes. You can drill down through an interactive map, which makes understanding reciprocity easy. And they even offer a blog, where more detailed information can be shared and discussed."
"Best of all is the price, because you’ll notice the link gives full site access." |

"That was fun, wasn't it?" I asked mom as we left the gun shop.
"Yeah, I felt powerful!"
"But remember, your power is in the Lord," I said, teasing.
"Oh yeah, I'ma call on him to help me pull that trigger."

The shooting at the Sikh Temple in Oak Creek about 10:15 a.m. Sunday that left at least seven people dead, including the shooter, and three people injured is being treated as a domestic terrorist incident, Oak Creek Police Chief John Edwards said.
Oak Creek police officers who responded to a 911 call about the shooting were helping a victim when the shooter ambushed one of the officers, shooting the officer multiple times.
A second Oak Creek officer returned fire, killing the shooter, Edwards said.
------------------------------ Submitter's note: What was it stopped the shooter?
A man with a gun. It's not important he was a LEO; it was that he was armed that matters because it's the only effective counter to active shooters. |

He was taking photographs of a brewing street fight at McClellan Street and Sheridan Avenue in the Concourse neighborhood. Mr. Stolarik was taking photographs of the arrest of a teenage girl about 10:30 p.m., when a police officer instructed him to stop doing so. Mr. Stolarik said he identified himself as a journalist for The Times and continued taking pictures. |

Guns are an American pastime. A way to feed a family. A way to protect a family. A way of life. Those are some of the words gun owners use to describe their relationship with firearms and the powerful emotions that stir up when they talk about them. In the days after a gunman killed a dozen theater-goers in Aurora, Colorado, talk turned to gun ownership, access and restrictions, as it often does after mass shootings. CNN iReport went to the firearms owners and asked for their perspective. We received more than 400 iReports from gun owners. The stories of gun ownership in America and the feelings behind it are diverse and not so easily explained. Here are five things they want the world to know: ... |

With these casualty figures, one would think that gun-control laws would be a much higher national priority in the US than the far more loudly hyped fight against terrorism. After all, ever since the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, left roughly 3,000 people dead, gun violence has killed almost 140,000 and injured more than two million.
But, when one looks more closely at why the US is so addicted to this unique kind of violence, the obvious is not so obvious. Why are gun-control laws so hard to pass? |

All states – whether democratic, authoritarian or outright totalitarian — are all built on the principle of a monopoly of violence. That’s how the system works. It’s called the rule of law. You or I can’t go out firing when we feel like it. The state is stronger than the combined might of anybody that might challenge it internally.

No one needs large-capacity ammunition magazines for self-defense or hunting. We should limit the size of magazines.
Similarly, one should not be able to purchase large quantities of ammunition. What is a large amount is debatable, but 6,000 rounds would certainly be too much.
The kind of armor worn by the shooter has no useful purpose for civilians. Such armor only provides a sense of invulnerability and false courage to those who intend to go on a shooting rampage. |

Many people living in this part of the world must think the United States is a far away land inhabited by wonderful but hard-to-understand people with mindsets that are a mirror image of theirs.
This notion has been further reinforced by the latest gun control debate, driven to maddening frenzy by the Aurora (Colorado) shooting in which a single gunman shot dead 12 people and wounded 58 in a packed theater. I guess that has all of us wondering what's there to debate. Most of us would expect that this carnage, and those before it, should be enough to tilt public opinion overwhelmingly toward stricter control on the ownership and sale of firearms. |

The July 20 Aurora, Colo., theater massacre hit former U.S. Navy Seal sniper instructor Brandon Webb particularly hard.
So hard, in fact, that he blogged about it, not the shootings or the victims but about his concern that most peace-loving, passive Americans have no response plan in place in a crisis.
Not every situation one faces will be as dire as the one in Colorado, he acknowledged.
But Webb noted that the shooter in that scenario was “severely weighted down with armor and his helmet would have also limited his vision.” |

As quaint as it sounds, lawmakers should also consider returning to the traditional notion that concealed weapons are dishonorable. If people want to assert their right to carry a gun, fine. Give them permits to carry lethal weapons. But require them to strap on a holster and carry openly, because the public should have the right to know who’s going armed. |

If you were on George Zimmerman's defense team, wouldn't you want to stay away from people who celebrate gun possession at least until after your client's trial given the fact that Zimmerman is regarded by many people as trigger-happy, reckless, and remorseless?
On the other hand, maybe you do want to associate with gun fanatics because Zimmerman is trigger-happy, reckless, and remorseless? Zimmerman's lawyer Mark O'Mara is slated to speak at a Gun Rights conference in Orlando, FL., according to an invitation from the organizers. The conference comes seven months after the murder of Trayvon Martin and two months after the Aurora, CO., massacre. |

Connolly said the Champaign County group learned from others' mistakes when they organized Saturday's event. He pointed at an anecdote from a St. Louis-area gun buyback, for which organizers promised $50 cash per gun — so a gun dealer brought a box of 17 broken guns, Connolly said.
Saturday's event had a two-gift-card limit, and the guns had to be functional. The event also was limited to Champaign County residents, although police would have been happy to take more than two broken guns for free and from anyone. |

No one is trying to take those guns away from you. Previously, there was a law outlawing these automatic rifles, but it was allowed to expire. That law needs to be reinstated. It won’t keep nuts from killing innocent people, but it may reduce the amount of people they can kill at one time.
This nut in Colorado was able to buy all these guns and all this ammo without any kind of background check.
Ed.: No, he passed the background checks, and his rifle wasn't automatic. |
